ISP Helped Take Down Blago

  • It was the fall of 2008 when an Illinois State Police technician was inside of Rod Blagojevich’s North Side campaign office under orders from Blagojevich’s camp to search for bugs.

The tech left the office telling Blagojevich’s people that no listening devices were found.

But the bugs were, in fact, in place, the FBI was listening, and the State Police employee even knew where they were. He pretended not to detect them.

That’s because the Illinois State Police, the agency charged with protecting Blagojevich and his family, was at the same time secretly working with the FBI, providing them with inside information during a critical period of the probe against the former governor.

The oath is to the law, the Constitution and the people of Illinois, not the guy holding office at the moment. ISP acted in the manner expected by the citizens of Illinois. Sometimes our cynicism of the corrupt system here in Illinois makes us forget that.

A little birdie says a certain aldercreature spent a considerable sum of money obtaining electronic anti surveillance gear and detection equipment from a certain European country.

This stuff was seriously above and beyond what's generally available on the US open market at Spy Shops, etc...

ha, the isp acted the way they did because the feds were watching and listening and isp knew it. If isp didnt know the feds were involved you better believe that those bugs would be found and gone.. Isp is extremely professional and good at what they do but when the gov comes knocking to get rid of some bugs then they will disappear. The law and the oath to the law was not the deciding factor here, it was the feds.

Ah, Anonymous Anonymous@5/02/2011 01:33:00 AM

A little hasty aren't we? What you propose suggests that the ISP knew the FBI had bugs in place, correct? Well, then if they (ISP) are as bad as you suggest, do you really believe that the FBI would let them know? Would let them know they were THAT close to Blago? Okay, assuming they (FBI) never told the ISP what was going on, the ISP finds the bugs, do you really believe the damn things are marked "Property of the FBI?" Do you not think that for all anyone knew that maybe Mike Madigan's camp had planted them? Short Shanks? The power that be at Children's Memorial Hospital? Why don't we concentrate on what we KNOW: The ISP covered the G on this and it resulted in a real Adam Henry getting rolled up as he deserved. I suspect that you don't know dick about what went on. I know that when Blago went down, there weren't many tears shed in the ISP and that's a good thing.

I feel a bit better about my department after reading this. Our secret squirrels were able to do their job and not divulge any knowledge of the task.

This information makes me proud to be a police officer and proud of the integrity of the Illinois State Police. Some years back we had a chief in CPD bugging all of the telephones on the 12th floor. Nothing came of that.

Yes, you can buy electronic equipment in foreign countries that is banned in the US. But, you have to get it through customs, which is not easy. The company has to lie on the customs declaration and so do you. So, unless you are a scumbag who has something to hide, like some aldercreature, why would you do this?

The FBI should trust the Chicago Police (some) and we could get a lot done. 99.9% of the Chicago Police are hard working Officers. And with our help we could get alot of aldercreature.

That's why most politicians use private outside firms to sweep for bugs. Blago tried to save a buck and became the fall guy for Chicago Democrats everywhere.

Why would you assume he's talking about illegal electronic equipment, just because he says the quality is better than what's generally available at the SpyStore?

That's like saying it must be illegal to bring a Lamborghini into the country and oh, my, you would have to lie on the customs form to bring a faster car into the country.
