Injured Recruit Returns

  • The call crackled over the police radio — a possible suspect was on foot a few blocks away on North Michigan Avenue, so Officer Daniel Vazquez, several other newly minted cops and their instructor took off running to help out.

Seven months ago, the chances of Vazquez being back in uniform and on the street like this seemed remote. In his final days of training last October, he was seriously injured when he was struck by a car after he stopped to help at a crash scene.
Three weeks in the hospital and three months of rehab from injuries that almost proved fatal.

Glad to see you back and glad to have the help.

I've got a recruit in the family who trained with this young man. That class has already had its share of heartbreak in their short tenure. I'm sure his return will be a real shot in the arm to all of them.

Welcome back!

Off topic:

What in God's name is a "community based Chaplain"? Just read the FOP bulletin and it sounds like they want to replace our chaplains with fake revs.

What a fucking joke. I've already told my wife not allow any of these new people anywhere near me if something should happen, call our parish priest.

God bless Fr. Nangle, Rabbi Wolff and all the other real clergy who minister to us.

What is going on in 023? Every night numerous people being shot at, two gangs at war, firebombing cars, etc. I know this is standard in the West and Southside but its getting out of control.

OT....but welcomed news!

A suspect linked to the recent string of attacks targeting teens in our area (022 Beverly area) was arrested last night and charged with armed robbery. Since the initial incidents, the Chicago Police Department has been working around the
clock to make an arrest.

Good job to all involved!

OT- I was at the Sox game Saturday afternoon and parked at headquarters. Saw the Supt pulling out of the lot in a beat up Crown Vic by himself! No driver with him! He even waved back at me when I waved to him! Seems down to earth. Iam cautiously optomistic w him.

When you waved at the supt did you also have your colorful hat on with the spinner on top if it. Wait, were you also sucking on a huge round sucker. Come on man up.

I am getting sick and tired of people talking about..."now go out there and get your one baggers and criminal trespass"..What the fuck is it to you? If someone wants to do that..let them...worry about yourself. Too much worrying about what everyone else is doing..Go fuck yourself!!

I don't get those arrests unless I need it for Safe City, but I could give two shits if someone else is doing it..too many whiners on this job...How about this, put the same amount of effort into working that you put into complaining...

Signed

Me too, optimistic that is. I'll give anyone a fair chance.

Maybe he was rooting for the Dodgers, he was born in Brooklyn.

I loved the retro unforms that both our teams wore this weekend. I long for the days when baseball players wore the unform correctly, with stirrup sock, sanis, legs folded up knicker style--this new way looks like shit.

The NHL, NBA and (especially) the NFL have strict uniform regulations, why doesn't MLB?
