Crossing Guard Supervisors

Another useless spot eliminated:
  • Just out. Crossing guard supervisors gone as of TODAY. No plan on how to handle the missing crossing guards tomorrow morning. No order on who gets to handle "I gots the snuffles" calls, who does the A&A, nothing. How f---ing stupid are the people making the decisions. You better walk your babies to school for awhile since they is gonna be corners withs no crossin guards der.

How about shifting the Crossing Guards to the non-sworn Traffic Management Authority people? They cross children, right? The direct vehicles, right? That all sounds like "Things Involving Traffic," right? Why hold down beat cars or police officers directing what is generally a civilian function?

When you do that you might want to file a F.O.I.A request to get the location history of his address. Then maybe see what kind of calls have occoured at his residence. Then after you find that, maybe talk to some people around the rush street bars and the bars up by wrigley. Now a Chicago firefighter has done wrong.
The elder Castro has been arrested about a dozen times between 1985 and 2011 but does not have any convictions on his record, records show. He is a 20-year Chicago Fire Department with a yearly salary of $79,926, according to city records.
So.... He's been arrested about a dozen times, and he is trusted to protect the lives of citizens in the City of Chicago? Now I can see getting arrested once prior to getting a city job. But a dozen times? He is no better than the average thug. I don't care who he is, he does not deserve the benefits of being a civil servent.
And I see he raised a real winner. Fighting with the 009th district police? Scumbags!

If you ask anyone that worked for her they said that out of the publics view she was a miserable tyrant that would demand and bark orders and this was well before she was sick. She ran a charity thats donors were forced to contribute to or else they would not get city business. Everyone praised how she handled her illness. Well considering since she was sick she had a fleet of taxpayer paid vehicles and servants at her disposal and that she never really had to even leave the house if she choose not to I guess that helps.

If every other district is like my district the crossing guard supervisor has been replaced by a police officer. That's right you moron civilians who believe the bullshit given by Rahm about putting 1000 officers on the street. Yes, we have a full duty officer making $80,000 who should be working the streets answering calls for service, yet his/her duty is to make sure crossing guards are on their corners. So Rahm more officers not on the street being hidden doing a non-police function.

I covered many a school crossing in my time. A real no-brainer to be sure, yet one I never minded doing. Id rather make sure a couple dozen or so kids got to school that day without incident than to take the usual 12 burglary to auto case reports that were sure to pour in once everyone started waking up and getting to their cars. And there was ALWAYS, ALWAYS one idiot driver out there who wanted to challenge you at the crossing. If these morons would challenge a copper, I have no idea what they did to the civilian guards. A shit job, doubtless, yet a very important one. Just as I want to make sure mine got to school ok that day, I made sure others' did too. Turn it over to someone that doesnt care? Wrong idea here, guys. Hopefully it doesnt take a tragedy to make people wake up.

How about trying out this novel little idea. Walk you own fucking kid to school to make sure he/she/it gets there safely. Or teach your kid to cross the damn street by himself. I grew up with no crossing guards and guess what? I made it to school and back home in one piece. Stop relying on others to watch, cross, supervise, wipe your kids ass etc etc.

OFF topic: to the media monitoring this site. I know your probably censored by rahm but if you want something big you should find out where our supt. lives. When you do that you might want to file a F.O.I.A request to get the location history of his address. Then maybe see what kind of calls have occoured at his residence. Then after you find that, maybe talk to some people around the rush street bars and the bars up by wrigley. Maybe you will find out something about our supt that is damaging... im not sure though, it might just all be a bunch of rumors..... the question is, which reporter is willing to dig it all up and find out.. You might be suprised the kinds of things you will find.

Interesting about the amount of people at 35th street that know about this. Why not just come out and say the our boss is a drunk and he has many skeletons in his closet. I cannot believe the amount of nonsense goes on with this man. I also cannot believe why no other high ranking boss has the courage to out him.

...and they can do it without being issued with official "SAFETY VOLUNTEER" vests with the City seal, too.

"DOG WALKER." "LAWN WATERER." Has to stop somewhere. Don't expect an awards ceremony -- certificates, plaques, statuettes -- because you took the trash out or washed your face.

Everyone made into a quasi-authority-figure, everyone "empowered" on a weekly basis with a new batch of "Stop The Killing" T-shirts and matching ball caps -- and everywhere, violence, chaos, madness.

The City Of Chicago/St. Sabina's "every man a Reverend, every woman some kind of guard, while the kids shoot each other in the next room" "activist" model doesn't work.

Yeah, "parent" in the singular is an accurate description in many cases. The Disadvantaged are too busy eating, talking on cell phone, getting hair done, getting nails airbrushed for this kind of foolishness. City supposed to take care of the childrens.

Great job by the 009th Dist. officers in arresting that jagoff of a fireman. He does nothing but bring discredit to them. I have personally dealt with him over the years working in 009 and also his kid. No matter what tickets you would write them, they would always walk out out of court and give you a look. He's been dealing dope for a long time besides getting away with a murder a few years back. Everybody from all three watches had a smile on their faces knowing that they were locked up. Didnt happen

Bosses read the blog

District got call from a higher bosses office asking what po assigned as cg sup was assigned to today and who took over duties. secretary called in cg sup, she had no clue what they were talking about. po acting as cg sup called patrol cg unit. cg unit told her all they did was ask civilian cg sups to turn in their ticket books because they are gone after 31 dec.

most civilian cg sups are using up their sick days and vacation days. cg sups have always had to write tickets. (now 2nd watch will have to make up for index).

cg sup tells secretary this she calls higher, asks if a Bop ws issued or some direction. Higher doesnt put secretary on hold but asks staff where they got info from they are heard in background "it was on the blog". He tells secretary "never mind".

The last time I had a school crossing was at 36th & State. A gang banger came walking up to me from the the breeze way and said there was a guy walking across the infield carrying a piece. Not fully trusting this character, I'm already pulling my trusty wheel gun and sure enough, Will walks into my line of sight and instantly does a quick military stance, pounds a round at me and takes off running to Federal with me in pursuit. I had been to the range the day before, had a three quarter squeeze going and felt quite confident I could drop him....but...nothing but a stream of kids coming out of the building where he was running to and ... well...it really would have ruined my day if I nailed a kid in the head instead. My partner was off getting us some coffee so he missed the excitement but a dick who was driving down the street saw it go down and was running right after me. Back up is a good thing to have. The Deuce used to have most cars 10-4 on days and with 3 wagons up and running. Just a retiree reminiscing. It would be fun to see more stories from the real police on this blog from time to time. We've all got war stories, actually way too many and we can bore each other to death with them but at least the trolls and good citizens that visit here can get a little taste of what our job entails. And this was just crossing kids at 8:30 in the a.m. Tell em some of the mid night stories. Time for another bourbon and yes I do have a life that is now far, far away from the 2nd district. Keep safe.

Pretty sad when a people can't live within their means, especially when they make 80k a year.

11/29/2011 09:49:00 PM
**********************************

the last comment would be true BUT
when you have to live in the city because of the residency requirement lets see where 80k takes us when you start to deduct from that
-high gas prices,
-higher property taxes,(5-7k) even after being lowered
-home insurance goes up because escrows are 'SHORT ' due to the home owners insurance and property taxes going up.
-higher insurance premiums because of the shit neighborhoods ( zip codes) we live in
-high state tax ( dont forget we never saw our cost of living increase (2%) this year because the state tax (went from 3 to 5%) wiped that out when it took effect immediately jan 15th!! )and now its probably doubled from avg 1300yr to approx 2700-3000 per year
-federal taxes out of paychecks on avg from 13-17k per year
-and if you have a 2 salary household although it helps, but you have more expenses added to health ins premiums and family expenses.

I'm sure the list goes on and on but if you start to deduct the expenses that are quite overwhelming at times that 80k isn't shit. Everything goes up people except our measely salaries. 80k in a city like ours is no different than making ends meet at 25 or 30k a year. If we could live outside of the city we could save a lot of $$. We live paycheck to paycheck Or are at least 2 paychecks away from maybe sheer financial hardships. Sadly we're human like everyone else, and people seem to forget that. Thats why a lot of if not the majority of us need those 2nd jobs, just to make ends meet or try to live on what is percieved as a good salary at 80k. THANK GOD WE EVEN GET THAT.

Just one of the many of what is now a very short handed dept that used to love to work for and say I was proud to have been a member of one of the finest dept's in this country. wake up people, it cant even be sugar coated.

Some history: Crossing guards were of course patronage jobs back in the day, for the stay-at-home wives of other city/county employees. Another paycheck, another voter in the bag. And they were necessary back when we didn't have Stop signs on practically every sidestreet corner. And they are necessary given the high amount of auto traffic (some kids being dropped at school by parents while others walk) around lots of schools. Like speed humps, roundabouts and other traffic-calming devices, crossing guards would not be necessary if all drivers were cautious and obeyed the law. But since a significant percentage of people behind the wheel are reckless and speed, crossing guards serve a purpose.

Nope. Got em in the alleys too.

WTF is wrong with having 'flip down' stop signs at the schools like the 'burbs do?? A quick search reveals they cost about $120.00 each. No one competent enough in the school to trust with a key, or what??

Skip the $300000+ stop light (that you could put on flashing yellow during non school hours) just go with stop signs, you know, it is for the chillens....

Dude, he's 5. Five-year-olds don't cross Clark Street by themselves, and drivers don't pay attention to signals. Seriously--is it too much to ask that someone who has a job helping children doesn't say fuck every other word while she's working, and does the job she's being paid to do--help people cross a busy intersection and get to school? It's really not that hard.

Dude....then walk your 5 year old to school...or get the other parent to do it.

We don't need a district Cop standing at Clark and Grant Place during rush hour to help the Latin School Punks get Jaywalked against traffic.

We don't need a District cop at Geneva Ter and Kemper Pl Valeting double parked cars for a School.

We don't need PO's from where ever they are detailed doing crossing guard shit...and I don't care if its the Synagogue Schule at 714 W. Grace or Temple Sholom and the two "Oh we're detailed here" cops that stand inside for 5 hours while parents Fuck up Cornelia in the 500 block.

The Dept is watching...

Whats up with the PO on Highland Near Ravenswood? That Chevy with the 2005 special event plates are landing him in trouble, 3 tickets a day from what I saw the revenue dude drop on it.

You do that regularly whenever you go to a Bulls or Bears or Hawks or Sox or Cubs game...cause you don't actually think the PO's that work those events are actually working.

Any and all Expired Special Event plates on vehicles with a Covered vin are now going to result in :

1. Door being opened for VIN access:legal authority granted to PEA's December 1st.
2. TIcket information sent to Car Owners Direct Supervisory LT and Capt or Dept Manager
3. 3 tickets minimum:
Rear/Front Plate Required
Expired Plates or Improper Display of City Sticker
Non-Compliant Plates
4. Tow Order directly called into Streets and San. PO's no longer needed to do a tow order. Revenue Field Supervisors granted authority.

Sounds like they don't need police assistance for anything anymore, if you get my drift.

City's eating itself alive. Not pretty.

Wasn't my idea...

"When i was growing up, one parent volunteerd and the kids took turn being crossing guards. I cant think of one accident."

--11/29/2011 06:16:00 AM

Damn, you're right. "Patrol boys" and girls got an orange Sam Browne belt, it was really an honor, had to be a good student and older, in sixth, seventh, eighth grade, a little more mature to help the little kids across.

Taught responsibility and pride. Can't think of a single accident either.

I think there was one yellow wood sawhorse out there to be used at go-home time -- so many kids lived within a couple of blocks that most of them just walked home, no traffic jam of minivans and SUVs...

That was the old working people's Chicago. I dunno what you call this s__t today.

So, first you call the station and complain. If it doesn't change within the week, you call the station COMMANDER'S office and make your complaint. If no improvement, call the MAYOR's office and beef.
Everyone jumps and snaps to attention when we get those MAYOR's office complaint letters in Department mail and stuff gets handled. Almost instantly.

At least I can feel safe in the shower in 025. The crossing guard Supervisor always liked to spy on officers in the shower.

You never had to worry. You were not attractive enough to warrant the attention.

Stuff can go bad in the blink of an eye, especially at a crowded event.

AMEN!!!

Pretty sad when a people can't live within their means, especially when they make 80k a year.

**************************

yeah, it also sucks when you have two kids in chicago catholic grammer schools and two kids in catholic high schools with one of those getting ready to go to U of I next year.. Yeah, it is pretty tough to get by making 80k a year. If you had a life and were married with kids you would understand... but when you get to save all your money because mom doesnt charge you rent for living in her basement you can afford anything... stroke!

11/30/2011 11:40:00 AM

So, what you are really saying is that the taxpayers should fund you in living beyond your means. Good idea. It is also a good say to teach our kids financial responsibility.

Go ahead, fire away.

Try a free public school. You might be surprised at the quality in your neighborhood school. Of course I assume you live on the north side. South side sucks.

no, I live in mt greenwood. Im not sending my kids to the ag school. Mt greenwood school is very good but had the kids in catholic schools before it started getting really good and dont want to pull them out. Catholic school tuition is a bitch!!!

It is worth every dime. Trust me. Your kids will thank you for it later. When they get out in the world and see what's out there, they will realize the difference it made in their lives.

You said it, sir. When my kids were young, I worked at least one of every two days off I had, and always worked at least one (and usually two) of my 3 day weekends to keep my kids (2) in private CATHOLIC SCHOOLS. And you know what? It was worth all the extra jobs, special employment, the projects, the buses, the tubes, whatever. My kids are both well adjusted, productive, well rounded adults, no drugs, nobody pregnant, and I always liked their friends. When I met their friends parents, they almost always wound up being sheriffs, POs, State's Attorneys, etc.
I wonder why that always happened. I just hope my kids marry men who are willing to work as hard to raise their kids as I did to raise mine.

I spent a fortune on St.Barnabas, Mother McAuley and St. Xavier and a few more colleges when she entered her eight year college program. While she has a good job now I don't recall any thank you's thus far. If I recall correctly, I remembered to thank my parents when they were dead.
