Here We Go

  • A man was stabbed and firefighters put out a small blaze in an electrical transformer tonight near the Taste of Chicago as the festival was letting out.

The unidentified man was stabbed in the back on State Street near Jackson Boulevard a little after 9 p.m., police said at the scene.

He was taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to fire officials. Large crowds exiting the Taste had blocked access to the ambulance for a time.

You have to love how the Tribune photographers and editors only post pictures of cops in riot gear, rather than the cause of all the panicky tourists and citizens being ushered out of the Loop en masse. Here's a hint - it wasn't cops stabbing anyone.

Warm weather and clear skies coming this weekend.

The entire downtown area was completely out of control. A large part of the problem was the decision making by car 47. He decides to stop people from entering at approximately 2015hrs then decides it would be a good idea to shut down the entire taste at that time. Instead of allowing the mass of people inside to remain while giving those being turned away time to leave he pushes them all into downtown at one time. There were problems from Wacker to Roosevelt and from Michigan to Wells. Had they just slowly pushed people out of the Taste after the scheduled closing time things would have run much smoother. And the DUMBEST move of all......I'm not sure exactly what it is inside of the taste but there is an area they named "the chute". Genius idea to call something "the chute" when it's difficult as it is to hear one another on the radios down there. Put that one under "un-fucking believable".

What a joke. First a bunch of heavy hitting females knock Keating off his segway and he is injured. Then the jagoff's block the street dancing, fighting, ranting and raving so the ambulance can't get there. After that someone is stabbed and CFD is first to get there because CPD is dealing with all the assholes. Later a call of an agg batt south on State st looking for a M1 in a black olds. Flash comes out later and the agg batt reveales the victim was shot. Then a 10-1 on Michigan where an officer is fighting with a man with a gun in the redline station. Not to mention all the other chaos going on. J-Fled fucked up. Definately needed more police presence for tonight (Thursday) of all nights with the rap concert and all. You heard the radio all day. Excessively more radio traffic than the previous days and yet MSF, TRU, and the other units called in after they decide to close the taste. 4200, 4299, 100 did a great job with the resources they had at the moment. Not their faults the deputies and sup didn't give them enough manpower.

I'm not a PO but I LOVE this blog and all of you guys and gals that lay it on the line for us daily! I grew up in Chatham when people actually cared about the neighborhood and my younger sister was friends with the late Officer Wortham growing up. All of that being said, I left Chicago 5 years ago because my wife and I saw all of this coming and refused to raise our kids on the South Side. It saddens me to see what's happened to my town. I told all my friends a couple of months that they would be FOOLS to go anywhere near Taste this year- looks like I was right. Godspeed to you guys and please be careful this weekend.

Keating was out of his league and way over his head. Our old administration wasn't perfect, but they would of had a plan in place if we had to close the Taste. The officer's assigned would have known where to go and what to do before anything occuerred. Keating was reacting after the incidents happened. The officer's were running all over the place. Funny thing is, I don't think King Keating will listen to, or take any input for any of his subordinate officer's working for him. It is him and only him in control.

I saw two fights after the taste, 10-15males, jumping 2 or 3 at Michigan and 8th, then Wabash and 8th not 3 to 4 mins later. No police on scene. Never arrived. Not enough police out side taste. Back in the day, we would keep the wagons full, with the doors open so everyone could see. Everyone knew not to mess around or you would be arrested. I think i saw 1 wagon in the Taste. I saw Gang photo's, with flashing gangs signs. No one said a word. Wow! The Mary Jane was being smoked inside and out openly. I thought Weiss said something about plain clothes in the crowd. Hire more officers.

"Police News Affairs officers", how many are there? 10 or so plus a supervisory staff and civilians? Were they donning riot gear on the front line to get the stories to the press? Does it take a po to say, " detectives are investigating". Mild mannered house reporters, which by the way, heard wimp FLED on the radio news, he sounds alot like Jimmy Olson or Mr. Rogers.
Lots of good stories at public events, sparlklers, paddle boats, picnics and noodle salad. Just none here.

Ernie Brown met with the Police Group this morning. They have come up with a new crime fighting strategy which will be implemented this weekend.

In co-ordination with OEMC, the air raid sirens will be turned on every Friday and Saturday night. They have employed members of Steven Spielberg's Dreamworks Company to use giant fans on the South and Westside to simulate tornadoes. This will force the bad guys to go inside for cover. All killings after that will be "weather related". BRILLIANT!!!

It seems to be a problem with young thugs (15 to 22), all dressed in white (dirty) shirts and black jeans. makes it very confusing for officers to find the perpetrators!!!!!!!!! officers JUST WATCH YOUR BACKS, WATCH OUT FOR THE CAMERAS, AND STAY SAFE.

Of course Whites commit crimes, but nowhere near the amount by this one particular group. You hear it all the time, if 45 black CPS students are shot and killed each year, they always respond wtih Columbine. Problem is the 45 CPS killed each year were probably killed by 45 DIFFERENT OFFENDERS in 45 DIFFERENT SHOOTINGS.

As the mobs of savages were traveling down Jackson, the residents of some of buildings had a look of sheer terror on their faces as they were trying to drive into their parking garages. It was like it was the Alamo and they knew they had to get to their stronghold to escape the savages!!! I hope every Alderman/Daley's office gets swamped with calls from some of these influential people who won't settle for a bullshit answer.

Who in the hell at Special Events schedules a rap concert at the Taste. Talk about creating a magnet for the locals thugs and POS. It is like Daley and his team of nitwits want to throw gasoline on already out of control fire. Does anybody on his crew have any common sense? Why didn't J-Fled tell all the low lifes to knock it off?

Can't wait till Tuesday when Short Shanks starts sputtering at the news conference that the violence and crimes were nowhere near the Taste and it was only a few isolated incidents.

Maybe J-Fled should have been out there trying to drag some of the victims indoors so not to negatively impact his outdoor crime stats numbers. I recommend the City should just move the Taste to Garfield Park and let the honor students just have at it with each other.

Ask your timekeeper for a definition, I don't know if this means that only 4 hours can be taken in pay or the whole thing.

11.2C. Employees whose regular day off coincides with an established holiday, and who are required to work a regular tour of duty (eight hours) on that holiday, will be credited with twenty (20) hours of compensatory time and four (4) hours of compensatory time or additional pay, as the officer elects.

I was in a restaurant in downtown this afternoon with my partner, a family from the west or south side was also there. A commotion started when momma threw a glass of water at her 12 year old daughter and issued some choice parenting directives, like "now say something else!

The tourists in the next booth had obviously never seen a family of democrats like this behave in their natural manner. They had this horrified look on their faces and got up and left post haste. No battery on a child followed the water so my partner and I paid no mind.

Typical and normal behavior we've all seen a million times. Thankfully there was not a string of "mutha fuckers" followed by domestic battery. Squeamish tourists got a story to bring home without being shot or stabbed.

I just wanted to say thanks to the officers for working the taste and for keeping us safe.

I also wanted to offer this bit of advice to you guys. Just tell the bangers to KNOCK IT OFF! That worked back in the day and should work now, right?

God Bless the CPD and Nobody else.

I know when you started you already had 20 years on the job but give the recruits a break. They aren't even out of the academy yet. They've not done any cycles with an FTO or anything else for that matter. Maybe they were looking to you for some leadership. Maybe they just did what they saw you doing.

Please help me understand--because I do think most cops are doing the best they can and Taste is a mess. Why the comments about Obama and thugs at the Taste? Were there similar comments about Bush in 2008 when somebody was shot in the Loop after Taste? Does anybody really think Obama is supportive of gangbangers?

Yes we do. His position on LEO's is clear based upon his friendship and support of a cop-killer and by his reference to the police as 'stupid' upon hearing that another pal had a run in with the law. Regardless if there are facts that he overtly supports street gangsters, his messages have been sent to us and the rest of the world LOUDLY and CLEARLY: when taking sides, it certainly isn't ours.

Pay attention, please.

He is a friend and supporter to the members of SDS, FALN, BLACK PANTHERS and as Times or Trib reported few years ago and I'm leaning more towards the Times for this comment 80 percent of the Democratic Party in Cook Coounty is involved with street gangs.

Was supposed to be RDO the next two, just got the call all RDO's canceled across the board, dick's, units, crime lab, etc... As Sunday is double time then for the canceled RDO holiday how much is this cluster fuck going to cost?

7/02/2010 02:12:00 PM

Sorry. The holiday is Monday.

7/02/2010 10:26:00 PM

Not for everyone, the FOP calendar lists the 4th as the holiday. Ask the timekeeper.

7/02/2010 11:45:00 PM

The holiday for FOP members is on Sunday, 4 July 2010.

Do what Milwaukee does- Charge $10 to get into a feast, and Chicago would not have the problems.

7/02/2010 02:36:00 AM

But the aldermen, CHA board members and selected reverends, etc. would get scores of free tickets to distribute as they see fit......

Just had 4th cancelled for fireworks got excited that going to be paid double time and a half but was then informed per contract that can only get comp time, looked into it and yes it's in there sect 11.2

7/02/2010 10:27:00 PM

Ask your timekeeper for a definition, I don't know if this means that only 4 hours can be taken in pay or the whole thing.

11.2C. Employees whose regular day off coincides with an established holiday, and who are required to work a regular tour of duty (eight hours) on that holiday, will be credited with twenty (20) hours of compensatory time and four (4) hours of compensatory time or additional pay, as the officer elects.

7/02/2010 11:43:00 PM

********************

Dont forget that this time frame was based on the 6 on, 2 off schedule, so add in the increments for the 4 on, 2 off also for the OT.

last sunday's pride parade had about 450,000 people. about 50,000 drunk out of their minds.....however, no stabbings, no shootings, no police riots. what a difference a "crowd" can make. maybe we should send some drag-queens to the taste to keep the ghetto thugs out!!! I can just see a 6-footer drag-queen slapping the shit out of an honor student thug!!!and then she might snap her fingers too!

2 wounded in attack in Gresham

July 2, 2010

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE

At least one attacker opened fire on a man and a woman sitting inside a parked van, striking the woman in the head and the man in the hip early Friday in the Gresham community on the South Side.

7/02/2010 10:11:00 AM
===================================
Shots fired on 84th Paulina. 15 shots fired into van. 1 person shot in hip jumped from van. Female shot in arm.hand & 2xs in head and was still alive. Van drives her to FH on 81 Ashland. Now they are bringing patients to the FH making it even easier for the Medics to help. Woman has very large sum of money on herself. Sounds like she stole someones money and they came to get it from her. Pretty good shooter as 11 of the bullets entered windshield and would have hit her center mass if she was standing still.

To all my younger brothers and sisters on the job.
While I'll be safe in beautiful Galena enjoying my furlough, my thoughts and prayers will truly be with you this weekend.
Remember, the ONLY thing that matters is getting home safe to your families!
FUCK DALEY, WEIS, AND EVERY OTHER INCOMPETENT, USELESS P.O.S. UNDERLING OF THEIRS!

BE SAFE OFFICERS!
Happy 4th from a brother who'll be thinking of you all.

They also do not work Operation Protect Youth as every other inside person does. Not all of us were dog asses. I was put back on the street to add to the P.O. street body count. I have no problem doing what I was hired to do, be the fucking police! Neither does the Policy Group report to OPY. I have a copy of the TO/FROM from the last session that excused everyone! Yes, his signature is on it!

And to the big bad cop who criticized the recruits, FU. I have 16 years on and I would tell them all to hold back in this political climate. They are on probation now for 1 1/2 yrs and risk firing, no union coverage like you have. What did you do pus when you were a ppo, Ill bet not a damn thing, loser!
I had real bosses that looked out for us, now there is no one and you would be the first to dime them out over your ass. Just do YOUR job, or can't you?

Why dont you get out of Lincoln park and take a walk around the south side, or are you afraid to face reality?
You dont think (cops) you mean the police are not doing the best they can, thats the problem, you are thinking!! The world is wonderful, Dorothy, now go take toto for a walk down the yellow brick road.
