Hiring Scandal? (UPDATED - no scandal)
Can anyone verify if this is true?
- 20 Year OLD RECRUIT IS CURRENTLY IN THE ACADEMY ?!?!
The CPD has only hired 60 recruits this year as of 16 April 2010. ALL of the recruits are at least 25 years old since it has been several years since the last entrance exam.
HOWEVER, there is one male recruit; J.P. who was only 20 YEARS OLD on 16 April when he started his first day!!!
He is now 21.
He would have been 17 when the last exam was given – WAY too young!!!!!
What gives???
Does anyone have the rundown?
Perhaps POULOS Construction has something to do with it???

UPDATE: We've been contacted by a number of people, inside and outside of the Department, who relate this is a clerical error and the recruit in question is actually 25 with relatives on the job. They also aren't related to the construction company magnates, which is too bad since we're looking for a decent contractor at the moment.

Looks like shanks is at it again !! Only the best for daley friends & family.
Sound kinda like what happened at CFD a few years back. 2 people, one who didnt even take the test, the other failed, were hired, completed the academy, went out to the field, and few months later.....woops!
Both still have jobs. One is a SOS, the other goes to a certain "church"
At this point any warm body will do. Send in the teenagers!

I think we all need to take the ethics test again. There is a major "chicago way" corruption favors scandal here. Too bad the media is scared of Daley to look into this.

I have said for years the biggest problem on the CPD is employee selection. The bosses come and go. Problems with the CPD hierarchy exist - no question. However, once a new employee walks through the doors of 1300 W. Jackson, they are golden. How does the CPD motivate employees who can not read, write or speak English. The employees I am speaking about DO NOT understand the culture.
This is bullshit. I have been wiating to test for the CHicago Police Department since November of 2006. I could not attend that test because I was 3 credits shy of the required 60. And now they let some kid slip by? How the hell did this happen?
I also wanted to say thank you SCC for telling it like it is. I love the city of Chicago but hate the damned politics. And stay safe.
Have a happy fourth. Just tell the gangbangers to knock it off so we can all be safe, J-Fled said that works.

If you don't have the required credits and are called to start as long as you show proof that you are going to school while in the academy they allow you to continue at least thats how the "RYAN" boys did it. Unless it depends on your lastname in most cases your SOL...
Are they saying it's okay to be 20 as long as you turn 21 prior to graduting for the academy? If this is the case, I would have been able to start sooner then when I did.

Good article in New York Times about how Illinois is now the poster state for fiscal disasters. Illinois is now the in the worst financial shape of any state, and getting worse daily. Illinois is now not paying bills for essential services.
And they are not cutting spending or raising taxes to begin to address the $12 billion deficit.
Hold on to your hats, this ride is going to get rough I fear, worse before it gets better. Maybe Obama will bail out Illinois, his home state, former Illinois senator and all.

Who is the copper in 20th on midnights writing all these bullshit tickets . 2-3 inches over the yellow by hydrant - ticket , 2-3 inches over a sign- ticket,too close to a driveway , crosswalk or intersection- ticket . I have been noticing this the past several mornings , and now this morn I had one for blocking a driveway (which I wasn't and I will contest as people having been parking in that spot for at least 10 years since the NEW building was built on that location & the driveway is a remnant from the last building) , Thats a $150 ticket which I'll have to pay if I lose the appeal (which is highly likely)
Unfortunately this is completely UNTRUE. My little bro is 25 years old with 3 years experience on a suburban department (I'm on with 5 years- married last name though) and if we had ANY affiliation with the construction company, I don't think we'd be the police! Seriously, who starts this shit? And he thought he was getting AWAY from small town drama...

Tracy Ladner, was laughing about the test saying that it doesn't apply, we only use it if we want. "we're not bound by the test." She believes she can do what she wants.

I'm in the academy right now and we have 59 recruits. We are broken down into two groups. I can say no one in my group is under 25, but the other group I have not one single clue. so, I'm will be looking into this because it's not fair to others waiting to get in to the academy and this joker just by-passed the testing process that took everyone years to get through.
And I am sitting here patiently at the age of 23 turning 24, waiting to test for Chicago....

But this is a little different. If this is true the kid either never took the test, or lied to take the test. Both of these situation should get him and someone else fired.
On the CFD both of them were already on the job as paramedics and were just crossing-over to become FF. They didn't have to go thru the hiring process again. But you are right that the one FAILED the test(certain church member)& the other NEVER even took it(married in the right family). Yes both are still on the CFD but have both been sent back to the Ambo and lost their dual-certification pay. They both also served susspension.Funny thing about this is that they never did anything to the people in personnel who made the call to offer the job to them. Probably didn't want to expose the BRASS that was involved.

Why were you not able to take the test? You don't need the 60 hours to sit for the test. You need them hours to be hired. You can take the test while still going to school or in the military. That is the way I understand it.
They didn't have any of those requirments when I took the test. back in the mid 80's
what about a certain state rep. T.M. who's sister was admitted in academy without any college and then went out and messed it up hanging with bangers. never heard anything about that in the media or anywhere else

OK my RDO is cancled. My RDO happens to be a holiday. OK so I get 20 hours comp time and 16 hours pay. 36 * 35 = a 1260 dollar day before taxes. 1260 * 13 = 16,380 dollars, hey do me a favor hit them all.

Read your contract, it says that if your RDO is cnacelled on a Holiday you have the following option eith 24 hours of compt time or 20 hours of compt time and 4 hours pay, that is why the city could give two shits about 4 july. and it will be like this every 4th of July from here on in, you can bet all days off cancelled because it onyl cost them time or 4 hrs each officer.

Well Asshat, we labeled it a rumor. Firstly, by asking if it was true, which usually means we don't have all the info. Secondly, in the tag at the bottom of the post which must have escaped your eagle-eyes.
Then, if you read the comments, which you obviously didn't, you'd find that the recruit's sister and father both verify his age. His sister then found out that the data entry page of his Personnel Record lists his wrong birthday by 5 years!
So the data entry error actually verified a wrong rumor. How is that our fault?

When I took the test they asked if I had anyone of Chinese ancestry in my family. I thought that a curious question. Why would they care if I had a Chinaman in my family?

Huh? Are you serious? She ran out of bureau's to destroy and was told that she was on her way out! Most of all, the "D" unit. That division runs it self as does all of the other divisions and she thought that she could make a difference ? She was an idiot as a Sgt. in 014 and didn't get better with age.
