Class Act

Thank you Des Plaines:
  • SCC, an interesting footnote to this whole incident. The Des Plaines Police Chief came to the 024th District roll call at 5:30am to personally thank the officers involved in the arrest of this animal. It speaks volumes when a Chief from another department sees fit to visit coppers from another DEPARTMENT to acknowledge good work and Jody can't even make a statement to the media (which he seems to have on speed dial) praising his officers.
Classy move. The Chief could teach more than a few people here how to be a leader.

very classy

Once we had a fire in a 15 story building in 023

Police officers without air masks helped CFD rescue people from a very smoky fire

It was long ago so I cant recall the details except the building was on Wrightwood near Pine Grove

Anyway when we got in for check off the field Lt ( later Capt and Cmnder) held us over to tell us how we fucked up

Not that we took unnecessary chances with our safety

Some other bullshit the exact nature of which I cant remember

Good job Des Plaines PD

After many attempts to gather info on the arrest, in an effort to get recognition. BROOKFIELD has given them the cold shoulder and ignored their calls.......such a class act they are.

This is exactly why J-Fled won't be with us when the next Mayor is elected. These Feds just don't get the whole pride aspect of our profession. To do their investigations, they use calendars and yes, that's plural, as in multiple years. Being a first responder is foreign to them. They don't understand the idea of the "instant victory" of catching a bad guy in the act and taking them into custody. To be fair, Feds are good at their job also, but they do not do what cops do.

Hiring an FBI agent to run a police department because they are both in the field of 'law enforcement' is sort of like hiring Kristi Yamaguchi to coach NFL offensive linemen because they are all 'professional athletes'. They just have different training, experiences and skill sets.

And, btw, I have a friend who works for the FBI as a "Support Agent". He has FBI credentials and a badge, the same as a "Special Agent", but he is part of what they call their Special Surveillance Group, or SSG. They have all the latest in technology and cameras etc and track terror suspects for the Special Agents cases, but they ARE NOT trained or authorized to carry weapons of any type or make actual arrests. They simply track, and record movements and contacts that these people make.

Now, this next part may shed some light on WHY these Feds are not the rah rah type: There is a cash incentive to do their job, at least there is with the "Support Agents". When these guys are successful at capturing video or audio that is used in an investigation or trial to convict bad guys, they are put in for a "reward", which is a cash incentive or payment like $75 up to a couple hundred bucks. And it comes with a certificate, as well (think Honorable Mention). More than once, he's said "f*ck the certificate, gimme the cash".

So, my point here is, the Feds incentive to do a good job is a financial reward and not necessarily comraderie or respect from their peers after a big arrest. On this, they are clueless.

SCC, it's very thoughtful that the Des Plaines Chief would take the time to come into Chicago and thank those involved. But at this point in the "Daley/J-Fled administration," did anyone here actually expect anything different from either of them? Or 3M? Would those guys in 024 want to see any of those slackers show up at their roll calls and talk to THEM about Police work? I didn't think so. Let's just all be happy that this sad, sorry chapter in our Dept.'s history is rapidly drawing to a close as February is right around the corner. When I was in Grand Crossing in the mid 80's, we had a fire on the midnights. Five of us went to the hospital for smoke while evacuating a large apartment building. We were put in for a life saving award. Sams called us into his office and he said that he would not approve the award because he thought we were lying about our injuries and he did not believe we were in the building. I was stunned. When Sames left 003, they found four file cabinet drawers stuffed with unapproved commendations and honorables. He was a true dirt bag.

About a decade ago, while working 99 on mids, I helped a uniformed U.S. Postal police officer with an on-view arrest.

A few months later at 26th street, we were talking about our respective agencies, etc. I was shocked when he told me that when he makes a UUW arrest on postal property, his supervisor gets the credit and a bonus check as a result of the officer's good work. Now that's messed up!

Got a cousin who is Des Plaines PD: their base for their PPOs is way higher - they START at close to 60, and they get bumped up pretty fast to 70 and up - within 3 years, I believe. That's base. Plus he says OT is not really an issue with their DEPT, and least not as much as some other dept's. Says Chief Prandini is a stand up guy - very well-respected in the community and Department alike, and this story just goes to prove it. Not sure about the laterals though, but a lot of 'burbs will take a look at you if they're hiring and you've got a clean file.

Yo, you are wrong about the cash incentives, but to post what you did to find out how many feds read this blog was a good idea by your part. The cash incentives run more on the "where and who" you work. Sorta like a copper in 022 getting a DC for an arrest where a copper in 007 would get a Honorable for the same CB number. It happens. Stop listening to your buddy in SSG, they are like anyone else who could not become a Fed agent, they complain about the agents having it better. Yes, Weis is a punk bitch just like much of the pussies in the Feds.

A white shirt theory of management. Do something right and nothing is said. Do something wrong and quickly they are in your face. JFLED will not acknowledge good police work. Where are the commanders of 023 and 024? Why didn't the D/C of area 3 speake up about the arrest? Where is ernie brown? It took a suburban chief to acknowledge the arrest. It's too weird.

This is so totally modern, I mean, like, wow, you know? Like, the terrorists might have a Facebook page? And you can track them like that?

I think the word I'm looking for here is "overspecialized." That's always unhealthy.

If there's trouble, send me a Gurkha.

As one writer put it, "my thoughts return to you who were my comrades, the stubborn and indomitable peasants of Nepal. Once more I hear the laughter with which you greeted every hardship. Once more I see you in your bivouacs or about your fires, on forced march or in the trenches, now shivering with wet and cold, now scorched by a pitiless and burning sun. Uncomplaining you endure hunger and thirst and wounds; and at the last your unwavering lines disappear into the smoke and wrath of battle. Bravest of the brave, most generous of the generous, never had country more faithful friends than you."

Here, a modern-day photo -- the very definition of the word "watchful."

"Two Singapore Police Force's Gurkha Contingent troopers guarding
a car park entrance to Raffles City where the 117th IOC Session
was held in Singapore in July 2005. Dressed in their combat uniform, but with elements borrowed from the no. 3 dress, armed with a Remington 870 while the other handles a Heckler & Koch MP5."

It's inspirational.

If you are talking about the roach motel at 67pl and Stony I was part of it, had the paper in fact. Capt. Frank Sautkus was acting commander who found all of the stashed award nominations. He called me in (because I wrote the GO case) and told me that because they were not submitted (by Sames) within the required time frame HQ denied the Life Saving Awards.
To his credit, Frankie did give Honorables for the incident.

From what I heard, Commander of 024 was in station after incident and gave kudos to the officers involved. He too is a class act. D/C also showed up to give his support. Ernie Brown sent out kudos as well. Still would've been nice to hear our supe say something rather than nothing

Our boss(aka J-Fled) would never tell one of his own guys, "good job." He will only go on TV to talk about what a bad job a copper has done long before the facts are out. What a sad time for the CPD under this goof. Hope for change and better times.

Maybe because no rules were broken by the officers in 024? WTF!

A3 Dep Chief is busy protecting the 2nd watch desk position ("inventory officer") of a female with so called "back problems" who is working the desk while on limited duty.

Good Job by 24 for catching this douche bag. It's also nice to hear word that an official investigation is going to be made against officers involved in "Pursuing" the offender through Evanston and Northwestern Campus. Cops taking suspension days for giving out the location of where the suspect is headed sounds pretty fair.....what a joke.
