Nicely Done

  • Authorities arrested three people after a West Side shooting led to a miles-long chase on the Eisenhower Expressway that ended near the city border with west suburban Oak Park, police said this morning.

The shooting, which occurred during an attempted armed robbery, was heard by a nearby police officer.

Just before the 5-mile chase, a white Dodge minivan approached three men standing on the street near the intersection of Central Park Avenue and Roosevelt Road just after 9 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

  • Officers from two police districts pursued the vehicle west until the minivan pulled over near the Austin exit and the driver got out and turned himself in, police said.

A suspect in the passenger seat quickly got into the driver's seat and continued west until a traffic jam slowed them down, police said.

The remaining two suspects then jumped out of the minivan near the Harlem exit and fled, but were quickly apprehended near the scene.

The Chicago officers were aided by Oak Park police and Illinois State police, who managed traffic, police said.

Good job all around.

Speaking of criminals: Newt Gingrich says that he will cut all Federal funding to cities that declare themselves "Sanctuary Cities". In case you haven't noticed, there has been a huge influx in illegals and a corresponding uptick in public costs and crime.

Now that the "Cain Train" looks like it won't get out of the station, it looks like Newt is the man. I couldn't stand him at before, but he does know his stuff.

KNOCK IT OFF!

Before responding to "shots fired", the sergeant should have gone back to the station to get his "gear" (whatever "gear" means?: a grappling hook, a Heckler & Koch MP5 with a laser, infrared night scope and a fixed bayonet, leg irons, latex gloves and booties, sledge hammer, battering ram, pinkie ring, a change of undershorts, a roll of toilet tissue, ad infinitum, ad nauseam, et cetera).

An ill-prepared officer could get himself hurt or worse. That's absolutely terrifying. The sergeant was lucky he didn't get himself shot dead by the African-American youths.

GOTTA RUN!

Off Topic:

I saw this on the 41st Ward blog -

Commander David McNaughton,
I’m writing you today in regards to the Nadig newspaper article published in the Chicago Northwest Side Press, today, November 30, 2011. The article is titled, “Burglaries Increase in the District”, and it documents a 14% increase in reported burglaries in the 16th police district from this time last year.
You have sent out many helpful alerts in the last several months listing interventions residents can implement, themselves, to decrease their risks for home and garage burglaries. I’m wondering if there has been an official action plan devised by the Chicago Police Department to deter burglaries in the 16th District. Will the 16th Police District be implementing any new course of action or will there be an increase in patrol officers assigned to the district to deal with increasing incidences of crime?

Let me know if an action plan has been devised and how that plan may be obtained to share in a discussion on the 41st Ward Citizen's Blog.

Best Regards,

Got to love this one. The City is suing itself because of a deal IT made years ago.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/clout/chi-city-sues-to-end-sweet-millennium-park-restaurant-deal-20111201,0,2053469.story

The Park District is a defendant in the lawsuit. The Park District is run by the City with a head who is appointed by the Mayor.

Soon the City will sure the Police Department, then the Fire Department, then Street and Sans, etc.........

I forsee about 2013 Emanuel will sue himself to get out of a deal he worked out for one of his people that works now but wont be working in the future.

Major contract info.

The city is going to use the same tactics on the FOP that they used on the teachers union.

In the next contract the city is proposing using districts like schools. The officer will be an "employee" of the district instead of an employee of the department.

Like principals, District Commanders will have control over "non-tenured" officers. How much seniority tenure requires hasn't been worked out. The DC will be able to "fire" unproductive officers. The officer will then have to apply to a new district to keep his job.

Bottom line, after the new contract there will be no more unit bidding. All assignments to a district will be at the DC's discretion. The only way to move to a new district/unit will be to apply for an opening. Senority will have no bearing until you are "hired" in a new district/unit, then your seniority will count toward watch selection and furlough.

This lets the city weed out unproductive or problematic police officers. If a DC can get an officer out of his district and the officer cannot find a new district/unit of employment, then that officer will not collect a paycheck. He will, in effect, be fired.

The real impact will be for new hires. The downside for current officers is that once an officer moves to a no-bid unit and he is dumped, he would find himself unemployed until he was hired back into a district.

I call bullshit on this one. While I think Rahm would love to have this type of control over us peons there's nary a snowball chance in Hell of the FOP ever agreeing to this. I highly doubt an arbitrator would go along with such a drastic about face as this either.
Thankfully I'm about to join the KMA club and will not have to put up with all this nonsense for very much longer.

John, then frankly, the Bears are screwed. I know all the chit-chat and unintelligent are saying sign the home grown kid, but really, he is done. There is a reason NOBODY put a claim in for him. Orton, completely different QB, and would have been a better option. It did not happen, we know that.

So what do the Bears do? They go with the QB they picked up, who is not much of an option, but at least he knows the Offense. I'll agree with you - McCown does not have the pedigree that McNabb does but, at this point, he is about equal in terms of ability. Mcnabb got old, fast. He got bad, real bad, fast. He did so much but declined too much.

How about this....Let us both hope that the nothing happens to Caleb? If it does the Bears are toast - unless the NFL has a CPD style merit process for teams in place to make the playoffs.

Still love 99.9% of your other posts John - Great stuff! However, this topic, IMO, you're dead wrong.

His career stats are at best, mediocre. At least, I now know that we do have a backup QB.

Still, due to your "unnecessary roughness", our first round is on you, Coach Asshole.
