Another example(in a never ending stream of examples) of why you need to master the weapon that you carry. Regardless of make and model, you need to master every aspect of not only firing but cleaning, oiling and maintenance. If you are not good at this, seek out someone who is and get help with this.

OFF TOPIC:

First, I am glad that the Officers involved are okay and I wish them well.

I ask that you keep the family, co-workers and friends of Paul N. from the Narcotics unit in your prayers. Tragically paul died from a heart attack he suffered yesterday.

Finally, please, officers, please go get yourself checked out. Our job entails that we deal with a lot of stress, and so it builds up, please, please go have a check up.

This is a sad day for us in 189, Paul was a truly a nice man.

O.T. I was at TARA today and I witnessed several officers being rude to the staff there. I just don't get it. Why can't we be courteous and polite to each other? Is it because we are "the police" and thus our ego is huge and we think we can get away with it? There is an old saying "it doesn't cost a lot to be polite. So I can afford to do that".

5/19/2011 04:44:00 PM

Funny, I was there and unless this happened on a break, no one was rude to any of the staff there.

I did hear there was a group (about 10 officers) who were at the door to the buidling a few minutes BEFORE 0600 and the door was locked. Then a sgt came to the door and said the class was full and there was only a few seats remaining and he could only let a few people in? WTF. People do not randonmly go to these things, you are sent there by your unit?

People then switch their start times from mids or afternoons to attend, because it is only offered on days, and then are given shit because of SOMEONE elses fuck up? Why the fuck would anyonoe want to go to these traininigs when you show up and are told, sorry, no more seats available?

Do not know if all the PO's got in or if some had to deal with the situation with their districts but I am sure they could have fit them in the class.

I am also sure that there were some guys there who were not "scheduled" but then deal with them not the ones who are signed up. Better yet, who cares let everyone in for "training" cause we rarely get it. There was room.

Great training though but that building brings it down a few pegs because either 20 degrees to hot, like today, or 20 degrees to cold in the winter. You are wither falling asleep cause the heat or freeze in the winter cause of the cold.

Don't they understand that we're gonna shoot back? And we're not gonna cower or run away...we'll J-fled being the exception.
Remember boys & girls, once a gun is pointed at you its no longer moot, your in a gunfight, do what you gotta do & return to YOUR family at the end of the day.
Stay safe and take care...St. Michael watch over & protect us.

A 21-year veteran Chicago Police narcotics officer died this morning, a day after he was taken to a hospital complaining of chest pains while on duty, officials said.

The officer, Paul Nauden, 46, of the Scottsdale neighborhood on the Southwest Side, was pronounced dead at 6:15 a.m. at the University of Chicago Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The officer was on patrol Thursday afternoon when he began feeling ill and was taken to the hospital, said police spokesman Officer John Mirabelli. The narcotics officer was assigned to the police’s Homan Square facility, said Mirabelli, who wouldn’t confirm the officer’s name.

Later that evening, at a vigil for fallen officer Thomas Wortham IV, Chicago Police chaplain the Rev. Daniel Brandt led a prayer for Nauden.

Following his death, dozens of police officers from various districts gathered near the Hyde Park hospital in a show of unity and escorted the ambulance carrying his body to the medical examiner's office.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

To: Superintendent McCarthy
From: Patrol Division Officer
Subject: Department Improvements

I would like to use the blog to directly appeal to Supt. McCarthy on how to make improvements to our department.

My first suggestion is that he assign a member of his staff to monitor this blog for suggestions on how to improve morale and improve operations within this department.

This staff member should then cut and paste these suggestions and present them to the superintendent for discussion with the command staff citing the source as concerned members of the department speaking trough the blog because the chain of command does not work.

Finally, I think Supt. McCarthy should respond using his own name in order to open a frank discussion of the issues facing our department. Don't try using your own blog like the last failure did.

Welcome to our department and Godspeed .

You said it right....Police officers wear ballistic protection, firearms, tasers, asps...and yet, the
hostile public seems to always seek a violent
confrontation with the Police. PLEASE be careful
out there, there is no respect for our profession.
Be ready for physical confrontations, and those
involving firearms. Also, be aware that the taser
does NOT work on everyone! Certain prescription
meds and controlled substances can nullify the
electric shock sensations of the taser on some
people. Be ready to transition to another weapon
to repel an attack, as needed!

Dear Patrol Division Officer,

First of all, please be aware there is no such thing as the Patrol Division and hasn't been for a number of years. The former Patrol Division is now The Bureau of Patrol.

Second, kindly sign all missives directed to me. Print them out on paper with the proper heading and send to my office at 3510 S Michigan Ave.

Regards,

Police Department Superintendent.

I'm sure the new supe is already aware of this blog and whether he asks someone to monitor it, or someone in his office takes it upon themselves, he'll be apprised of what's posted here.

I doubt any supe is going to legitimize this blog by posting here openly.

I don't see the need for the supe to be blogging, at all. Spend your time being an effective leader and administrator and your actions and successes will speak for themselves.

I thought 009 was Deering.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

The 009th Dist is called Deering, I don't know why.

The South Deering neighborhood is on the East side:
South Deering, one of the 77 official community areas of the City of Chicago, Illinois, is located on the far south side. It was a very industrial neighborhood, consisting of a small group of homes in the northeast corner and Lake Calumet taking up most of the remainder. It exists in the 10th Ward, what was once the reign of Alderman Edward Vrdolyak, now in private law practice. It was the home of the now defunct Wisconsin Steel Works, originally the Joseph H. Brown Iron and Steel Company, which opened in 1875 and was the first steel mill in the entire Calumet region. Since the closing of the plant, the neighborhood has gone through an economic depression. South Deering was the home of primarily lower middle class dwellers

If he's at 1300, I'd be thinking he's addressing what he sees as his biggest problem first. It's either getting accredited, or revamping the training division. Maybe both.

Sorry. I left a new iPhone in a restaurant last month. The waiter put it on a shelf and waited for me to come back for it. He refused the cash I tried to give him, saying 'you already tipped me on the bill'. Damned shame a waiter (who obviously makes less than any of US) can find it in him to be an honest man when one of our own can't.

I hope you set it with a distinctive ring. You could keep calling it and follow the ringtone...
