Teams Disbanded

No longer a rumor, but a fact - according to Bureau of Patrol Order #10-0235 that is:
  • Cancellation of Saturation Team and Midnight Tactical Team Detail

Effective 0001hrs 14 October 2010 (11th Police Period), all members (Sergeants and Police Officers) currently detailed to Area Saturation Team and the Area Midnight Tactical Team, will return to the Units of Assignment. Their details will be canceled.

These members will be assigned to watches and Day off Groups at the discretion of the Commanders of the Districts they are returning to.

The order effectively ceases the operation of the area saturation teams and area midnight gang teams.
So the Districts will be getting between a few people back before they strip them away again for the new platoon as MSF. Someone can correct this if we're wrong, but don't Day Off Group changes usually have to have 7 days notice?

And will someone buy a Grammar and Capitalization guide for Downtown Ernie Brown's office?

What's sad about this is that Daley will now claim this 'puts mmore cops on the street' (because the public doesn't know that they were always on the street, anyway).

Fran, Sneed, reassigning street people to other street jobs is NOT putting more police on the street.

And just WAIT til you see how many people are retiring this year on 15 October and 15 November.

The To/From from EB was dated 08OCt but put out 12OCT. Wow, one days notice. What that says is fuck you to all those who worked SAT and Midnight tact teams. It says EB doesn't give a shit whether it totally screws up your home schedule with family, kids, babysitters. You have one day to totally redo your life schedule. Oh and by the way we want you to go out there and work your ass off for the people who don't give two shits about you. Someone please indict this dirty piece of shit already. Re-open the confidential investigation that IAD had going on EB, I'm sure he's up to his old tricks again.

Those looking to get out of GEU, tough shit. The fearless Leo "I've put myself in for every award I have" Schmitz has stated that he will deny any PAR forms to leave. Great unit, I've heard of units you can't get into but one you can't get out of? When Weis is gone this self-promoter will be a LT. Pissed off a lot of other bosses to scam a gold star. Oh and the hopes you had of getting your regular day/night rotation back are gone. The 2/1 is here to stay with the possibility of becoming even worse. He'll say he doesn't know anything about it but he will do anything to the unit to get himself a better spot.

Not in this situation. Read the contract under day off changes. End of a period, employer may change a day off group, cancellation of a detail is not one of the situations mandating a 7 day notice.

Downtown doesn't give a shit about the contract anyway.

I can't wait to see these 3-year-wonder Hair Gels back in roll call in full uniform, tails between their legs as they meagerly look around the room for acceptance from their "new" coworkers. Some of these officers will be the same handjobs that wouldn't even acknowledge the guys and gals in blue while they were "elite" prima donnas donning blue jeans and baseball caps. Funny, these lowly patrolmen grunts are now the very same partners they may have to (UGH!!!) sit in a beat car with for a FULL tour.

Gone...the 2 hour lunches. Gone...the (maybe) 6 hour work day. Gone...the whole team padding those O.T. slips for a single UUW arrest. Gone...being able to come and go as you please. Gone...the unrestricted Time Due and "holding" of slips. Gone...early ducks 3 or 4 times a week.

While I personally think Downtown Ernie Brown is as incompetent as they come, I applaud this directive, whether it's timing and application was purposely done or not. A reality check for many of the puds in
these units was LONG overdue.

Maybe NOW some of you will figure out that the Department doesn't give a flying fuck about you, your family or the daily logistics surrounding children, babysitters and side jobs.

All that humping and "runnin' and gunnin'" (puuuuhhhlease!) you wonder kids did amounts to NOTHING more than a little bit of extra cash via overtime and court appearances, while many in charge of you (read: Rick Flair) have padded their own resumes with your collective blood, sweat and tears; your time, efforts and loyalty to this job has yielded a big, fat goose egg in the end for the majority of you. Perhaps a couple that knew how to kiss ass extra good will land somewhere cushy, but the rest will return from whence they came.

One word of advice for all you Superstars that have been knocked down a few rungs on the Reality Ladder: next time you're lucky enough to work with an Old Timer "dog" that doesn't want to do anything beyond answer his/her calls for service, tell him/her "You were right".

First, it sure would be nice for a little notice to the P.O.'s on the teams. This is the typical shit the brass have pulled for ages. Second, it will be nice to get some panpower back in the districts, but it's only 4 P.O.'s per district at the most. Then the brass want to pull more P.O.'s back out of the districts again to beef up annother MSF team. DUMB!

This is sign of the times. We are broke as a city. We are top heavy in all aspects of city managment. It does not matter who the mayor is or who the sup is (as long as it is not weis) we are screwed. This economy is here for the long haul. This type of reshuffling is going to be the new norm. I feel bad that persons who took the initiative to work knowing this department would fu@k y@u in a heartbeat. I work the watch and have for the last fifteen years and I am disgusted how "all about me" and "poor patrol" have become the battle cry of this department. We bitch about three year wonders but don't have the courage to mentor them. The last six watches I worked officers talk about what was owed to them and would not clear a fuc@ing job. I'm not saying go out to lock people up but stop dumping jobs on other cops and stop using our condition as an excuse for not doing a thing. So I for one welcome backany warm bodies that will fill a beat car.

More bodies on the street will help, but it won't solve the real problems and the crime-rate will continue to get worse. The "Patrol Division" doesn't have time to patrol due to being short-staffed and inundated with bullshit calls. Combine that with the implicit threat to officers of federal time and punitive damages for nonsense and you have no proactive policing. With no proactive policing, narcotics sales become much more profitable with much less risk of jail time. As narcotics sales become more profitable, violence increases as gangs and individuals within gangs fight for the most profitable locations to do business. The increase in profitability also results in gangs being more heavily armed. For the young and naive officers among us that still want to risk their freedom and livelihood to "make a difference" and build their street-creds, their work is rewarded by our judges who routinely toss felony charges by falsely claiming in open court that the officers had "no probable cause" to make the arrest. The public defenders then instruct their criminal clients to sue the police officers for false arrest. The end result is that we drive around from b.s. call to b.s. call and write reports that are then promptly discarded by ungrateful citizens as the gang members continue to kill and rob. The concerned, but oblivious law-abiding citizens live in fear of thugs and don't understand why the police can't do more to stop the violence. Well, as our fearful leader has said, "Non-violent narcotics sales are not a priority" and "We have enough police officers." The "my baby-daddy be callin' me all kind of bitches and hoes. Tell them bitch-ass polices to hurry the fuck up!" call is a 1A (high priority call), but the gang members (who do most of the robbing and killing) selling narcotics on the corner is a 3C (very low priority). Makes perfect sense, right?

This has been rumored for how long? So if you are actually shocked that it happened you aren't that bright. Plus it was a detail not an assigment so you knew what you were getting when you signed on. Its about time these mickey mouse bullshit units are done away with. But please don't stop with that! HQ must strike while the iron is hot. The department needs to recognize the operators of MSF and TRU. I say turn back the clock and do what they did with the task force. They allowed the task force to have TF on the uniform patch. The hard working officers of these specialized units need to be given something to set us apart from the minor leagues of the patrol division. If not a patch then maybe some different head gear. A balaclava paired with a beret bearing the units' emblem. (in case you didn't know the MSF emblem is a cool looking steel eagle with a M4 in one claw and a lighting bolt in the other with $50.00 bills falling from the sky) If the city wants to deploy us to the urban jungle lets at least look the part.

P.S. to all you guys that just got sent to the minors and want chance at the big leagues its not too late applications are still being taken! But please risk takers and challenge makers only !

Hawke's Bay New Zealand

[...]Police Minister Judith Collins supports officers having easier access to firearms because they have to deal with armed gangs and P dealers.

Police Commissioner Howard Broad is conducting a review and looking at proposals to ensure officers have firearms close at hand if they need them.

He is expected to report back before the end of the year.

Ms Collins yesterday said a likely option was to have lock-boxes in the front of patrol cars and work was already being done to assess how such a policy would operate.

She told the Police Association annual conference she would not support officers wearing guns ``at schools, in malls or where they have a lot of contact with the community''

[...]..I'm not prepared to stand by and see officers shot while we're worrying about whether or not they should have lock boxes in their cars, the fact is the criminals have been arming themselves now for some years,'' she said.

``It's just like tasers -- tasers were going to be the most dreadful thing brought in and actually they've saved lives. And I'd like to make sure our officers' lives are valued as well.''

Ms Collins said while she supported greater access by police to firearms, she did not support general arming at this stage.

``We're one of the few countries in the world where police are not routinely armed. What we do know is that we've had nine officers shot in just over a couple of years, we've got a pretty small population, that's a very sad story.''

Sure, it's not like we ever see people shot at a school or a mall right? Anyone? Bueller...Bueller?

"The police department comes first. If you wanted a constant schedule you should have taken a factory job."

That is what I was told years ago. That is many missed holidays and family gatherings ago.

Now I have the seniority to work days and get off whenever I want but the family is grown and moved away.

Take the time off for your family no matter what. Time due, personal day, IOD or medical, any way you have to do it. The police department is a hand job, family comes first. Period.

Saturation teams had long outlived their usefulness. It was never meant to be a permanent detail for p.o.s, three months to see the other districts in the area and not be tied down to the radio. Sort of a pro-active policing experience for those who thought they might like tact. I think the gun teams days are numbered as well, not that they haven't worked but why are they "gun" teams? Never understood the label, gangs, narcotics and guns are all intertwined. I understand narcotics, undercover buys at the street level and see where it leads you up the chain. I understand gang teams, although I don't think they're being managed properly. But gun teams is like putting the cart in front of the horse. I thought midnight tact was a good idea, shame they killed that off.

First, it sure would be nice for a little notice to the P.O.'s on the teams. This is the typical shit the brass have pulled for ages. They know many days if not weeks before hand what is happening, but drop it on the guys days before. Second, it will be nice to get some panpower back in the districts, but it's only 4 P.O.'s per district at the most. Then the brass want to pull more P.O.'s back out of the districts again to beef up annother MSF team. DUMB!

10/13/2010 10:47:00 AM

I can't wait to see these 3-year-wonder Hair Gels back in roll call in full uniform, tails between their legs as they meagerly look around the room for acceptance from their "new" coworkers....................

I for one will be happy to see them back. Who the fuck are you to judge these Officers. From the sound of it you are nothing but a fucking mule who takes two hour lunches by dogging jobs, and working the system. That's what I'm tired of. The fucking mules who have done it all, and think that sitting down on shit is the way to do this job. If I have to call for a car, I shouldn't have to listen to dead air about who is going to come and assist me when I'm on a domestic fighting dude. Many times it was one of the outside units showing up because of the mules on the watch. I don't fault anyone for not wanting to do any extra work, but when shit gets dogged out it just creates more work for me and the others that actually have a work ethic. Do you even know what a work ethic is? I don't even know why I am bothering, I'm sure you'll have some witty remark about me being a 3 year wonder, but you would be wrong. I've worked with guys with 20, 30 years on who still go out and lock mother fuckers up. I know I'm just rambling at this point, but it struck a nerve. I'm glad you're content with being an inside do nothing. The only bad thing about them coming back is whether or not there will be enough cars for everyone.

10/13/2010 09:57:00 AM

Some are. But you know the Tact. Lt. would cry. Gotta get those BS #'s. Example: My DC came into tact office and told my team that numbers were good, go after real offenders and gangbangers, and that headquarters is happy if there isn't a homicide that night. Tact Lt. waits for DC to leave the office, he tells us the complete opposite of what we were just told. Also that are numbers are slightly down and we need to bring them up anyway we can ie. pissers and drinkers like some or most teams do.

10/13/2010 09:26:00 PM

My bullshit detector is usually accurate, but this time I really can't tell if this is hyperbole or serious. Something tells me it's serious because these clowns on this team really do believe they are the best coppers on the planet.

The spectacle you guys have made in A/5 has left a lasting impression. The best was the time a couple beat cops call a 10-1 fighting with a shitbag and then one of you turns up in the processing almost going to blows with the A/O because he locked up "your boy".

parading around wearing baggy hoodies over your uniform, particularly in the dark and creeping out of the bushes, chest bumping after footchases, and all your other antics have not gone unnoticed. You might have brought in numbers, but at the end of the day, you were all unprofessional, poorly spoken thugs.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Its no wonder this job is shot beyond repair...bunch of kids well-wishing and ass-grabbing over "accomplishments" that don't amount to shit. The people hired in the last 10-15 years or so is so telling as to where this department is truly headed. Fucking disgusting...

10/13/2010 10:11:00 PM

Well said! You're not going to be a better cop just cause you're in a team and wear jeans. Either you got it or you don't. Some working cops in units and there are other on the watch that either haven't been given the opportunity or just prefer to stay on the watch. Working cops will work whether they're on a unit or on a watch, end of story.

Please, Please, Please, give this Unit something on their uniform that designates them differant from District personnel, then CR#s will go to the proper Unit for invstigation, and not to District Sgts. Which will probably result in a lot more sustained CR#s

I can't believe all the hating on the sat and gang teams. People keep saying they did nothing or that they are cry babies or that they are 2 year wonders. Sorry, you are mistaken and incorrect on your statements. Most had at least double that time on the job and nearly everyone one of those guys and girls with the exception of just a few worked their asses off and continually brought in great numbers and carried their weight. Jealousy will get you nothing.

As for the gun teams, they carry their weight even more plus they are federally funded moron so they are not going anywhere.

Really bullshit though how the department gave all these working coppers 2 days notice for the switch. Totally screwed everybody with kids, vacations planned, side jobs planned, etc.

11:45 PM that post was as real as it gets.

Numbers,#'s, tx.'s

Nobody cares or even knows what a part 1 is anymore.

Ex...You guys are doing great, but we need more dispersal's. Hell of week guys, we need more contact cards. Search warrants take too much time. We could have had 4 heads instead of one. Goldmember and his computer wants you guys to get guns, dope, dispersal's and contact cards on this one block. All eight of you, same block everyday for two weeks ...etc..

The numbers game can be so annoying and at times I feel I have sold my soul to the devil.

BUT, I still think it's better than the watch.(not the coppers, the constant b.s. jobs). Also, I would be doing a great disservice to the old Lugan and Polish ladies if I quit wearing my tight blue jeans.

I think I'm getting used to being someones bitch. What have I become?

Sat Teams: Yes they were a group of their own and yes they did what every other team has been doing for years. They were a group of guys working for a system that was flawed BUT they were working the system (nothing different that the beat guy). They were asked to bring numbers and that what they did (agree with system or not). they did it to benefit their lives, at least for the time being.
Of course the guns weren't always there but there had to be way to show that they were at least trying. Taking the disturbance from the beat guy (because driving by just would't cut it)wasn't so bad because it would work ok for everyone. The Sat guy may get an arrest and the beat guy can move on to their own agenda.
Drinkers and pissers? Hmmm...well lets just say that was a way to clean up the block at least for a few hours-after they are both an mcc violation!
At the end of the day these guys and girls did what no one else would do.

Again why hate?

I'm just sayin'

140 P.O.'s and 15 Sgts back to the districts. Just a dog and pony move so the department bosses or the Mayor can S A Y "we put 150 officers back on the street" when in fact they were already on the street and doing a fine job. Do the math, that's less than 1 Sgt per district and less than 5 officers per district divided by the 3 watches, that's less than 2 officers per watch. Doesn't make a bit of difference whatsoever.

Also, don't get too full of yourself about citywide "specialized units".

Personally, I do not include one baggers, drinkers, pissers, hos, selling loose cigs, shooting craps, parkers and similar bullshit as REAL police work.

However, NEVER ever forget the aggressive(*) street cops who are working or have worked in fast districts. Those coppers are the heart and soul of the CPD--da REAL mutherfuckin' PO-leese.

When I worked at headquarters a few years ago, I realized that this is a business but there are few mba's in the bunch. Like earlier in this story probably most of the folks will go to msf. This department is in a state of disarray. We do get shit upon. Don't hang your heads we have a chance to change things with this up coming election. The whole future is in our hands. Stop voting for these low class lawyers and community activist, start voting for someone with a ton if business experience. We need business here. Instead do your job and if you happene to earn a spot on a tac team so be it. The majority of working police will not accept a spot on a tact team.
