Rahm Admonishes the Help
- Chicago's Fraternal Order of Police and the state's largest public service workers union came out Friday afternoon with stern statements admonishing Rahm Emanuel over a new television ad.
In the spot, dubbed "Service," Emanuel vows to be mindful of taxpayers' wallets.
"We're going to deliver a service to the taxpayers. We're going to get them the best price for what they pay for," Emanuel says in the ad. "And that means making sure that everyone that works for the city government knows that they're actually a public servant representing and helping the people that pay them."
It's four words in that phrase -- "actually a public servant" -- with which the groups take issue.
After five police line of duty deaths and three firefighter line of duty deaths, we don't think we need a lecture from Rahm Emanuel about "service" or anything else for that matter. And the crack about "get[ting] them (taxpayers) the best price for what they pay for" reeks of insincerity.
First up, we are taxpayers. In fact, we probably pay more in taxes than most of the people we serve. And for our troubles, we will shortly be paying around 12% of our salaries into an underfunded pension that if we're lucky, may provide us with 50% of our pay after 20 years - assuming it exists by then.
And we're lectured by an asshole who preaches "public servants" shouldn't be using their connections to enrich themselves while collecting hundreds of thousands from Freddie Mac while attending 6 meetings a year as the mortgage industry dragged the economy into the ground, not to mention the millions from his ComEd work, none of which had anything to do with "connections" we're sure.

For my entire lifetime, "service to one's country" has been a phrase used to refer to members of the armed services, not to office workers on the public tit.
These same Emanuel ads keep hammering at Emanuel's "service to his country." Those weren't our armored vehicles he was cleaning...

One day last weekend Rambo came to the house and rang the door bell several times. The men where eating after several rings one of them answered the door. Rambo came in and started screaming and hollering why they did not answer the bell right away. He asked them if they were sleeping. He then asked them if they liked driving their fancy cars. He told then that he was going to increase the city taxes by 90% and blame it on the GREEDY FIREMEN AND POLICEMEN. He then told them when he gets elected to mayor he is going to have several surprises for them and they are not going to like it. A short time later the house got a call from the men at the house at Madison and Laflin. Rambo went in there and told them the same thing but added that he got had few surprises for those GREEDY FIREMAN AND POLICEMEN who are on pension.
If you are interested, there is going to be a fund raiser for Chico at Bourban Street on 115th Street. It is only for the police and firemen. I think it is $25.00 all you can drink and eat. A friend of mine John Kinnane is helping running it.

One of the Firefighters was sharing that Rahm Emanuel was stopping by all the Fire Houses to speak with the Firefighters.
Emanuel stopped at his Chinatown (Engine 8 - Truck 4 - Batt 2) Fire House.
When the Firefighters brought up the "pension"....they were told

Maybe he meant it for others as well, such as the people who work in other city departments who you can't even understand and are bothered when you call them as if you are calling them at home. I have called many city departments and the main goal of most is to get people off the phone. Those people definitely need to be reminded they are servants.

Why not talk about the number of aldermen, their salaries, allowances, etc. Afterall, they are part-time "public servants", right?
Why not talk about, someone honest, closely monitoring future construction projects contracted by the City and ensure the bidder's proposals are accurate with no "hidden costs" etc?
Why not talk about cutting the waste associated with all the failed, inefficient social programs? Let parents raise their children and not the government. The "throw more money at the problem" mindset accomplishes nothing but more wasted revenue. Make people more accountable for themselves and their actions. People will eventually pull themselves up by their own boot straps.
Why not talk about ways to incresae revenue, through tourism, attracting businesses, land based casinos, streamlining government, etc. etc. etc.
I know that over the years this "public servant" has been sooooo selfish, thinking about HIMself and HIS family. I now know that I must pay back the taxpayers who have been so supportive of me financially and otherwise. These taxpayers were virtually with me as I worked in the heat, cold, rain, and snow. As I responded to calls to rat and roach infested apartments filled with hate for the police. As I worked odd hours, weekends, and holidays away from my family. Wall street Journal has an article which states that the mayor of Detroit is offering cash incentives for the police officers to move back into the city. Article states that since residency ended 10 years ago by state law, 1/2 of cops have moved out. He thinks that when the cops live in the city, crime will go down. This does not bode well for the end to residency in Chicago.

Carol Marin Interviewed Mayoral Candidate Carol Mosely Braun on Chicago Tonight last night. At about 8:20 of the interview, CMB says "We're spending TONS of money defending John Burge. Why? This is crazy". She goes on to say that Burge collecting his pension "is incredible and VERY wrong", she calls him a "sadist", and shares that a Fireman friend of hers heard the "screams" at night coming from that Police Department where Burge worked!

Oh, so you've got that "trampled-on" feeling too, have you? Laying there stunned, wondering where those footprints right up your front came from?
Emanuel has what is called chutzpah. It's extremely unpleasant.
He went on TV after this to smooth it over, to "explain" to the population -- "I meant that we are all public servants, I am a public servant, and we all are accountable to the public -- we have to make sure the taxpayers get their money's worth," etc.
The TV audience didn't see him interrupting the firemen's hard-won meal time to abuse and threaten them -- and the next thing you know, when there is a camera around, the lizard changes color and gets busy pretending to push a police car out of the snow.

As long as the city treats its employees poorly, the employees will treat everyone else (including each other) poorly.

Ballerina-Boy's commercial is about privatization. He'll start with garbage collection, street cleaning, sewer construction, and move on to ambulance service, fire-fighting, lockups, and law enforcement.

The r-man that I see most of the time does a good job. I know he is a highly paid worker, but you know what, he does a fair amount of work and he gets it done. He doesn't bitch about working in the cold and is always in good spirits. You tell hom something needs fixing and not a bit of, "aaww shit, I gotta do what?" He just gets to it.

Hmmmm 40 or so an hour comes to about 80,000 per year. If the info posted here is correct 115,000 per year is the lowest captain pay. The electrician is 35,000 or so under the lowest paid capt. Throw in 24 furlough days and the electrician is down to about 63,000. Something doesn't add up. If you wanted to become an electrician you should have just gone out and done it. Or you could have become a fireman and done both...lol...sorry I couldn't pass up a good nature jab at the CFD

This is taking on Urban Myth status. I have heard variations of this now involving three different firehouses and it is always a "close friend who is a firefighter." who told it to a
police officer/sgt/lt etc.
Is there a firefighter out there reading this who can confirm that this happened in your presence?
Not that I like Rahm, quite the opposite, I actually like the vicious rumor, if Rahm didn't say it, he should have.

interesting, though obvious to some, observation.
that 50% + 1 depends entirely on exactly how many votes are actually cast, (and, presumably, counted), so a large voter turnout does not favor the rahmbutt, no matter how widely distributed it may be amongst the other contenders.
