South of the Border Problems

We don't think anyone has covered this story locally in any detail. It began 30 September on a lake in Texas that straddles the border:
  • Mexican pirates operating on Falcon Lake, which is shared by the United States and Mexico, on Thursday shot an American tourist who had crossed the border on a Jet Ski.

Tiffany Hartley, 29, said her husband, David Michael Hartley, 30, was shot in the back of the head as they tried to escape an ambush on the lake, The Associated Press reports.

Hartley tried to turn around to save her husband but said she had to continue to retreat when she heard bullets whizzing by. Today, search teams continue to comb the Texas side of the lake for David, who is presumed dead. Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez said he had asked the Mexican consulate to conduct a search on his country's side of the lake as well.
Falcon Lake is a known transit point for narcotics entering the U.S. and the pirates are believed to be an offshoot of the "Zetas" cartel doing robberies as a side job of sorts. Mexican authorities promised to cooperate in the investigation and have been looking for the body of the dead American for weeks now.

The entire incident has taken a decidedly bad turn yesterday:
  • The lead Mexican investigator in the Falcon Lake case, Rolando Armando Flores Villegas, has been killed, his severed head delivered Tuesday in a suitcase to the Mexican military, officials told CNN.

"His head was delivered to the army garrison this morning in a suitcase after he failed to report back home last night," Zapata County, Texas, Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez Jr. said.

A spokesman for the attorney general of Tamaulipas state in Mexico, Ruben Dario-Rios, confirmed the killing Tuesday afternoon in a telephone interview.

This isn't the first incident of American's being killed within sight or sound of the border by armed invaders. The lawlessness is spilling over in increasing waves though.

In 1801, President Jefferson sent the US Navy almost 5,000 miles to protect American interests from pirates. Now, the southern border is a sieve of narcotics and human trafficking and innocents on both sides are suffering. Maybe someone ought to look at sealing the border a little closer?

Do you think J Weis might apply for a Police Chief position on the Mexican side of the border?

SCC, sealing the border is racist. There's no such thing as an illegal alien. We have a responsibility to ensure that those migrant workers who do the work that Americans won't have a clear path into this arrogant country and all of the opportunities for health care and education once they get here. If we spend money on the border, it should be for signs, in Spanish, explaining how to use the system and vote for the Democrats. Those border incidents are just the Mexican people acting out against our racist policies. It's our fault.

OK, that's the best I can do faking it as a brain dead liberal.

I'd just like to thank Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano for providing us with "the most secure border ever." There is no illegal immigration problem. There is no drug trafficking problem. There is no "revolving door" at the US-Mexico border for deported violent criminals. Oh, yeah. All that violence in Mexico? It's our fault because our gun laws aren't strict enough. I mean, you know how easy it is to buy automatic weapons and hand grenades at your local gunshow loophole, right?

Personally, I think it's just about past time for another "punitive expedition" across our southern border, or maybe some cross-border Predator/Reaper strikes on narcoterrorists, just like we do in our Pakistani allies' territory.

Great article in Phoenix Magazine (October 2010) entitled "The Iron River" by Amanda J. Crawford. Crawford describes Arizona's concern over the potential for Mexican drug cartel violence to spill over the border and how a steady flow of firearms south from Phoenix is helping give the cartels their lethal firepower.

Jackie "Jippy" Munoz didn't make much money as a diner cook. When he fell behind on his truck payments, his attorney says, Munoz took advantage of a sure-fire way to make money in Phoenix nowadays: He started buying guns for a Mexican drug cartel.

Dennis K. Burke, U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona says, "We have an iron river of weapons that flows south (to Mexico)." Burke's office is prosecuting Munoz and recently prosecuted 10 people accused of smuggling at least 117 guns purchased at gun shows and stores in Phoenix and Tucson to Mexico's Sinaloa drug cartel.

Bill Newell, ATF agent in charge for Phoenix, says the agency has "clear evidence" Phoenix is a gun-smuggling hub. In August, the ATF had about 300 active Arizona cases of firearms trafficking to Mexico, mostly from the Phoenix area - twice as many as in 2009, Newell says.

Federal law requires licensed gun dealers to submit a report to ATF when someone buys two or more HANDGUNS in a five-day period at the same store. The reporting requirement is specific to HANDGUNS. There is no such reporting requirement for assault RIFLES or any other kind of LONG GUN.

"Someone can go in and buy 10
AK-47s - that happens all of the time here," Newell says. "On its face, that's not illegal - but who really uses AK-47s? Unless we can prove (the weapons are) going to someone else, we can't do anything about it." (www.phoenixmag.com)

Elm Creek Smith: You are right on target, brother!! And all we get from Janet Napolitano is, "See, the system works."

II don't think we will respond to the problem because we don't have any men left in our government. We have feminized creatures that are think a severe punishment would be a time-out for felons. These politicians are so worried about offending someone that they can't act in our best interests. I just wonder how bad it will have to get before we get our heads out of our asses and do what is necessary?

It's happening plenty already; the last chopped-up Hispanic body found in trash bags over in Oak Park was an 025 resident, 2700 N. something.

"...Arizona's concern over the potential for Mexican drug cartel violence to spill over the border..."

--10/13/2010 02:30:00 PM

All sorts of stuff already has; I remember posting some material months ago about how Phoenix is the kidnapping capital of the US now, gangs holding literally 70-80 illegal aliens in houses in the best parts of town, squeezing the relatives for whatever they're worth. The victims obviously don't have to have money; they'll grab anyone.

Wait until they get tired of this and branch out to Oak Brook.

"...and how a steady flow of firearms south from Phoenix is helping give the cartels their lethal firepower."

Yeah, "blame the US and its 'lax gun laws' for causing la violencia in poor little Mexico" is a favorite twist of the anti-gunners these days, but some of the biggest confiscations of weapons in Mexico I've seen laid out for the TV cameras have been of brand shining new military hardware -- M-4s, M-203s, piles of gleaming fresh 40mm grenade rounds -- this stuff sure ain't coming from Ed's Gun Show and Poodle Swap Meet.

Undoubtedly stolen from Mexican Army armories. Cartels have mucho money, soldiers don't have much, money talks. So does "kill your whole family." Universal language.

What's so disquieting about drug-legalization-as-desperation-fallback is that someone with his prison number tattooed on his forehead -- the whole face done until he looks like Satan himself -- simply isn't going to give up his corner and take a minumum-wage job. The people at the bottom want their gold fronts and Nikes and pimped rides; what measures are the ones at the top going to take to preserve their Lear Jets and private islands?

Organized crime survived the repeal of Prohibition just fine, didn't it? Christ, we ended up with Las Vegas.

Something to think about.

Maybe the thing to do with criminals like this is to ____ them.

Oops. Didn't read far enough here on SCC.

"The lead Mexican investigator in the Falcon Lake case, Rolando Armando Flores Villegas, has been killed, his severed head delivered Tuesday in a suitcase to the Mexican military, officials told CNN."

It's kind of obvious who's running things, isn't it?

"Falcon Lake is a known transit point for narcotics entering the U.S. and the pirates are believed to be an offshoot of the "Zetas" cartel doing robberies as a side job of sorts.

Theory -- drug legalization will remove profit from business, stop violence.

Reality -- pirates, hard-pressed for cash, begin working full-time.

Not a fucking peep from anyone in Washington DC about this. They must be afraid of the narco terrorists too, or else on the payroll.

Don't think for a second that the narco bunch is the least bit afraid of taking some heads off north of the border if any local police chief gets too feisty in his border or narco enforcement.

The fucking mexican narco gangs are a more direct threat to our national security than anywhere else where we are pouring in billions of military resources.

Where is the well regulated militia, we need them on our southern border NOW!

How about a couple of fucking carrier battle groups and some US Marine fast response boats and attack carriers in the Gulf and in the Pacific and start hitting these cock suckers hard.

They take a head, we vaporize them and everyone around them. Surely we have every square inch down there under satellite surveillance and it isn't too hard to set up some drone control stations in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California. Wait a minute, don't we already have those resources there? And aren't there some rather large military bases in some of those states? And we have to read about US Citizens being killed within sight of their own country?

What the fuck is this? Where the fuck are our leaders? GET ON THE FUCKING CASE GODDAMNIT!

Miserable cock sucker politician maggots on TV every 8.5 minutes asking for my vote but not one fucking word about PROTECTING AMERICANS IN AMERICA!

Fucking bullshit for christ sake!

Here's my orders to my troops if I had a Division of Marines under my command: ATTACK, ATTACK ATTACK!

Order the 1st Marine Division out of Camp Pendleton, head south and secure the border. There are at lest 40,000 active duty US Marines assigned to that base, let them do what we train them to do.

There, that's what the fuck to do.

here are some thoughts. forget the middle east. Afghanistan, while culturaly diverse, hasn't contributed much, and saddam kept a lid on things, in particular Iran. i'd become friends with whoever can give us the edge over rising resource vacuums like russia, china, and india. I'd end the drug war, make narcotic related injuries/death non-payable "incidents" for insurance companies, ease up on immigration via another amnesty program(too many to kick back anyway), make pathway to citizenship with cancellation of dual citizenship, then SHUT DOWN the border. Better yet, make it a win win for both countries. Mexican political system needs help fighting the narco cartels? Let us seal the border, and permit the special forces to use it as a training ground.
Those who blame illegals for taking the jobs, screw you all. I blame the bosses that use the cheap labor, and everyone here that doesn't support union prices. We snoozed and lost. I can't blame them. If we want to keep jobs, then we should expect to pay American labor for thier prices. it will be high, but are we willing to pay it?

Mexican drug gangs expand into illegal mining

Wed Oct 13, 8:46 pm ET

"MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – A Mexican drug cartel already raking in hefty profits trafficking narcotics to the United States has discovered a new business in the western state of Michoacan -- illegal mining.

"A major money launderer from Mexico's La Familia drug cartel arrested on Wednesday allegedly ran a side businesses "selling natural mineral resources illegally extracted from the mountains along the coast of Michoacan."

"Theft of minerals in the region has been increasing in recent years," the attorney general's office said in a statement.

"Ignacio Lopez, captured along with three associates, is also accused of managing cash earned from La Familia's extortions of local residents and businesses, kidnapping operations and drug smuggling..."
