Really? We're Shorthanded?

You could knock us down with a whiffle bat. We had no idea:
  • After touting for weeks the planned hiring of 200 Chicago police officers next year, the Daley administration admitted Monday that the new cops won't even make up for the number of officers who will depart in 2011.

The city will have about 950 vacant police officer positions at the end of this year, said Gene Munin, the city's budget director. Although the city plans to hire 200 officers next year, it projects that 300 will leave the force.

Munin later conceded that the projection of 300 departures was not in keeping with historical patterns. Typically, about 450 officers retire or leave the force for other reasons each year, he said.

And we see no reason for that trend to be reversed any time soon.

Channel 2 also covers.

450 per year for last three equals 1500 give or take a few---- we have basically been reduced by ten percent in the past three years although I personally think the figure is closer to fifteen percent---- 2011 and 2012 will be worse---

We need a Mobile Wagon Force, made up of just squadrols, they can go where the transports are needed, not just where they are a luxury. tact guys can transport their own prisoners by buying their own shackles for prisoners, just like narcotics transports their own in unmarked cars without cages.

Out of boredom I went through the old FOP newsletters and the unofficial retirement count from January through the end of July was 307.

Not to give any credence to the left winger Al Franken, but this story just brings to mind the title of his book, "Lies And The Lying Liars Who Tell Them".

If the City indicates that they will dedicate all funds raised from parking and moving citations then I shall resume writing same in the future. Until then my pen is silent!

The bottom line is how much revenue is your department earning for this city? That's what Daley and some others look at. When you answer calls involving homicides, accidents, etc it earns the city nothing hence the reason why you get the big NO stamp when it comes to hiring officers.

However on the flip side of the coin, this dumb city refuses to make this a business environment friendly city. With no hige corporations here, that also hurts your department as well.

CPD has to start by cutting at the top , 2,000 officers down and CPD has more supervisors now than the 1980's . Put all the office police back on the street in a beat car and cpd will not have to hire more than 200 officers in the next 2 years .
70 to 80,000 a year to answer telephones , file reports , crossing guard supervisor , foot patrol , it has to end
replace the housecats with civilians

leomemorial---- the city also caters to illegals thru the sanctuary city nonsense and also welfare leeches---- they are not helping things either---- any business has an input and an output which hopefully leads to a profit---- obviously the city has way to little input and way to much output which means close the business or file for bankruptcy--- the 700 million dollar budget shortfall has nothing to do with how many tickets the cpd writes--- it is because of gross fiscal mismangement and pie in the sky revenue projections that any 5 year old could see right thru---- the real reason we are in dire straits is daley baba and his 50 thieves...

The lies; lies lies lies. Shuffling the numbers game again and the public believes anything Jody and Richard tells them. We're short easily 2,000 plus right now and that number will unfortunately reach the 2,500 mark before too long because more and more coppers are bailing early because of what this department and city has become.

Since 9/11, the mayor has been letting the police force reduce itself thru retirements. However, the taxpayers were still paying taxes for the full force. Hiow about an audit to see where alll those millions were diverted to?

Not making Chicago a business friendly city? Millions given to United to move into Willis tower? Millions in aid/ tax deals to Boeing and doesn't Daley's cousin sit on thier board or is sone sort of adviser? I think your business might not have had the right connection but Daley's been saddling citizen's with the freight for business for years.

This should be known as "The City that stinks!" How could the people we pay the big bucks to keep an eye on manpower management not know that when hiring stops and people retire that we would be shorthanded?? AND if we're shorthanded at the bottom, how the hell are you going to promote? So if there's no chance to advance, why bother working hard or why take this job in the first place? Come on Supt and exempt staff, what are you doing up there watching reruns of Bonanza?! WAKE UP!!!!

To the Two 2 Year Wonders in branch 38-2 today.... Court is not the place to turn around to each other and swap war stories about your 3 rock or one blunt arrest while court is in session. shut the f*ck up, sit still, and act like a professional. Idiots like you do not help the rest of us look any better to the judges and ASAs. No one cares you got on the 06 car after your 18months. And watching you testify with your star around your neck instead of on your shirt confirms you are stupid. I can't believe they gave you probable cause on your arrest...you sounded like you weren't even there for the arrest. Retards!

Interpretation....No more than the 200 hires already in the academy. No promos for next two years. Not necessary due to the reduction in force. No Dicks class. The city is still riding on the folding of Youth Investigators in as Detectives. This grew the Detective ranks by almost one third. It had no effect on personnell, but looked great on paper. No openings in any districts. Hope you like where you work...Your gonna be there a while....With early retirement health care packages. At least a 450 body count loss in 2011. Unless J-Fed fires/Strips any more mass groups of officers. Meanwhile, Call back has all the personnell it can use...

Business-friendly is not the same as what you are talking about. What you are talking about is benefitting and bribing a chosen few. They are hardly the same thing.

Business-friendly doesn't raise parking lot fees to levels where it's cheaper and more desirable to drive to suburban shopping centers. Or raising sales taxes to those same high levels. Or making it punitive to park at meters in front of small businesses in neighborhoods. Or reducing rat-control budgets, sanitation budgets and emergency-responder budgets.

Business-friendly does not mean suddenly fining businesses for signs they've had hanging over sidewalks for decades. It doesn't mean placing unreasonable restrictions on expansion and outrageous fines on minor infractions (lack of metal fence on your commercial property can cost hundreds per day).

Being business-friendly means 'how can we help you to thrive here in our city', not how can we extort every last cent from you before you wise up and run like hell from this city?

Get ready for "Zone Captains" on the 1st & 2nd watches. I guess the city will never learn about the "span of control" which is taught in management 101. We've all seen the great results that happen when there is one supervisor for too many officers (SOS??) Every district to have a captain on the 3rd watch, but one captain to cover both districts on the zone during the 1st & 2nd.
