Here's an Idea

We have the brightest readers in the universe. Check out this suggestion (we're summarizing it here). After that $33 million cannabis bust the other day, how about paying the teachers' raises in the equivalent weight of weed? The teachers could sell it for the extra money or smoke it to forget the giant hosing they're getting at the hands of Tiny Dancer 9.5.

Did anyone catch this in the story about the CPS property tax hikes?
  • ...CPS Chief Executive Jean-Claude Brizard floated a plan late Tuesday that would return a 2 percent pay raise to elementary school teachers in January if they agreed to work an additional 90 minutes each school day and an extra two weeks.
Divide and conquer - that's been Rahm's trademark since before arriving in Chicago. "Never let a serious crisis go to waste." But remember, he's pro-union. Keep repeating that as he sticks it in and breaks it off.

Does anyone else get the feeling Rahm is trying to force a strike vote by the teachers so he can precipitate a "no confidence" vote and then break them?

Seeing that 90% of inner-city CPS high school students regularly smoke weed, it should be no problem for the teachers to make a tidy profit slinging dime bags during remedial maff.

Additionally, a few tokes off the one-hitter is a great way to forget that you pursued a dead-end profession in the CPS.

Don't forget that some of the tax money raised for " the schools" will be diverted to the TIF program which is controlled by the mayor with little oversight.

Why are elected Officials such as the President and our Newly elected Mayor allowed to be so obtrusive to the neighborhoods they live in. For example, Rahm's neighborhood, (Ravenswood) is being outfitted with Video cameras both in the alley's and on the street by a private vendor, Quantum Crossing LLC. a local Chicago based company based on their 312 prefix on the side of the truck. Wonder Who's Paying the Bill for This? Of Course; We Are! In addition, No One is Allowed to Approach the Mayors Residence whether its UPS, FedEx, or even a US Mail Carrier! All deliveries must be handed to the PO sitting out front. I'm sure the same set of rules applied to the Daley regime.

I know the President has no real say-so when it comes to making choices regarding his personal safety! Would it not be Safer, Easier, more Cost Effective in long run to have a specified residents, something similar to the Governor's residence? It does not have to be a mansion by any means. Its not like these residences are going to ever be vacant. The Secret Service sits on the Presidents house in Hyde Park regardless if its in use or not. Look how that has become a pain in the ass for those residence.

Why not have a Secure "compound" that would better serve our public Officials that doesn't affect the regular comings and goings of its local residence. The Mayors office's are in City Hall, like it or not... Why give him a choice where to reside? Don't like it? Don't run for office! Well I guess one things for certain Mr. Mayor. Your finally a resident of Chicago. Don't forget to pay your property tax bill in the next month or so, or are you still hiding under your wife's Not-For-Profit organization?

They need to litigate this, not strike.

Their contract states they get a raise if funding is there.

Either CPS has the money, or it doesn't.

Attorneys need to question Jean Claude about this for about 6 hours during a dep.

Lets make a deal time is during contract talks, not now.

As a juvenile probation officer I go into the Cps schools all year long and have been doing it for the past 21 years .In that time , it seems like the number of schools has increased dramatically while the number of students has dropped . It would seem to me that there is no reason a high school can't have 2000 or more students . Now it seems like they want schools with 300- 500. Often there are 2-3 schools in the same building , each with their own administration , principal , etc. What the CPS should of been doing for the past ten years would of been scraping off the bottom , rather then constantly skimming the better kids off the top . They should of been taking the worst kids and puttting them in special schools so they don't disrupt the kids who really want to go to school. This year CPS closed one of the schools that fit this bill almost exactly, the Center Factory program which was an all day , work / school program for kids on probation/
The second thing is I don't believe that the school day or year needs to be expanded . I'm sure you would find that the lowest performing kids are missing 60 days ayear or more , are tardy almost every day and cut half the classes the days they are there.
The third thing is the proposal to make teachers make home visits . I can't tell you how many times I'm the only person who comes for report card pick up day or special ed staffings . These mothers don't work , yet have no time to do these things .

My question is, how come not a peep from the unions? Where are the busloads of out-of-state union supporters coming in to demonize Rahm? Where are the thousands of protestors marching onto the Daley Center?

If you get injured on the job then you only get paid a part of your salary for three months, then it diminishes up to six months and then after a while you get paid $0.00. Now, even if the city does that to us, there will be fools out there working. We have no unity on this job.

With this honor comes a great responsibility to guarantee the safety and security of the citizens and guests. The Department has met with the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge # 7 and other unions to begin discussions of the Department's initial planning to address staffing needs for these events. The Department has informed the Unions that it anticipates the need for ALL Department members to be available to work prior to and during these scheduled events. The Department is putting members on notice that time off may be restricted or eliminated. This notice provides Department members with adequate notice so that they do not make plans that conflict with the requirement that they be available during May 2012. Taxes increase equals the economy worsening.

Yes, keep on voting for change you can believe in.

The democratic politicians are so mismanaging the budget, but all those voters who get something for nothing keep on voting for Democrats who take from the middle class and give to the lazy poor.

Don't give me excuses for them and say, "We owe it to them!" Let the lazy poor turn their lives around. If they want the American Dream to be theirs, then let them work for it!

I, for one, am tired of giving to those who do not give back, or who never contributed in the first place.

Try this on for size, and this should be the State of Illinois' motto: "Those who do not work, should not eat." For you liberal Christians out there who always turn to the Bible as citing why we should be helping the lazy poor out, that verse comes from 2 Thessalonians 3:10. I am tired of the handouts to the lazy and the thugs.

This is the city's usual shell game, smoke and mirrors with the Public. The peas are us the teachers, police officers and other city workers.

They're using the favorite prop "the children", to justify an increase in property taxes, which they say will be used to fund CPS. Double take an we then deny teachers their raises. The property taxes will be used instead to pad their pockets or the hundreds of contractors working for CPS.

City is not negotiating with the CTU or abiding by the contract.

Unfortunately officers are in the same predicament ment. Youse guys have the " Chalkies to justify the shell game of moving bodies around to make it look like the city is well protected. Our numbers are being dwindled for more than just saving money in the short run. The contract will be stalled for years. We, the city and the citizens will suffer as the cops are portrayed as greedy and Rahm as holding the line against all evil.

When the contract is finally offered it will contain a large juicy RETRO CHECK (that’s our money with no interest) and some bone for everybody on the job now. But, it will sell out everything for everyone who becomes a Chicago cop from then on. The dwindled numbers will make the bone in the contract affordable to Rahm and to make the vote buyable. The rights of Chicago Police Officers and the so called union will be effectively broken and Mc-G will have done his job.

Stay Safe, register and VOTE!

Rahm's bright ideas:

1. Home visits
2. Longer days
3. Longer school year

It's the UNO charter school model. Teachers have to work 9 hr days (this does NOT include planning/prep and grading) and most schools went to an Aug. 1 start date. They got rid of teacher professional development days and added 17 more student days instead.

Juan Rangel is the CEO of UNO. He was also campaign co-chair for Rahm's mayoral campaign. He knows almost nothing about education and will freely admit it, yet Rahm is trying to follow his lead with CPS. As an aside, Rangel doesn't believe in school libraries because he didn't use them as a kid, so no UNO school has a library. The teachers have to supply the mass majority of the books themselves out of their own pockets for their students.

UNO's test scores aren't as high as they should be, so they went to the longer school year as a way to try to boost their scores to justify their funding. The teachers got a 4% raise this year but a 10% increase in the amount of days with students. They did not get raises last year. Oh so familiar sounding to what is happening in CPS.

Rahm is vilifying the teachers as if they really don't care about the children. He wants to portray them as greedy and callous. In reality the teachers are only asking for a fair shake. They are having a substantial work increase forced upon them and little, if any, extra compensation for it.

Speaking of that jag bag Rahm why is he having his forums on this in shit neighborhoods? Once again he's pandering to the non taxpaying, Link card using, dregs of society. I used to think nobody could be worse than Shortshanks. I think we're stuck with one who is.

I stated a few days ago that Emmanuel wnats a teachers strike so he can break them and go after other unions that oppose his will. Chicago has always been a union town. Daley often backed off going against them. Rahm is a smart cookie. Don't put anything past this low life.

Does anyone have a taste for a City of Chicago Income Tax? This idea has been tossed around before. Rahm can hire hundreds of workers to run this office and fleece us for even more tax money.

O T Rumors coming out of city hall for a buyout or some type of early retirement deal. They want people out with least amount of benefits. This may be good for anyone with 10 to 15 years on. Young enough to start a new life outside of here.

I call Bullsh!t on this.

They don't even have enough $$ to hire those 50 recruits that Rahm promised.

No class in September as promised.

Who knows when the next time they are going to hire recruits.

Unbelievable! Take away the teachers' raises...then offer them a measly 2% raise of they'll accept an even LONGER school day. Their leadership is right in telling
Rahm and the school Supt. to take a flying leap.

Rahm is lower than a snake. He's definitely out to bust any and all unions that dare to question his infinite wisdom. You'll see that as we move closer to contract negotiation time he'll start negotiating in the media and public by vilifying us and portraying us as greedy city employees unwilling to "help out" the city.

I heard a rumor that supposedly the city would like to hire retired officers to work district lockups and desk's.
Hey Rahm and McCarthy I believe there is a contract in place and they contract provides bid spots for those aforementioned spots. Besides the obvious contractual ramifications with the city as broke as Rahm says it is where exactly would Rahm come up with the money to hire the hundreds of retired coppers??
This prick will try and anything and everything to obtain concessions from unions. If only the sheeple could've seen this bastards true colors as he was running for mayor. Oh wait this is a democratic city and Rahm was anointed by Barack and the media. Never mind.

The Chicago Tribune is now asking:

Where in the world was Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy?

All I can say is what happened to bringing in those new tech savvy coppers of the 21st century?

Ya know... the tech savvy ones as in knowing how to manage and track appointments in at least one of the many on-line personal daily planners.

The coppers that know how to communicate instead of mis-communicate when they are suppose to be reaching out to the community with their multi-lingual capabilities.

Oh...wait...maybe that was all b.s.

Never-mind

As much as I can't stand the sight of Rahm, I think he is 3 steps ahead of everyone when it comes to political planning. He is one treacherous and snaky S.O.B. Don't underestimate what underhanded methods he will use to get what he wants.

Elongating the school day would be welcome as long as it contained content and wasn't just built in fluff time to futher relieve the parents of the responsibility of raising their children. elongating the school year by 2 weeks is stupid. They should backfill all the ridiculous days off they get before lengthening the year.2 weeks at the end would just be play time.

generally speaking union guys are too stupid to realize the dems fuck them just as much as anyone. this isnt 1960, they no longer need you. They have the minorities to carry them

8/25/2011 11:11:00 AM<<<

How many of those union guys applauded the SHAKMAN DECREE. It meant that they didn't have to be Precinct Captains, or go to the Ward dinners or anything like that. But the Shakman Decree killed off something important, what was known in this town as WORKINGMAN'S CLOUT. That clout came if you worked for the city, in a skilled profession, and belonged to a union you had some security.

Now it is the "New Americans" and the Section 8 and LINK Card vote that will keep the Democrats in power. That is, until the source of their money which is us dries up.

I think these union members are getting exactly what they deserve. They have been blindly following these Democrats and now they are getting it stuck to them.
Notice that the national NEA has already endorsed Obama a full two years before the election without knowing who he will run against. Who cares. Just bend over and smile.
Rahm and his lackeys have every intention of breaking the teachers union and then moving on from there. First they denied the 4% raise. Second they are going to extend the school day and thirdly they will extend the school year by two weeks and you bet there will be no additional compensation.
They've already hijacked the state legislature into making Chicago's teacher's union into being the only union in the state needing a 75% mandate for a strike vote. You don't think this was planned a long time ago? They knew what was in store. This shit was all done while the little thief Daley was still around.
But no matter, next election every asshole union in this city will jump up an down endorsing the Democratic candidate. Quinn sticks it to the state workers. That's ok, he's a Democrat. He's pro union.
No wonder this city is the way it is. Can't wait til I can be gone. Hope there's something left.

Something for Non-Police SCC Blog readers to ponder....

The other day:

While working 1st watch I went to a "Noise Disturbance" on North St. Louis ave. out front a beautiful Silver Avalanche with nice rims driven by a Mexican male about 30-35.

He had no Il. license (typical)but some sort of goof ball insurance and in broken english said he was a landscaper. Had some nice jewelry on too.

Out front was (at 0130am) several children all loud and playing with numerous males and females having a Corona/Modelo party.

I asked questions like : how many kids do you have and he said 5..and pointed at the group of at least 12 running around (ages 3-14). He said he and his 2 brothers had combined 9 kids all living in the 2 flats 1st and second floors.

I asked who lived in the basement as I walked up the porch stairs and proceeded down to where the music was coming.

As I go down there and once inside the inner door was several dry walled partitions with numerous doors seeming to be like mini apartments within.

I asked "how many families in here" the guy said a couple with small kids and a couple lone individual males. About 10 more people basically.

I asked where they went to school and he claimed the one over there (there was a public school right across the street).

Basically folks the guy was not legal, the wife MAY be. She probably works a cleaning job as to his Lawncare job. She probably gets a LINK card and the schools now feed the kids as we all know.

In essence this is just ONE scenario of what Police and Fire see all the fricking time!

Meanwhile we legal and legit citizens have to worry about the economy and being "LEGIT" paying for things these people don't like City Stickers and Drivers Licenses to say the least.

Also as I was shown the Mexican ID from the driver Sr. Poppy....his Voters card was visible to me.

Just a side note!

These instances are a bleed to our City services/school systems/State economy and our national crisis...you tell me whats fair and how to rectify things...

Add this up and the many other people here doing the same thing without pressure of INS or anything...well then you figure out whats wrong after the math!

3 bars

Sorry to burst your bubble but no promotions and no hiring. All of the focus is on the G8. No need for detectives or more officers. McCarthy said we have enough personnel to handle anything. Now move along, nothing more to see.
