Baby, It's COLD Outside
Get ready to wear every single item of outerwear you own, and possibly buy a few more. Artic air spreading across the Midwest will make it feel like 20 degrees below zero Thursday night in the Chicago area.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday and lasting until 11 a.m. Friday.
By Thursday evening, temperatures will quickly drop into the single digits shortly after sunset and continue to fall overnight, the weather service said. Much of the area will see low temperatures near or below zero, with winds of 15-25 mph expected to last through the night.
Wind chill readings of 20- to 29-below are expected. Wind chill values at this level can cause frostbite to exposed skin within 30 minutes, the weather service said.

They have a tarp on it and it has heating coils in the dirt. But the tuff still sucks!
"Does anyone know if they even bother keeping the playing surface of Soldier Field covered prior to game day?"
Aren't there heaters under the grass? I think all outdoor NFL venues have them.
It's still gotta be cold playing though!
It's heated below the surface. Heat goes up. No problem.
Brutal out here.
Don't stick your tongue on any lightposts tonight because NO ONE is going to venture out into the cold to help you.
.
I heard the big meeting in Chicago was about global warming!
They cover and heat the ground so its not like concrete.
I thought the debate was over, it’s supposed to be getting warmer damn it !
No wait, I just don’t get it – duh ….
Pass me more Kool-Aid thanks
When you're putting on those nice 10" insulated GI-type boots, DON'T HAUL BACK ON THE LACES; it's easy to get into the habit of doing that like the barracks was on fire.
It's OK to weat them tight for climbing, for maximum ankle sppport, et, but not if you want warm feet . On a night like this, ease the laces off all the way down to the toe, then gradually snug them back up a little, working up to the top where you'll be sure that the boot is not constricting your leg. Put 'em on real, real confortable -- they'll stay on running, etc., but you will not cut off the blood circulation and freeze your toes off. Believe me, this took me a long time to learn, and it makes a BIG difference.
Outer wind parka -- buy the biggest they have, three sizes bigger than you think you need. You'll find out when you have to put it over equipment, vest, sweaters, pile jacket, or down jacket, etc. Big and baggy and hanging right down to your knees with the sleeves dangling past your fingertips like a total dork is what you want in the store -- that changes real fast when you're all zipped up in it with the drawstrings pulled up snug over a lot of other gear.
Just a couple hard-learned lessons; this stuff costs, so try to get it right the first time...
I heard that there is some kind of heating element beneath the grass surface at Soldier Field to keep it from freeze.
I'm so glad that I have a place to stay that's heated right now. However I fear that I'll be on the street soon. :(
OT
Two Officers employed by the Miami-Dade Police Dept were killed today serving a warrant on a career criminal
May they rest in peace
My skin is as tough as a rhino's!!!!
Englewood out!!
its not that cold
I asked all the crackheads I know if they wouldn't mind firing up tonite under those tarps just to make sure that the elements stay lit and they just couldn't have been nicer about running on over there. Go Bears.

They do but they still haven't figured out how to grow grass outside in Chicago in January.
That 1B furlo is looking pretty good now!!
This is nothing ... I remember 1982 ... the whole month of January was below zero.
Do they keep the heat on during the game? Never can understand how they play sleeveless in the winter.
i had my wife stick her tongue on the street lightpole in front of our house to confirm it's cold. i also burnt my upper lip on my hot coco while watching her from our kitchen window.
I had to try to get to work and get my car started that day 25-30 years ago when it was -40 degrees BELOW ZERO. The engine oil was like glue and, with no garage at the time, the engine was like a block of ice.
Today is downright balmy compared to that day!
It's January! It's supposed to be fucking cold! WTF????
Back in January of 1982, our kids' school had the hot water heat pipes freeze, and had a 2 story wall of ice on the wall. A window opened in the biology lab, and we found 10 dead frozen frogs. My wife and I helped the priest from the parish clean up the mess . Our house was 58 degrees with the heat on full blast.

I remember that too. I walked to school in that, uphill in both directions.
Back in '79 It was so cold . . .
pickpockets were sticking their hands in strangers' pockets just to keep them warm!
Back in '83 It was so cold . . .
the politicians had their hands in their OWN pockets!

She still out there? It's well after dark...
Careful. You are gonna get a slug a Prestone in that next cup a cocoa. It's all in the way they smile when they hand it to you...
"They do but they still haven't figured out how to grow grass outside in Chicago in January."
But it must grow some, even in January. They were cutting the grass before last weeks' game in video I saw on the news.
OT - Olbermann Leaves ‘Countdown’ on MSNBC
Olbermann’s outspoken, and sometimes controversial, support of liberal positions and Democratic candidates redefined MSNBC from a neutral news channel to one with that openly sought to offer viewers on the left their own voice, much as Fox News has done so successfully for an audience of viewers with conservative opinions.

That must be why it is all fresh and green looking.
OK, I am taking an unscientific poll here. Everyone who goes out and cuts their grass this month please report back.
I thought so.
Are you kidding? Stick my tongue to that stupid pole? That's dumb!
Well I double-DOG-dare ya!
I TRIPLE-dog-dare ya!
So much for the libs crying about global warming!
