World to End Tomorrow

This might be the last blog posting ever.

Well, this and a few others this morning.

So if perchance the rapture arrives as you may have been hearing the past few days, we hope you had as good a run as we did.

Otherwise, we'll be here again Saturday.

Friday open post in the meantime.

Saturday, 14 MAY 2011: Ceremony honoring Officer Michael A. Ceriale at 1100 hrs. Only a few exempts show up. New Supt is not due in town until the next day, 15 May 2011.

Thursday, 19 May 2011: Ceremony honoring Officer Thomas Wortham IV at 2300 hrs. A ton of exempts show up.

Showing up in droves just because the new superintendent may be there and he was. I found your agenda disgusting. You know who you are and you make me sick.

The world isn't ending "tomorrow", nor it will ever end.

Eventually, the world will change from what we are familiar with.

I would like to see the new supe say he is not going to be part of the race-card-baiting demands of the revruns and 'community activists' regarding his appointments as well as how he runs this dept.

We don't need tokens at this point, we need competent leaders. Put race aside and appoint the most qualified! What about that is race-based?

McCarthy's head is probably spinning already once he was exposed to how this city operates. I don't care if he came from the toughest city in NY or NJ, he's going to have to have balls made of granite if he wants to have any real effect on this department.

Don't see that happening with Rahm though--I heard his balls are harder than his stone head. He reminds me of a gargoyle. Seriously, look at him.

The world will be fine until it is hit by the battleship sized asteroid heading our way this November.

THEY say it will pass between the moon and the Earth. Why all this sudden interest in comets and asteroids lately? Why were there two shuttles on the launch bay last year? Never happened before! Why did they just send up another secret shuttle months ago without divulging it's purpose?

Spend your savings. Take that vacation this year (early). Kiss the kids a few more times and talk nice to Mom. IT IS COMING!!!!!!

This is the comment that I posted on ChicagoNow.com in response.

#1 ~ Chicago does not have a Police Chief. We have a Superintendent of Police. If you want to have an intelligent discussion on this, at least get the terminology correct.

#2 ~ Don't know where your concern of a lack of "black faces in high level appointments" is from. His 1st (and BIGGEST) appointment was to the CPS and IS a black face.

#3 ~ No positions in government should be pre-determined to be reserved for "black faces". The best, most qualified people should ALWAYS take precedent over artificially created racial quotas, even if the people involved are from Morocco, Newfoundland or Mars.

#4 ~ The rank and file police officers are powerless to determine who their bosses are, yet the appointment of Garry McCarthy to Police Superintendent has been met with positive enthusiasm. Many officers feel that the Daley system of clout/merit promotions was always a sham and did little to promote actually qualified candidates through the ranks of the department.

#5 ~ For the new Superintendent to have ANY chance of success, he MUST have the freedom to appoint his most trusted assistant, the 1st Deputy, without political or racial interference. The Department has many black command personnel including the Chief of Patrol, and the fact that the Superintendent or First Deputy Superintendent are not Black, does not diminish the overall power of black officers in the structure of the Department.

#6 ~ The Black aldermen of the City Council (or any others, for that matter), WILL NOT stop Mayor Emanuals' choices for ANY position in his administration from being approved. Say what you will, they basically all want to please the Mayor, especially since he has mentioned reducing the size of the council. Aldermen make a lot of money and NONE of them want to risk being targeted for unemployment by the Mayor by having their ward eliminated and expanded to the Alderman next door. So, yes. The Council will CONTINUE to be a rubber stamp for the Mayor, as it always has been.

Rahm wants to get through the next 4 years as Mayor without a serious scandal. He won't rock the boat, so I see him kowtowing to the revruns and the Black and Hispanic political base. He's already pushing the DREAM act and free scholarships for illegals!

He will NOT give Garry McCarthy the power or freedom to make much of a change in the CPD. He doesn't want feathers ruffled on his way to a run for President of the United States.

Here's my thought on Rahms' plan:
Mayor of Chicago 2011-2015.
Either a 2nd term as Mayor or a run for Governor of Illinois 2015-2019.
Run for POTUS in either 2016 or 2020.

I laugh every time I hear that stuff. Wouldn’t you think that god the almighty would just pull out a computer and insert a flash drive with everyone in the worlds name on it? Can you imagine how big that book would be? He could even download the book of man to a kindle rather than carry a big old heavy book around. These folks need to get with the times.

While I appreciate your point, if an exempt shows up just because the boss is going to be there, then its just as well they don't show. Better that the people who really cared about Mike were there.

Not sure if that is a fair assessment. There were many exempts who would have been at the Ceriale service, but were instead attending the Washington, DC memorial services. Timing was just bad in my opinion.

----Just out---copied from my police e-mail. Released around 1730 hours, 20 May

PAX 501

Garry F. McCarthy, Acting Superintendent of Police

VOLUME 11 20 May 2011 NUMBER 5

I am honored to have the privilege of leading and serving as Superintendent of this incredible police agency. My vision is of an even more accomplished future built upon the many successes for which the Chicago Police Department is known as a result of your dedication and commitment to service.

Law enforcement is the greatest profession to which one can commit. As a second-generation police officer, policing has been my driving passion since well before I was sworn to this noble profession 30 years ago. Among many exceptional police agencies, the Chicago Police Department has earned a distinguished reputation as one of the most accomplished organizations in the field. The remarkable success achieved here has put your hard work in the spotlight and is a testament to the excellence at the heart of policing.

The unique mission of police work is to serve by protecting the lives, property, and rights of all people. Every unit in this Department is vital to achieving these honorable goals, and it is a source of great pride to be part of a team working toward them.

In spite of personnel shortages, Chicago Police Officers have achieved impressive, even historical, gains in crime reduction and community service. The reality of this admirable achievement is not that more is being done with less, but that striving to continually do one's work better and with great meaning yields significant outcomes.

The nature of our work demands accountability, and adequate resources are an absolute necessity in order to realize results. It is my foremost obligation to ensure the tools and support you need to safely provide quality police service in the communities of this world renowned city.

The focus on the mission will be crucial to our continued success as I address the limitations on resources. Always remember one officer in the right place at the right time can change the course of history, and our role in law enforcement has an important impact on lives everyday.

I value the open and respectful communication that is the benchmark of effective policing, and I am grateful to be able to continue my police career in an organization with outstanding professionalism and leadership. I thank you for your devotion to this profession and look forward to the future. I in turn will work to help you achieve further success in reducing crime and serving the residents, including our families, in this city

Garry F. McCarthy

The new mayor’s next big challenge is to hammer out $16 million worth of union concessions built into Daley’s budget, but not yet negotiated. An agreement that calls for unpaid furlough days and substitutes comp time for cash overtime expires June 30.

Asked earlier this week what demands he plans to make of organized labor, Emanuel threw the ball back in labor’s court.

“I’ve come up with up with $75 million in savings. I’ve asked them to come forward with ideas to hit that $16 million savings,” Emanuel said.

“I know they want to get rid of the furlough days. [But] I have to reconcile a contract with labor that calls for something that ends June 30 with a budget that assumes something else. Labor will be my partner in finding that savings.”

Amazingly, some folks have offered to take homes, cars, bank funds, and pets from those before the rapture comes as they figure the "good folk" going straight to heaven will have no need of such earthly things...and some folks have given up jobs, cars, pets, and closed bank accounts....somehow I don't think this stuff is really what God has in mind for the end of life on earth as we know it.
