Five Cops Hurt Overnight

A series of (un)related(?) traffic crashes, including the one mentioned late last night involving shots fired:
  • Five Chicago Police officers were injured overnight in a series of crashes on the city’s West and Northwest sides.

In the first incident, two officers were injured while conducting a traffic stop at Sacramento Avenue and Addison Street in the Irving Park neighborhood.

  • Just 20 minutes later, a vehicle struck a police officer after shots were fired at the officers at Marmora Avenue and Irving Park Road in the Portage Park neighborhood.

  • In the third incident, three people – including two police officers – were injured in when a vehicle hit their a squad car and sent it into a building at Cicero Avenue and Erie Street, on the cusp of the West Garfield Park and South Austin neighborhoods.
Here's the screen capture from the Channel 2 website of one of the incidents:

It is truly fortunate no one was killed last night. Quick recoveries are wished upon all the involved Officers.

Back to the Teams being reassigned back to the Districts: There was a day when we did all that in the marked cars. We got guns, hit the dope houses on our blocks, knew all the players and did something about it.

Just because you are in a uniform doesn't mean you are handicapped. Get together with your fellow Beat Officers and keep YOUR Beat clean. Take some pride in what you get done in a day. We are always smarter than them. Remind them daily that the regular citizens are the rightful owners of the streets. I don't think that's impossible.

Slow down good people, the way Daley and the City Elites treat CPD, coupled with the disrespect from the public, why would anyone endanger themselves any more than necessary in responding to emergency calls, of which over half of are bullshit. Illegals, uninsured, and stoned drivers are everywhere all over Chicago. Be safe, and go home to your loved ones alive and well. Don't get yourself killed or paralyzed for this City of Corruption and Police-Haters.

Best wishes for full recoveries to all officers.

Heal well officers!

I was working housing west last night and helped block off an intersection for one of the injured officers.
Watching the fleet of squads escorting the CFD ambulance east along Madison towards cook county hospital brought back some not too distant bad memories.

Stay safe out there guys and gals, you ARE the thin blue line

"At 9:20 p.m., Jefferson Park District police were on patrol near Addison Street and Cicero Avenue when they saw a vehicle matching a car that eluded officers in the Town Hall District several miles to the east. The vehicle allegedly attempted to strike two bicycle officers...

"When the Jefferson Park District officers attempted to make a traffic stop, the vehicle — which police said was a red Audi — then fled from officers.

"When the car stopped near West Berenice and North Melvina avenues, officers approached on foot. At this time, the car then accelerated towards them, striking one officer and prompted police to fire shots...

"The offender fled from the scene [driving] on the sidewalk to the area of Irving Park Road and Marmora Avenue, where assisting officers saw the car. As the officers approached the suspect, the car again accelerated toward police, striking a police vehicle and one officer who had already exited the squad car...

"This second charge at the officers prompted the officers to fire shots again. The offender continued to flee on foot, where he made a threatening manner towards an officer...

"After a brief foot chase, the offender was apprehended approximately half a block from the crime scene..."

This is the reason that you should not drink the so called Kool aid that has been flowing deep within the confined walls of 35th street.

This is for all you TRU, MSF, Tactical officer that drinks from the same kool aid stand that the top brass do. WAKE UP. There is NO NEED to race any where in this shitcago. We are so under manned and racing to jobs will only prove that we have enough officers and that our response time is good!

Do yourself and your partner a favor and get to your job in a "timely fashion" when you want to get there. Oh, and stay away from the kool aid, and use hair spray instead of gel.

Just to clarify -- I did not mean "a poor second-best" on the part of the officers involved. To take someone like this into custody after what he just did is the epitome of take-a-deep-breath, disgusted, ice-cold professionalism, and requires about a million dollars' worth of self-control and evaluation of the situation.

Offender in custody, no further injuries to police or innocent people -- great job.

I sure as hell did mean "2415" for this character, though...

OT --

Let's keep those borders open, people. Now it's Armenian criminals bleeding us dry -- and you wonder why your taxes keep going up and up...

Dozens charged with largest Medicare scam ever

Tom Hays, Associated Press Writer – Wed Oct 13, 9:33 pm ET

NEW YORK – A vast network of Armenian gangsters and their associates used phantom health care clinics and other means to try to cheat Medicare out of $163 million, the largest fraud by one criminal enterprise in the program's history, U.S. authorities said Wednesday.

Federal prosecutors in New York and elsewhere charged 73 people. Most of the defendants were captured during raids Wednesday morning in New York City and Los Angeles, but there also were arrests in New Mexico, Georgia and Ohio.

The scheme's scope and sophistication "puts the traditional Mafia to shame," U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said at a Manhattan news conference. "They ran a veritable fraud franchise."

That worked great way back when, but with the leadership we got now? No way is it worth it with this crew. We have an IPRA cop hating boss licking her chops and a Supt. that promotes the least qualified and dumbs down the department. We have a court system and ASA's office that is very easy on bad guys, but vigilant with their investigation on coppers. We have a city hall that has set new levels of corruption and double standards and asks us to do more with less of everything. Remember, Cozzi "handled things" but look what that got him. He was tried twice for the same minor "crime" and now he sits in the fed pen.

You are the tool(s) my friends... We ALL should be carrying and using the shotgun on a daily basis. Get your head out of your ass. You can use a shotgun for so many situations (including crowd control, i.e., puerto rico fest) which makes it absolutely essential in an urban environment. Shotguns and rifles for all!

Dear retired old timer. I hope you enjoy your retirement and have found activites to keep you busy. Times have changed on CPD. Years ago you had real leaders to guide you and back you up when making arrests. Today we seriously lack supervision and leadership. The Cozzi incident we never happened ten years ago. No motivation and a horrible shortage of officers on the street. You also had a real SOS that accomplished the mission. Tac teams that actually made part 1 arrests. Not today for the hair gel tac teams. Sad but true.

I don't believe for one second that there was an Officer walking around on foot with a shotgun in Hiumboldt Park during PR Fest. There is not one single or Sergeant or Lieutenant that would allow it. And there were plenty there.

09:38PM here: Anyone advocating walking around a fest, babysitting drunks and breaking up fights while carrying a long gun....is an ASSHOLE. The shotgun has its place, just not at PR fest....or any other place that the Police are babysitting drunks. I am not about to cut and paste 10,000 words to make this point. The shotgun stays in the car until you need it...its not a substitute for a Taser or OC, even if you think it looks cool. Just who really is the tool ?

It was my understanding that Downtown pulled the shotguns quite recently, simply because they wouldn't lock into the rifle racks in the cars. One officer here suggested a ten-cent job with an Allen wrench to move the jaws to where they'd grab the shotgun barrel, but I said that a sensible move like that sounded like it'd get you written up for an "unauthorized modification."

This PR Fest thing sounds like a rumor.

They should send 016 to 025.They do nothing here.Theres a group of gypsies running around 016 and targetting seniors and doing burglars and no arrests. Send them away ,they wont be missed. Until they prove they deserve the pay theyre making ,they dont deserve respect.Eb should make that a 90 day detail district ,just to get a lil break, not a permanant spot for guys on the way out ,or burned out,or just lazy.Same with 019 and the airports. Its time everyone had to get theyre hands a lil dirty .if u wanna make the same money busy district pos make

I agree, with the shortage and everything going on they need to do something. Here quick fix, extend 016 to Diversey ,id say fullerton but that isnt gonna happend. But give them the extre 4 blocks south ,since theyre never in a backlog and 025 has one daily. They have way to many tact guys that are making arrests the do not justify theyre existence.

Heres another idea, entend 017 also to Diversey on the east end. I know nap time will be cut down, but at least 025 will not be in a back log. Unless of course by some miracles 016 starts kicking ass and clearing patterns.
