Ballots are Arriving

Vote damnit.

Do some research, talk to your coworkers, get behind some candidates. Then when it's all over, stand behind the leadership, attend some meetings and see if we can't protect the things we've negotiated for over the years.

It's going to be more important than ever very shortly.

We need to band together as City Employees and vote against this little arrogant prick. He basically is saying he doesnt need the Police and Fire Dept's vote because he is relying on the Northside liberals to vote him into office. We collectively do not need another midget dictator in City Hall to steal from our pension and give his Washington buddies city contracts. Some people need to get over that Chico was Daleys Chief of Staff. How long ago was that;20years ago???? I got my Chico for Mayor signs today and will display them proudly. He is the lesser of all evils in this Mayoral race.BTW the Shields team still do not know who they endorse for mayor two weeks before the election, pretty sad..A/2 PO.

Shields and his father run security for "General Iron" scrapyard in 018. The owner, Howard Labkon, is a major contributor to Rahm.

Madigan open to discussing cuts in
state pensions

BY DAVE MCKINNEY AND STEPHEN DI BENEDETTO Sun-Times staff Reporters Feb 9, 2011 04:53AM

SPRINGFIELD — The top House Democrat delivered potentially sobering news Tuesday to the state workforce, saying for the first time publicly that he’s open to a discussion about scaling back existing state workers’ pensions thought to be sacred under Illinois’ Constitution.

The comments by House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) set the stage for a contentious spring showdown in the Legislature with the state’s largest public-employee unions, who have vowed to go to the mat to protect retirement benefits for tens of thousands of existing government workers.
---

http://www.suntimes.com/news/3725598-417/madigan-open-to-discussing-cuts-in-state-pensions.html

All can get cut apparently except for Madigan himself and his buddies and of course no cuts for Richard M Daley, arch-criminal, and Daley's THREE pensions totaling in excess of $300,000 a year!

But you police officers? Your pensions will get cut because the City can't afford to pay your pensions in spite of so called rock solid constitutional guarantees.

Even if we get it in writing, which we have, the fucking good for shit City of Chicago will not honor it's commitments.

The City behaves like a goddamned shithead crack head father of twelve from the ghetto when it comes to keeping commitments.

We need more marches on City Hall with a walk over to the State of Illinois Building to cap it off. We need at THOUSANDS down there, Local 2 Firefighters too and as many other City unions as can be mustered.

We need to shut downtown down, so far there has been no united show of displeasure from us all. fucking lawmakers shit all over us and all we do is meekly give our endorsement to one or the other good for shit candidate.

We need to GET FUCKING MAD! And let the entire fucking State of Illinois see!

There were riots reported around the world in France when they wanted to raise the retirement age a couple of years.

Here, they want to raise the retirement age to near death and cut retirement income to the bone and we sit at our computers and type in a fucking blog!

WE NEED TO ACT!

We make fund of France and tell French jokes Ha Ha the French workers had the balls to virtually shut the goddamned country down when their retirement was threatened.

We seem to be passively taking it in the ass and doing nothing.

FUCK THIS SHIT! I DIDN'T WORK GODDAMNED NEAR 30 YEARS TO HAVE SOME THIN LIPPED SHANTY IRISH COCK SUCKERS STEAL MY PENSION!

WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING!

ARE YOU LISTENING SHIELDS? IF ELECTED, YOU BETTER FUCKING SHOW SOME GODDAMNED FUCKING BALLS AND GET EVERY GODDAMEND UNION EFFECTED TO SHOW SOME BALLS AND GET MAD AS HELL!

FUCK DALEY!
FUCK MADIGAN!
FUCK EMANUEL!

Madigan setting the stage for Rahm to change pensions.
In todays Sun Times Madigan was quoted as saying,"You've already changed it going forward, But now we are working on bills that would change it midstream. A state worker would be told "All right, you have a state benefit package up to today. Starting tomorrow, it's going to be a different deal." If Rahm gets in we are screwed. I can't believe that all the city and state woes are due to our pensions. This is the biggest smoke screen I have ever seen and the public is bying it. The polls are showing Rahm in the lead. Why won't our unions tell the truth that the leeches with Govt cell phones, wick and a host of other programs are sucking us dry. Why is there no talk of cutting these programs. I say I will do the job I am paid to do, pay me less I will do less and when the animal comes knocking I will be with my family. You are on your own. ask Rham to protect you with all that property tax money he saved you. Don't you know that will not fund pensions or police it will be used for social programs and when the music stops, the animal will be set free with no police to protect you. Think about that...This Mayoral election is the most important for us in years. Get out and vote and make sure you family votes as well!

Same here. I voted for the OTHER bunch of people. What I can't understand is you had 600 people involved with the behaviorial program fiasco. It's not like it was ten, or twenty, but 600. The City of Chicago sent out letters of apology admitting fault clearly having violated all the officers civil rights. Now anyone else that had there rights violated in the City of Chicago, Cook County and the State of Illinois had lawyers getting their cients millions of dollars. Not the FOP. The FOP sat on there hands clearly in cahoots with the City of Chicago. Clearly a corrupt union.

The key here is to vote. Don't let that ballot sit on your table! There are good people on both tickets, vote for who you think will do a better job, not who your buddies are or who you went to the academy with, but who has the best interest of the men and women of the Dept.

Keep in mind, this election will affect Sgts, Lt's and Capt's as well. The city always goes with the pay increase negotiated with FOP for the rest of the Dept contracts, so those that still are members of FOP and can still vote, vote for those that will make the best choices.

My ballot is split, as there are people on both sides that I think will do right by everyone. My prediction is a few from Bella's camp, and a few from Shields camp. I pray that they will work together for everyone

Lot of talk about in with the new and time for a change etc.As always for coppers, don't appreciate what has been gained or kept but focus on and bitch about what we think was lost or given away. Well we see how that worked out for the country with the hope and change President and Democrats. Glad I'm leaving soon because I dread the thought of the inexperienced new blood that is coming to the FOP and the enemy, being Rahm and crew that is coming to this city. I fear this is the end of times as we old timers knew them on this job and for all of us,new guys, old guys and retired we are about to be crushed and when Rahm and crew are finished this job will never be worth having again. I'll be retired when the next FOP election comes up but I'll bet it will be the same old bitching no matter who the FOP crew is. We will never have a good contract and real protection until we become members of an actual Union that is sanctioned and a member of the AFL-CIO like the firefighters. Until then we will be a beer drinking boy's club looking for good spots no matter who gets voted in.

TO the people that just voted for Change.... that worked out well with Obama didn't it? While I beleive it it is time to shake things up, wiping the slate clean is not the way. A balance between the two groups and independents might be the way to go. Remeber our contract expires next January and we do want some people around to keep what we have already gotten and to get us as many benefits as possible under the new mayor. Just don't vote Change. Vote in an intelligent manner and do what you think is right. I have spoken with both groups (Bella & Shields) about different issues and both groups have some good ideas. The Shields team has some younger guys on it that have no clue about contractual issues. They also have some really good guys that want to help out everyone. Good Luck to whoever wins, but always remember that we are the ones that vote you in.

I had to split my ticket too. I just could not vote for anyone who works for J-Fled. That’s why they did not want Unit Numbers next to their names on the ballot. And can anyone come up with one thing the bottom of the old guard ticket have done in the last six years? There are too many do nothings on the old guard ticket for Trustee and Sgt. at Arms. Why do we need 17 trustees? Mike needed to get a qualified group of people a lot sooner then he did. How many of his people were Unit Rep’s or just did the 5 meetings for one minute a piece? Many of those people only came into the meeting signed the book and left! And wasn’t Cap thrown out of the office for being lazy? Very sad these are the best of the best?

That’s why I had split my vote.

If any of you saw what BOTH of the Madigan’s are doing the last two day’s (Burge pension and change pensions for existing workers) you have to do more than just vote in the general election for mayor. If the Teacher’s Union can stack up the gallery in the Legislature we must now become a political force too. Why can’t we bus down at least 50 old retired farts for every important vote? Get walkers all of them even for the ones that do not need it.

Please drag every family member and friend to the polls. 38 extra extra short has all ready said he plans to change our pensions. Now Madigan says it is open and on the table too!

If anyone is max’d you got to think about going asap or the Madigan’s are going to stick it up yours w/o luberman.

I think you have to go with the lesser of two evils.

From a taxpayer perspective, I would probably vote for Rahm because he is going to cut the unions and their hold on the city. There is too much waste in the pension system.

The only problem is that he will also try to institute some new taxes on me. We don't need new taxes - we need new companies coming in and offering real jobs.

So from looking at Rahm from that angle - he is bad for the average citizen and business owner. Overall, not a good choice.

I am not sure how great Chico would be but at least he served some time in some of the positions in Chicago. Could he work out? He (and anyone else) will face the same challenges as Rahm would. Is he a compromiser? Rahm does not seem to be.

Hard decision when the field of candidates are so bad.

I AM voting.

This is an election where if you stay home, don't come on the BLOG whining that one guy or the other got in - or Carol M. Braun got in.

I'm sticking with the Citywide team. The economy is in terrible shape and the FOP went into arbitration and received a pay raise. To me, that's a good return. Ask the private sector about their pay raises; they're non-existent.

The economy is in a Great Depression II. Bella and his group are experienced in what they can and cannot get from the city. I don't think this is the time to make changes. Not with shithead Rahm right around the corner(I apologize to all you other shitheads out there for including Rahm into your clique, but at this moment I can't think of another word to describe him).

Another reason is Tom Pleines: He's done fantastic work with grievances; I had personal experience with this in dealing with an insane sergeant (no, it wasn't AZ!).

I am a memeber of the FOP. For those of you looking if there's "Phil Schitz" on CPD, there isn't. I use an alias to protect me. My moniker of "Phil Schitz here", is pronounced as "Phil shits here". May God help any numbskull who really believed I was an "Ace Reporter"!

A long read, my apologies in advance...

There's a TON of people talking smack about who's running in this race, namely those on Shields' ticket.

They're crying about the candidate's average time on the job. They're crying about some of the ticket being assigned to "cushy" units. They're crying about a lot of things they DON'T have the slightest clue or idea about.

Time to dispel a few rumors & myths:

#1 - Shields will be "double-dipping" between being Pension Board Trustee if elected President of FOP.

ANSWER: Wrong. Mike doesn't receive any compensation above his 9161 pay rate (Patrolman) for being Pension Trustee. He ran for that position because he saw a need for reform in how our pension issues and OUR MONEY were being handled.

Mike was the only trustee that encouraged & subsequently voted FOR an investigation into who were the "chosen" recipients of our pension dollars. His efforts to root out the less-than-legitimate, "business as usual" attitude in this facet of our very future and livelihood was rewarded with the threat of legal sanctions by those he called-out (Stephanie Neely) after catching them in unethical relationships.

Mike wasn't and isn't afraid to ruffle feathers and make waves when it comes to safeguarding OUR money. He also went public with Ron Huberman's attempt to back-door his way into our pension fund. Same goes for Weis, Brust, Maters and O'Keefe. Mike has made some unpopular decisions that many wouldn't dare for fear of retaliation. The same can't be said for the current regime. While they may have known what was going on, they DIDN'T ACT ON THE INFORMATION THEY HAD. I'd be willing to bet they wish they had - it just might have yielded returns at the polls on 04 March 2011.

In short, this is just one instance where the current leaders of our union left the best interests of the rank and file at the curb. They subsequently tried to "put perfume on a pig" by saying they forgave the 23 million dollars stolen by Daley's nephew Vanecko as partial payment for a better work schedule/compression...this is something that should've been negotiated WITHOUT a 23 million "security deposit".

#2 - Candidates on the Shields Team ticket are lawyers that prosecute police officers and then recommend penalties during the "punishment phase" of the internal police investigation.

ANSWER: Wrong. Jim McCarthy and Terry Collins work in Legal Affairs. They work, specifically, to REPRESENT officers that are the subject of "beefs" and lawsuits. They are in no way involved in any capacity whatsoever in the recommendation or handing-down of punishment versus accused officers.

#3 - The Shields Team is going to send a lawyer to your police shooting, which would make the involved officer(s) give an immediate statement to the Officer In Charge, potentially putting an officer in the "trick bag".

ANSWER: Wrong. The Shields Team, if elected, consists of three (3) HGS detectives that will be assigned to any officer-involved shooting. In the unlikely event none of these three gentlemen are available, another representative will be sent out. That representative may or may not be an attorney. However, anyone that is sent out to the scene of a police shooting will arrive IN THE CAPACITY OF AN FOP REPRESENTATIVE. The possibility that this representative may also be an attorney is nothing more than an added benefit in the event legal issues need to be addressed at a later time regarding such incidents.

Question is Daniel Shields related to Mike Shields?

Is Jim Bailey allowed in the wind with those ears?

Aguilar find a personality yet?

Harold Brown and Al Jag? Give me a break! If I would not work with these guys why would I vote for them?

Muuzpappa is Siser's partner? Here I thought Siser ran it too!

Didn't we vote Bullock out last time?

Are McDonagh, Shogren, and Skelly still alive?

Is Ed King a Stepford husband? Hello anyone home? Are there any brain waves in there?

Rick King find his dog yet.?

Garza and Richardson fighting at the door over the same bottle of Boone's Farm?

Who are J-Pud's dollies?

Is Sid Davis a pigmy?

Wasn't Trevino deported?

God Help us!!!! I do not want to vote for either ticket. Can we do a do over?

#4 - Members of the Shields Team have "cushy" spots that were obtained by clout.

ANSWER: The two (2) aforementioned candidates (McCarthy and Collins) worked in, what's considered by many, the worst two districts while going to graduate and law school. Jim in 011 and Terry in 007. No officer should be faulted for obtaining extensive education that can subsequently be applied towards the betterment of the working conditions of the fellow law enforcement brothers and sisters. And "cushy" spots is open to interpretation; there's a lot of other units many might argue are plenty more "cushy" and "clout heavy". Also, one of our candidates, Damon Stewart, has been reassigned from his "cushy" spot at the Training Academy to 004 mid-campaign without a valid explanation (coincidence??? I say not). Additionally...Mike Shields was ELECTED by his fellow officers to his current "cushy" Patrolmen's pay spot of Pension Board Trustee. No middle of the night phone call to a "Chinaman" to get his spot.

Some facts and statistics also need to be brought to the attention of the readers of SCC:

Of the approximate 11,000 current FOP members eligible to run for any FOP position in this year's election, ONLY 90 or so met the requirement(s) to do so. Many people will talk a big game about how things are or should be done, but the numbers speak volumes of who will actually step-up and try to make a difference. Please don't take this as criticism - there are a myriad of reasons people aren't involved in the union.

Participation in YOUR union through a more welcoming, open & transparent union leadership is just one of the goals we'll set into motion if elected. Participation beyond blindly voting every 3 years is crucial to your future. People MUST get involved if they want things different in the future.

Please feel free to check our websites (www.shieldsfop7.org AND www.mikeshieldsfop7.blogspot.com) to view our extended platform as well as our biographies. An informed voter is a smart voter; as SCC stated - do some research, talk to your coworkers and get behind some candidates. This FOP election is probably the most important that I can remember since I came on the job - and not just because I'm a candidate. Regardless of where your research and/or loyalties lead you, please be sure to vote. Again, this is a VERY important election.

Our mayor-in-the-wings has made it abundantly clear what his plan for OUR pension entails. We need an FOP that isn't afraid to ask the hard question or bring to light the less-than-legitimate dealings to which a majority of taxpayers have accepted as the norm. We need someone well-versed in pension law and the intricacies that surround the many tangents that go along with it. Mike Shields and his team are the ones most prepared for this monumental fight. With the exception of the retirees on our ticket, the majority of us are here for many years to come - win or lose. The decisions we'll make and the things we'll fight for will directly effect us as well as current and future members.

Finally, many of you have witnessed firsthand or hopefully have been told by friends and coworkers that during this campaign, the Shields Team hasn't resorted to the usual "mud slinging" and name-calling that usually accompanies most elections. We have also supported our platform and roll call addresses with factual material, not lies and vicious rumors that have been regularly employed by our competition. Hopefully, the officers casting their ballots will see that our demeanor throughout this process has been above-board. This is the exactly the same type of representation that you can expect from us should we be honored by representing you as your next FOP union leaders.

Thanks for your time (and thank you, SCC, for the forum)

Glen P. Popiela - 011th District - 3rd Watch

Hey 12:48 AM

Why would Shields Team openly endorse a candidate for mayor. They are not representing our union...YET. They were smart to not open their mouths when it wasn't their place to do so. Shields Team fight will be for our pension, and that's what we need to be concerned about seeing the Rahm was pretty much preordained out next Mayor, and we all know it. Team Shields can endorse the next mayor.

Our current union has the responsibility of mayoral endorsement, which is funny all by itself seeing that Donahue WOULDN'T tell us who the membership voted to endorse at the FOP general meeting just one day prior to making it known via the media who "we" picked to endorse.

Again, FOP kept it's members in the dark, instead choosing to let Chico know first, the media second and us little guys THIRD. The guys they are supposed to represent were left in the dark...AGAIN.

So all this makes doing my "homework" for this election that much easier. Shields Team it is, and I suggest others look at Mike & his crew before they fill out their ballot...these guys are good and they are sincere. I have faith that they'll be 100% better that three more years of the goofs that have already been in there 9 years. Time for change is right. Bella and company can change back into uniform and go push a beat car from now on.

The CWT are all nice guys and are good atr running picnics and golf outings. Counting their tenure with Bill Nolan, they have been around for 18 years. During that time, they dropped the ball big time in regards to our pension funding. The pension wasn,t even an issue until Mike Shields csme on the scene and lit a fire under them. We need to be more of a union and less of a social club. The Shields Team is the way to go.

If you think you can do a better job, have at it. at least this group of people were able to come together, construct a format that they believe in, organize and orchestrate roll call visits and all the other little and no-so-little things that are part and parcel to a thing like running for office. I heard they pooled all the costs out of pocket - they didnt take cash from their lawyer buddies like a certain OTHER ticket. most of them have families, too if I hear right. Im sure some go to court or work side jobs. all this shows me is that these people are focused and care about what they want to do to protect our jobs. so before you open your mouth, try to get involved with YOUR union and do the same next time election time rolls around.

Mike’s ticket is short a spot for Sgt. At Arms. Had Mike not waited to the last minute to handpick his ticket he would not have been turned down so much. A lack of south siders because of that. People who might have said yes two months earlier said no because they smelled desperation. Many people did not want to be on the same ticket with Harold Brown or Al Jaglowski either. I split the top of my ballot and only voted for a couple of trustees from either ticket . None of the Sgt. At Arms from either. Too many people from either ticket and they will all be doing a reach around in the shower. This way everyone will be showering with their backs to the wall watching everyone else.

Is it true that McCarthy and Whelehan made asses of themselves at the candidates meeting when they wanted to take the unit numbers off the ballot? Is she one of those who are too busy to attend meeting and signs the book and leaves? It is shame Mike could not find better people with Aguliar and Capparelli being useless. If Mike wanted to be president he should have never ran for the pension board. That’s the major reason the older half of the people on the job have pause voting for him.

I hate Ozzie from the White Sox but I would not replace him with his son either. The lesser of two evils I guess.

complaining about Mikes shields experience and too young of a team. Well citywide has had no experience standing up to daley machine. Mike Shields has stood up in the past and called them out repeatedly over the last few years with his work at the pension board. He Also he did it without an arbitrator and a room full of lawyers. So Mike has really more experience fighting the machine than all the citywide team put together.

Also maybe I want someone who is younger and have more energy to fight this fight. This will be a long hard fight that I don't even know if we can stop.

Our unions lack of interest in getting our pension funded and pointing out the truth to the public has made this fight so much harder.

Sometimes experience of 9 years might get you too comfortable and friendly with the city to fight the type of fight that we need to initiate to protect our pension. We are past taking the gloves out for nice little boxing match and now we need to be to the level of no holding back ultimate fighting . You don't send a 50-60 year old in the ring in an ultimate fighting match. You just don't win.

The pension wasn,t even an issue until Mike Shields csme on the scene and lit a fire under them. We need to be more of a union and less of a social club. The Shields Team is the way to go.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

BE careful what you wish for.

And if Mike would actually stand up and tell the truth = it was Bill Dougherty that brought the Huberman info to Mike. He did so because Mike is the Pension Bd. rep and that is his job as the pension bd rep.

complaining about Mikes shields experience and too young of a team.

I have to ask Mike Shields one question. Why were you not in Springfield fighting for our pension? Why have you not improved the funding of our pension fund? Finish the job you said you were going to do at the pension fund. Then I'll vote for you as FOP President.

-- My father was never a Commander. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant and worked as a Lietenant in 010, in Internal Auditing as an Inspector and retired out of 001 (midnight watch commander / field Lieutenant)in 2002.

-- I have NEVER attended an FOP meeting where I walked in and just signed the book and walked out. NEVER.

-- Yes, I stood up at the candidates meeting at FOP in January and questioned why we were listing unit designations after candidates names. This was NOT done in an effort to hinder transparency. It was done to highlight a simple fact:

FOP, much like the Dept, gives you a set of rules on paper and then operates by a different set of rules in reality. The rules of the election committee do not call for any unit designator after a candidates' name. The answer as to why this is done is the same old "this is the way it's always been done." Well, if that's the case, then change the rule. It is a simple concept. Put the rules on paper and have EVERYONE follow them.

And on that note, I will simply encourage everyone to VOTE. As has been said repeatedly, this is an extremely important election. Please take the time to send your ballot back - it needs to be in the PO Box by March 3rd.

We will never have a good contract and real protection until we become members of an actual Union that is sanctioned and a member of the AFL-CIO like the firefighters. Until then we will be a beer drinking boy's club looking for good spots no matter who gets voted in.

2/09/2011 09:41:00 AM

The firefighters have a good union. I would remind you that FOP arbitrated their contract. The Firefighters did not. They voted 8-1 to take what the FOP fought for. FOP did the heavy lifting. Go join CFD, ya shit talker.

Sorry to correct you. But During law school Mccarthy worked in the fighting first district. And while still assigned to 001 worked at city hall. So yes he did use his "chinaman" to get his cushy spot. Mainly his relative that was a former Deputy. Then he used his "chinaman" to get his cushy spot at legal affairs. Which you forgot to mention pays SGts pay. Even though hes a patrolman. Hes still a good guy. But enough with the lies.

I know most of you have been out of the police game for quite some time so I can give you a quick refresher course,... when you rip on and tell lies about your competition you need to allow some time to go buy between posts and changing wording and flow also helps to make people think more than just one (MAYBE two) of you are responsible for the nonsense crap you let loose here and on DSLC. You boys (Richie A. I'm talking to YOU) at FOP should also know not to run your mouths in front of just anyone about things you put on diffrent blogs and talk strategy on how you plan to slander certain people via lies. Tread lightly, boys. There's some people who have unlimited time, unlimited resources and plenty of support to make examples of you above and beyond getting you voted out of office this time around. Keep it above the belt lest the rest of the CItywide Dirt be delivered front and center...AND YOU KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT (L.D.F./J.B. RING A BELL??) - Signed - KMA & almost retired

If retired members want to run for FOP, I do not see any reason why 1 or 2 cannot hold a spot. After all, they too have been where we are today, and some were on this job when there was no union. I personally think that their experience will be an asset. And yes, retirees still belong to the union and pay a yearly dues. Remember girls and boys...God willing we will be there someday, and I'm sure we will want someone to share our interest. This pension debacle will effect both actibe and retirees.

You can not have two masters. Megan Whelehan did more to hurt the Shields ticket with her conduct at the candidates meeting and the last general meeting then her pedigree did. I witnessed the later and heard about the earlier temper tantrum. I understand why they did not want unit numbers on the ballot. I can not vote for people who work for J-Fed or Kirby.

Mike’s card in his mailer states he wants to set up a liaison office inside J-Fled’s. Since these people have already sold their souls to the 5th floor will we be getting a heads up on them or are they getting a heads up on us?

Split your tickets among both groups. There are also some good people running as independents. Even a few retirees. But they are not the cronies on the City-wide Ticket or the rejects that Mike had to settle for on his ticket. At least we know that they will not be working down the hall for J-Pud. Please do not vote for Harold Brown or Al Jaglowski. But if you want the city to have spies at FOP just vote Mike’s ticket straight line without doing your homework.

I am not running for anything nor have I ever. I was a watch rep and my partner a unit rep by default. I am leaving 15 Nov. But this Madigan thing has gotten me somewhat concerned. I can leave anytime I want without getting hurt. So I am monitoring everything from Springfield. If you do not get involved you have nothing to complain about.

I can’t believe that shield’s team has Dean Angelo on it with 4 years on the job.

i believe NONE of Shields ticket members fathers were commanders. Shields, def NOT. Curry, def NOT. McCarthy, not sure. either way, what does that have to do with whats going on NOW?????? these people are all adults - highly educated and CPD tenured adults at that. their accomplishments speak for themselves. and people ripping on King cuz his dog ran away a few times. hows that HIS fault??? theres no correlation btwn a man's being and an animal that freaks out from weather conditions (or whatever made the pooch go crazy).

My vote and the vote of everyone I know is going to the best options we have before us at the moment - and that option is Mikes Team.

The Shields Team Megan Whelehan Curry does nothing for the E.T. Unit now, all of a sudden she is going to step up and do stuff for all FOP members. She currently shows a lack of respect for her peers and supervisors and this is going to change if she becomes Second Vice President? She can care less about who she helps instead she is more worried about padding her resume. She does know as Second Vice President her daddy (former boss) and family members won’t be able to get things done for her the way they do now. Like all the preferential treatment she gets because her father is friends with Lt. R.D. in Forensics Services. What preferential treatment you ask? You know all the training that should be available to everyone but the least senior officers gets because they have a phone call. (Right Mrs. E.R.T.) Days in a Unit she is almost last in seniority in. This while others spend most of their career on afternoons and midnight’s waiting till they have the seniority to get on days because management spots are filled up by arrogant officers with a phone call like her and not by hard working officers. Basically she represents everything most of us despise. Not to mention I am sure she is in favor of the merit promotion system that we all love since her husband was made meritorious Sergeant 2 classes ago. I know people will say “he’s a great guy and he deserved it” I am sure it had nothing to do with who he is related to because Superintendent JFled’s merit system is legit just ask her.

He was referring to Mike S. not having Chinaman to get HIS spot, he didnt mention anything about Jim's spot...theres ALOT of people on the job that are compensated at higher pay grades for their education backgrounds and for doing work above and beyond the normal duties expected to be preformed while in patrol...just like FTOs, out of grade po's as Desk Sgts, etc, etc. If you had a law degree and the dept was using your law knowlege during your employment, youd take the extra cash too. so quit splitting hairs. i dont know him to testify as haveing a 'china man' so i wont comment, but dont put a guy down for being smart and having a connection. plus, if any of these guys were REALLY heavy, they would probably be sgts or lts by now. just saying

Are you salty that you weren't asked to run with us? Were you even eligible to run, or are you just another blowhard that likes to anonymously sound off on a blog?
You're gonna have to try A LOT harder than this to be an effective and believable slanderer some day. Stick with it, kid! These things don't happen overnight.

- "Anonymous Trustee" (just for now, because I'm smarter than you and have to sign-off like this).

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Mike did ask southsiders and retirees from the southside to be on his ticket. They just turned him down. They just ran as independents. It was not a case of disliking Mike just some of the other people he had to take to fill out his ticket.

You do get some golden nuggets of info here. McCarthy guarded CITY HALL while in one? Was at the Academy? And gets SGT’s PAY working for J-FLED? And he wants the keys to the Union Hall? ---- NO WAY NO HOW!

Unit Rep is supposed to attend meetings. Bet you got paid or reimbursed for the trips to State and National events?
So lets get this straight: you run for Unit Rep and get elected then come on here and brag or some might call it whine about all you've done?
Be honest you got reimbursed for your time. You are exactly what I expect from the Shields team. You want to get patted on the back for doing your job.

Bella is a champion. Give all credit due for the hard fought gains that his team has accomplished. The list is a long one. A young, inexperienced FOP is not what we need. We dont need that kind of "change

." The city wide team is made up of fellow officers who have participated, for "years" in the functions of our union by being watch reps,

I agree now is not the time, We have some BIG fights on our hands with the pension and the new leaders in congress trying to take it away, We can not afford a learning curve that takes years to master.

Shields and his ticket are the way to go,

Wrong on all accounts, these guys are inexperienced you'll loose what you have. The city will eat them for lunch- and Dinner. Shields has none nothing to help us on the pension board- Talk talk is all we get First he needs to show some action before he becomes President.
Keep in mind he knows nothing of the job, he has NEVER been a Rep do you really think he can just walk right in and do the job.

When he started at the pension board he had to be taken by the hand by another member. Keep in mind all the new Guys are just that new Guys never been there never done that. They fuck up we get fucked BIG TIME.

Pension Board becomes an UNPAID position upon transfer to Unit 541, FOP. City now pays Pension Board Rep PO's pay, that will cease if elected. the next Pension rep election is next year. A new rep will be elected then.

If this kid had anything on the ball why is he not in private practice? Why would J-Dork have this kid in his office if he was a threat? Because he is not a threat to J-Pud or Shortshanks because he already sold out. Three years ago a guy who worked for Burke also wanted unit numbers off the ballot too when he ran for president! He was a City Hall guard too. Sounds like the city is trying to worm in control of the union.

To all the membership do you want J-Fled’s lawyers as your 1st vice president or a trustee?

That’s not the best way to vote either. If you do that we will wind up with people I would not let walk my dog {(woof woof,) that one was too easy to pass up!) } Dic’s vote for Dic’s, Patrol votes for Patrol, and Retirees vote for Retirees. No one votes for anyone at HQ.

This election is important, but we do need to clean up the house just don’t burn it down. I all ready sent my ballot in so I can’t name every name. To those who never got involved all most all of the important work at the FOP was done by the top three people. Most of the rest are hanger ons. My big problem is I like both Mike and Greg but I have major problem with the rest of their tickets. I wish I knew more of the people on Mike’s ticket but I do not because most of them only made the five meeting minium. At the same time most of the city-wide team has been around way too long. No happy median here.

To the retirees who log on to this site please do not vote for Podgorney any more. He has had the worst attendance at the board meetings of any other member. Mike Voight is a retired Sgt., but he tries to hide that. Al Jaglowski is on DPR and Harold Brown are both cancers on the organization. And the retirees on the city-wide ticket have all lost effectiveness. A lot of good people left since the last election please look for some new blood. We can use a few retirees on the board just send us different ones.

My team took our ballots and made photo copies of both sides. On the top seven spots we voted straight up, four won from the city-wide ticket and three from Mikes. For the rest of the ballot we lined out almost all of the people from the city-wide ticket and Mikes ticket because we could not vote for almost any of them. Then we lined out the rest of the people we knew that we could not vote for who were not on a ticket. With all of those people we knew between the 10 of us we could not come up with a consensus of 17 names for trustee and just barely came up with three names for sgt. at arms. We filled a few retirees but only those we worked with. That is an f*ing shame that 10 of us could not find 20 names - 17 for trustee and 3 for sgt. at arms - that just jumped out at you. A f*ing shame.

I have to ask Mike Shields one question. Why were you not in Springfield fighting for our pension? Why have you not improved the funding of our pension fund? Finish the job you said you were going to do at the pension fund. Then I'll vote for you as FOP President.

R U bid or management on days? Did McCarthy put you up to taking unit numbers off of the ballots? If not why R U not proud of where U work? Were U a merit promotion? Your dad was not an exempt member but did he have a gold star as an inspector? And a take home car?

See what happens when you talk at meetings w/o knowing what U R doing?

Keep Mike on the pension board and send these children back to kindergarten. And Mike never told us they FOP give him Luberman.

NOW I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD HOLD THEIR BALLOTS FOR AT LEAST A WEEK NOW TO SEE WHAT OTHER NEWS COMES OUT ON BOTH SIDES.

As Artie Johnson used to say on laugh in very interesting!

2/10/2011 10:29:00 AM

1. Retirees will be presented on the board because they vote, but I think they should be limited to the number of positions they hold.

2. The top seven spots have to be full timers at FOP.

3. We have 17 trustee positions. That’s too many. We should cut out at least six. Too many of those in office already act retired. We already have a lot of retirees running for those spots. If it stays at 17 then the max should be 3 retired. I still think that should be full timers too. But we need only 11 of those spots not 17.

4. Sgt. At Arms is a ceremonial position but only one retiree signed up for that. Maybe those three positions should be earmarked for retirees in the future. All we need is three old guys. Let them chair the fishing, golf, and picnic committees they have a lot of time for that stuff now and sit on the pension committee.

The rest should be people who actually work in beat cars or as dic’s in the field. Never vote for someone from J-Puds office either. An office Dic or an office rat in a district is the same as someone from the HQ too.

Stay safe!
