More Questions

So where's the list the Department used to have of everyone with CDL's?

You know, the guys qualified to drive the Prisoner Vans?

You know...Prisoner Vans? Those big things that you can pack the prisoners into. Yes, we realize there were only two of them available up and running Saturday night. Where were the rest?

Oh, no drivers? And three hours to get a CTA bus? Driven by a CTA employee? Not too much liability there, eh?

And what was the total OT cost? For 175 arrest, most of whom were I-bonded out on BS city charges that aren't going to stick in court?

The protesters don't have to win the streets - all they have to do is tie up the manpower and bankrupt the city. That's as good as a win for them. Throw in a few frivolous lawsuits filed by bottom-feeding opportunistic lawyers and they can declare victory on every level.

Watch yourselves boys and girls.

Bankrupting the city.

Yeah just think if we sent 175 juvees to the lock-up

I read that it's costing us something like $170K/year to lock up a male and something like $240K/yr for a female. Don't remember the exact numbers but it was something outrageous like that.

At those rates you have to ask yourself just who is being punished here. The kids doing the crime or the taxpayers?! Hell it works out to around $500 bucks a day and the taxpayers could buy a brand new iphone and give it to them cheaper than that. I mean since that is what many of these cta snatch and grabs are about.

Retro article on I-Bonds as a license to commit small time crime and deal drugs:

Ok, Now it’s real!!

Bid CPD lockup keepers got there walking papers. If you’re a bid officer working the lockup, time to hit the streets. If you have been doing that job for 5, 10 years, hit the streets. Little dancer boy and his bottom feeder has taken the first step in sending more cops on the street. No new CPD hires. But they sure can use some more detention aids.
If I were in the lockup position for the last ten years, I would first, file my grievance, second, decide if I should sign the paper, third, request retraining. Show me how to work the cameras in the cars, complete an AIRA report, complete an arrest report, for that matter, get at minimum a refresher on new laws, general orders, special orders, search and seizure changes, vehicle pursuit policy, traffic enforcement… the list goes on.
Now how can the department throw them out on the street like this? Not to mention a direct violation of out collective bargaining agreement! Bid spots mean nothing?
So if the mayor and the police superintendent can just change things mid stream, throw this shit out to the media and public, again in violation to out collective bargaining agreement, then why should we honor this so called agreement? We should be able to use the same loop hole and strike, protest, exercise our right to lessen our “INDEX”.
Or better yet, since the city feels that the contract means nothing, than I feel I should be able to also take extreme measures to make the best financial decision for my bottom line. I need to move out of this shit hole. I can’t afford to live here. I’m feeling a financial hardship living under these high taxes, dangerous, under manned police state. Let’s throw some skin in the game. Wanna play emergency extreme protocol games, I’ll play.
All the civil unrest in recent days has been a wake up call to our leaders, cops, and citizens that we are in real trouble. I’m not going to get in the path of hundreds of protesters wanting to exercise a right to protest. I feel what they are out there for and will just let them move on. I just went to the G8 training. BULLSHIT. Holding a stick and holding a line will last about 4 seconds. When my partner steps out to struggle with a protester who wants to break the line, i'm going with my partner. WE are going home safe. Now what’s the rest of the police line to do? I hope you follow me, because were going this way boys!! So much for the police line. Most important, our pensions, safety and well being are at steak. You can kiss my bad back, knees and ASS!! I’m not putting myself out for this department. I’ve talked to many officers in recent days and we all feel the same. To the Mayor and department.. You better take better care of us or you’re going to find yourself on your own and a major media eye sore when the country watches the police crumble under your leadership.

There are no less than 6 of those prisoner vans parked in 001 on any given night. Neither Kennedy, Tina or Tobias could make a decision until past 1 am to start locking up these idiots...They gave verbal warnings before 11pm.

Anyone with any common sense could figure out that Anov'ing them would actually force them pay instead of costing the taxpayer several thousand dollars per arrestee for processing and ot. Its a slap in the face to the protestors to get ticketed and not be arrested being that they want to be physically arrested. Anov wouldlve been much faster too.

Who will issue that order? No one has the nerve to make quick decisions at the scene. They had to wait 3 hours for CTA buses? They could not find one officer that was qualified to drive the non-existent prisoner vans? And this is a very peaceful protest? Tina Skahill in charge at the scene? WOW

Solution: CTA drivers already have
CDL licenses so have them drive the
prisoner-transport vans with two
officers riding shotgun. Yes it can
be done because any ordinance here
in the city can be circumvented by
the mayor or city council if and
when it suits their purposes.

For those of you bashing the delay in arrests and not issuin ANOVs, stop. The good news is you haven't dealt with these protests very often, of course the bad news is you have spent your career in a shithole.
Waiting these protestors out a little wasnt a bad idea, they have been on their feet all day, standing around, getting high, come 1 am they are beat. The officers who were there and brought in were already working and are used to be up at that time. We need to bring the advantage to our side, especially since we are outnumbered 50-1. If ANOVs would have been issued and signed, guess what they are still in the park. Second the protestors would have never signed the ANOVs, which means officers would have wasted more time writing them and then having to arrest them anyway.
Do not listen to the comments on this site saying how friendly the protestors were, how we share some of the same ideals, because they are NOT your friend. They will set you up, video you, tape you, bait you, whatever it takes to get their message out.

To the many civilians who read this blog, consider one of the many ramifications that this continuing civil unrest; and the upcoming disaster in May, that will affect you personally. When you have a problem that you feel merits a police response, be prepared to handle it yourself, because the police AREN'T COMING, for obvious reasons.

Now I know that this is alresdy a reality in some parts of the city, but for the rest of you, get ready. Unless there is a life threatening need for assistance, don't bother calling.

In another time of this country's history, this might not be such a big deal, but these days a vast majority of Americans cannot wipe themselves after a crap without government review, approval, tutorial, and financial help.

To some of the wannabe hippie protesters out there, be careful what you wish for. With deference to Bob Dylan, the times aren't just changing. They're changed. And not necessarily for the good.

Well I'll tell you what, I'm a police officer. I'm not afraid to make a decision. The park closes at 11pm, then you must be out if the park or you will be arrested. The first arrest starts at 11. These bosses have no balls. The want their spots for the long run. Give me, a lowly PO, the chance to be a boss. Sure, another scared boss, will want me out of my position. But during my time, I will get things done. I'm not afraid of stupid political backlash. Everything is a mess politically anyway. If a boss can't make a decision for 2 hours, then they cannot lead anyone in this department. I know we can't just rush in, that would be foolish. But that's why we preplan and train. Right?

So 175 people were cited and to what end?

That we will not tolerate freedom of assembly and free speech? That the political apparatus can extort $87,000 dollars in fines from the weak members of our society because they don't have any political clouted connections?

Who's safety was being threatened? Who's rights were being violated? Who/where's the complainant?

The police departments primary purpose is to protect it's citizens.

Six people were shot Saturday night and one killed.

There was an HBT incident in progress at the time and the city leaders were amassing a little army to present a show of force for this b.s. instead -- and to what end? What purpose does it serve?

Yeah I know it's the law.

We have laws on Illegal Immigration that are much more damaging to society that are being ignored. Laws on banking frauds being ignored, union contracts signed and in writing being ignored, pension obligations being ignored...constitutional rights being ignored and superseded by corporate and political influence.

This city is losing it. They are losing their minds over the power grabs.

Lock up coppers are not being thrown out onto the streets. If you go to the FOP web site you will find info about that situation which states any lock up keeper will be kept inside. They also will retain their bid spot in case the city, at some future time, re-opens the closed lock ups. The only way anyone will see the streets is if they submit a TO-FROM stating that they wish to give up their bid spot.

Am I missing something here? Because according to the FOP (look on their web site under Current Updates)they say that the city CAN
civilianize the lock-up keepers spot.

Section 23.9 — Filling Unit Duty Assignments.
This Section shall apply only to the following jobs within the units set forth in Section 23.8: Warrant Clerk, Summary Investigation Detective, Review Investigation Detective, Review Officers, Detective Division Administrative Desk Duty Assignment, District Desk, District Watch Relief, or Lockup only as specifically set forth below. This city is so upside down, the law says that you need a CDl with a P" endorsement to transport a bus with 16 or more passengers, Way back a long time ago, legal affairs casts its opinion that prisoners were passengers. Not so they are just that prisoners. Our prisoner vans way less then 26,001 lbs so you do not need a CDL. But the city says you do, you can have a class A license or B, but you still need the P endorsement for the prisoner vans.

From the FOP website:

New Helmets? We Already have Helmets 10/18/11

The Department has apparently discovered that there is a problem with the helmets that were issued to all Deparmtment members. The helmet shield cannot be lowered while wearing a gas mask. How does the Department intend on fixing the problem?

Those officers in voluntary units (tactical teams, etc) may be required to purchase a new helmet or be reassigned. The cost of the new helmet is upwards of $200.00.

RIOT HELMETS????
We are not wearing RIOT HELMETS. As pointed out numerous times by the Academy staff, our helmets have DOT stamped on the back. Dept of Trans. Our helmets are not to be used for riot situations. They are for riding bikes. Thats it. No impact protection from bricks, bats, etc.....
When will we be issued the proper equipment? Federal money should be there to pay for it. FOP?

Regardless of whether you sympathize with the lockup keepers or not it's a blatant and clear violation of our contract. It sets a dangerous precedent if left unchallenged.
Today lockup keepers tomorrow who knows?
The FOP needs to take action and get very vocal in the media about this egregious violation of our contract at the hands of Napolean(AKA Rahm).
