Softball question. Canned answers. Pretty much a whitewash of J-Fled's tenure here.
So far, we have the Sun Times Editorial Board, Skippy Jacobson and now Bob Sirott all in the J-Fled Cheering Section. And Mope-rah Mitchell was one of the first media members calling for J-Fled's resignation a few years back.

I watched it with the wife. She told me she felt sorry for the guy. I replied by telling her about what happened to Cozzi and Airhart R.I.P. She then told me " fuck him then".
He showed his true colors how he felt about patrol. All he cares is about having units manned to the brim so he could look good in the number of homicides he has prevented. Now aren't you glad you didn't march. Jfled is pissing on your head and telling you it's raining again.
sirott is a knucklehead. IM STILL WAITING for the results of this morale survey. someone in the media needs to grow balls and question all this shit that jody is feeding the media and public. Give me the spotlight and i will gladly do it. I would love a simple debate between Jody and Lt. Andrews or any other member of cpd that has the facts to back up the truth or a representive. what have i really got to lose? im moving away from this d-bag sooner or later. knowing my luck he will end up wherever i go. The real sad part is how many idiots watched this interview and sat back truly believeing it, more than half ill say that
Fact is, Bob Sirott is no friend to the Police either. Had a talk with him quite a few years ago, and he thinks we're all a bunch of 'overpaid, lazy hacks.' So his interview isn't surprising at all.
Weis, you tell lies because you are afraid... afraid of what we don't know, afraid of what others will think, afraid of what will be found out about you. afraid that you failed. But every time you tell a lie, the thing that you fear grows stronger. The truth will come out eventually, and when it goes your creditbility will be gone, your mark on history will be nothing but a joke. People will tell negative stories about what it was like working under someone like you, you will be remembered in a more negative way than any former\future corrupt member of this department would be. Leave while you can still save just a little face. You can tell everyone else lies but when it comes down to it you cant lie to yourself, you will look back on your life and no matter how hard you try to tell yourself you did a good job, you didnt, you failed. you failed yourself, you failed a city, You failed its citizens, its police, its mayor. You failed Jody, the only way to learn from your failure is to leave. Be a man, be an adult, move on.
Let this be a lesson to anyone hiring someone for any reason other than their "Qualifications and experience," it dosnt work, especially when it comes to policing. Although this job is largely "learn as you go" (the academy teaches dont get me wrong but the streets are different than the classroom.) every officer started somewhere and "learned".... you did not. It was handed to you, you gave it a shot and you failed. If you ever do read this, sit down and say... "I failed" Also remember, life isnt over. theres plenty of other oppertunity out there for you, your a grown man (who runs from danger, yes i know) you will find something.
I can never get into any of the talk shows he gets on to ask about the Joe Airhart incident and what was his role. He was head guy here then right?

What a half-assed interview...
1) Discussing weight training. Does Jody really need to discuss kettle bell training/Cardio?
And did you hear Sirott shining the Supt on about 'how much can you bench? 250?' Hey Bob, how's J'Fled's ass tasting right now?
2) 'Morale isn't as bad as it's being said.' So where is the Morale Survey? Why hasn't it been released? Did Mr. Sirott forget to ask about that?
3) I can't believe J-Fled mentioned Bill Bratton's name in this interview. Weis is trying to compare himself to Bratton? Is he serious? And did you hear (from J-Fled's own lips) about 'how popular I am' as I walk down the street? Does he really believe the citizens who shout out to him are shouting out COMPLIMENTS? Obviously you don't spend too much time 'walking around' with your adoring public in Area 2, Jody.
3) Discussing his career as a 'bomb tech' in the army? What in the hell does that have to do with his lack of leadership today in the 2nd largest PD in the country today? And on that topic, has WEISel ever gone out to diffuse a suspected bomb with our own bomb techs? I didn't think so either!
4) I've seen Bob Sirott do some decent interviews in his stint with 'Chicago Tonight.' This one clearly wasn't his best. Major favors have been granted to give J-Fled a fresh slew of interviews to preserve whatever he thinks is left of his reputation.
5) WOW! J-Fled wanted to be a dentist in college. Funny...if you look at his eyes, you'd assume he wanted to be an Ophthmalogist. or a plastic surgeon.
6) Why didn't Sirott ask Weis about decisons made with regard to the Joe Airhart incident many years ago? Jody was the agent in charge.
7) Sirott actually told Jody that 'you're handling this job pretty well.' Really Bob?

8) I can't believe this interview went as long as it did. Like I said before, somebody pulled some serious strings to set this BS session up. But Sirott does ask Weis about manpower in the final segment of this interview. This was about the most intelligent question I heard during the entire interview. Weis discussed SOS, and talks about re-initiating SOS
(now referred to as MSF). He claims they've brought down murders, which we all know is BS, but Sirott allows Weis to make this claim without any challenges to it. Weis says 'we don't need more police officers.' I guess he's justifying the new crystal ball unit, although he doesn't mention it by name. No questions concerning the drivers promoted meritoriously to Sgt., but Sirott DOES ask Weis if he ever drives himself. Dumb question. Weis discusses the burden of driving alone to a situation/location, and then preparing for 'on-camera interviews. And Sirott asks Weis about what his favorite cop show is. What deep, penetrating questions Sirott has! Weis wants a new range (and we know it ain't gonna happen if he couldn't make it happen up to now). Weis has no idea what he wants to do when he leaves, except to 'decompress' with his wife (& cats). Sirott closes out the interview by expressing his hope that 'whatever's going on with you and the union' can be worked out.
I almost thought I was watching a male version of "Martha Stewart."

In video 1:"Last year we trained 36,000 police officers" about 2:15 mins in the interview. Didn't know we had a surplus of cops. And 3:15min He says the cops cowered for cover behind a dashboard in that shooting in 005. Just because he "gott to run" doesn't mean that everyone else on the department runs and hides. I would say those officers were using time, distance, and shielding. I'm sure it wasn't cowardice.

How do you (J-Fled) expect to get POs to know you if you won't let them even approach you. Why you don't you try being more approachable? Another thing you could have done is when you came here you could have approached POs.

Why does it even matter all he is doing is playing out the string? Cozzi is not getting out of prison, Weis is still cashing a check for now. He will leave in 6 months have changed absolutely nothing and having lowered morale.

You hit the nail on the head again, SCC. By far probably the worst "let's make him appear to be a regular guy" interviews I've ever seen...and completely beneath Bob Sirott too. Easily his worst interview ever.
He didn't even begin to ask any mildly serious questions until the last segment of the interview, and even then, tepid questions, and equally tepid responses.
Special message to Weis: MAYBE if you began working on your image as a decent sort of fellow say, a year ago, it might have caught on with some Chicagoans(or the mainstream media) by now. But it's too late for that now.
your reign of poor management and outright arrogance is coming to a definite end, and it can't come soon enough. Hope you have enough cat cages to make for a safe move of your furry little family to Philly or Florida or wherever someone will have you. Don't worry about turning the office lights off when you leave, I hear they're set on timers.

The thing that screamed out, for me in this interview was this.
We don't need more people in patrol.
This proves to me that the man has no concept of what the Chicago Police Dept. does. A strong police presence, and immediate response is most important. A positive, response by experienced officers, can make all the difference.
I was a SOG ranger. We made a lot of arrests, and travel the districts. I know that patrol was more important.
J-Fed seems to feel his 300 plus S0S Unit, can be enough to deter crime.
In my opinion, this shows how clueless, this man is, as to what the police do.
Weis and Daley are truly evil men. How do they sleep at night. The innocent blood of a lot of people is on their hands, and the safety that criminals feel is directly theirs too! Daley is going, I just hope Weis leaves soon. These dishonorable, lying, self serving, evil men really do sicken me.

A couple of months ago, I posted something about Sirott being a tool, and got more than a few "He's a good guy, you don't know what you're talking about:, responses. I stand by what I said.
I'm all for a protest, but not for reasons that make us look like crybabies. Not well thought out.
Did Sirott ask why Jody's last two drivers got merit promotions? Did he ask him if they are such good drivers and wonderful officers why were they moved to another unit a few months before promotions? Did the merits ever actually work for the people who put them in for merit or was that all smoke and mirrors to get the favored in.
Did he ask him to define "merit" and what constitutes "merit". Did the subject of 30% merit / clout promotions ever come up and how it affects morale? Did he ask why hardly anyone gets "merited" out of patrol and that the sgt and lt promotions were nearly all from "special units"?
Did he go over the fact if you scored 200 on the test that 60 "merits" will jump ahead of you?That means 60 people who don't test well or don't bother to study because they know they will be merited jump ahead of you? That 60people jump ahead of you with seniority?
Did he ask how do you get to be triple merit promoted if that means you couldn't pass three promotional tests? i.e., dic, sgt, lt. Was any of that discussed or was it just how to weight train and that people recognize him on the street.
I like how in #5, Bob Sirrot gives us a genuine salute.

One of the questions on every exam was; What is the primary responsibility of the police dept.
Correct answer; Aggressive and Preventive PATROL.
Dear Mr. Weis, 300 of so officers in the SOS Unit, that can be deployed to areas of need, may sell well on TV.
If you had a fully staffed well supervised patrol division, with high moral,you would understand what really makes a difference.

Did you read the entire letter to donahue as it was linked on the bottom of the story (Tribune, not Sun-Times, as you stated)? He has nothing but praise for the officers and only rips on Donahue. Agree or not, he doesn't bad mouth any of us in his letter against Donahue. And who showed everyone we weren't unified? I think the protest march was Donahue's idea! The media picks out the parts they want to use - read the letter before you comment about it.
