Street Sign Memorial
From the comments:
- ...they are doing a street dedication for P.O. Ben Perez, who was killed in the line of duty, this Tuesday Sept 20th at 53rd and Nashville (at 1000 hours). [It] would be nice to see some support for his wife and kids. Thanks

Shots fired by the police at 5800 S. Racine. Bad guy down but not out, gun recovered, PO's OK.
Why did it take soooooo long? In 39th Ward Aldeercreature Lorino has here dad's bagmen precint captins on streets. They did alot for this city. Disgraceful. Those should come down
Mayor Jane Byrne named the Columbus Bridge for 3 cops back in the 80's
Sorry, heard of the unveiling too late.
Benny Perez will remain in my thoughts and prayers.
Thanks for the reminder good showing of Officers from the 010th & 008th District, including Commanders from both. Would have been nice if every Disctict sent 1 car for a better turn out. The highest ranking exempt was D/C from area Four. The mayor and all exempt from 35th St a no show. I guess they were all to busy trying to figure out which Districts to close, which new (cheap)vehicles to buy and how to put more Officers on street without hiring anyone. Saw Phil Cline (god bless)him. He still is fighting. Cannel 7 news shows up at about 10:30 half hour late. Capt RJA
Very nice event , St Daniels students sang God bless America , alderman/ rabbi Wolfe /Channel 7,and about 100 others all their on a nice late morning ceremony.
There was a nice turn out for the street sign dedication.
I am sorry I that I didn't attend. In somewhat of a defense or maybe not in others opinion, the Department hosted somewhat of a retirement celebration/luncheon for retirees from 2010/2011 at headquarters this morning. Maybe 150-200 people. Superintendent, Fr. Brandt, Cuello, Murphy, Roti, E. Brown, Wysinger and some Commanders in attendance. It was very nice and way better than the day I retired. I had never heard of these luncheons and was very surprised. But Thank You to the Officers that were able to attend the street dedication. You guys always make us look good!
Very nice turnout, a lot of support for the Perez family. We will always remember Ben and now with the street dedication, we all have the honor of saying, this is one of our own to remember as we walk down Nashville. May God bless the entire Perez family.
Was nice.
The daily bulletin on some prints had the event listed at 1100 hours, and it was either caught and fixed or I'm crazy, but numerous PO's had the time of the ceremony at 1100 hours told to them also. Most likely the News got the wrong time passed on to them too. I heard it was a tasteful and kind tribute for an brother gone way too soon.
