No Hiring in Phoenix

  • The Phoenix Police Department will extend its hiring freeze to 2015, which means the city would go 6½ years without a new officer recruited to the force.

City officials have relied on attrition -- keeping positions unfilled as officers have left the department -- to avoid layoffs as a way to make up for lagging sales-tax collections dedicated to funding public safety.

Imagine being the low seniority guy in the last class of 2008/2009.

Slightly off-topic but... I have to say that SCC is quite addictive. I can't wait til midnight when the new topics come out, and the old ones get updated.

As for Phoenix...they can't afford to hire anyone 'cuz they have so many illegals draining the system of all their resources.

Seems like every day in this country, between the shrinking number of law enforcement officers and society's reluctance to keep a**holes behind bars, it's becoming easier and easier to be a successful criminal...

The lagging sales-tax collections are certainly due to the fact that home foreclosures in the Phoenix area were near the highest in the country. The recovery has begun, albeit slowly.

And the article went on to say that the attrition is not going as well as planned, because less officers than they expected to retire are doing so.

This is because of the economy and the unsureness of the future. I just hope it does not relsult in layoffs, because the department is understaffed as it is. Just like everywhere else.

The bottom line is the bottom line. If there is no money to pay for more cops, you don't get more cops. Or teachers, or roads, or salt for the streets for that matter.

It's just about all over. You're all witnessing the beginning of the end of this once great nation. The United States of America is a sick and dying nation. This is exactly what happens when you turn the vote over to everyone instead of limiting it to the people that work and have a stake in their country's well being. The filthy politicians are cutting police, teachers, firefighters, etc. Do you ever hear any of them talking about cutting or reforming WELFARE? No? Me either. They would lose too many votes if they did that.

Who would want to work in that suburb anyway? Might as well work in Harvey or Robbins.

Rahm is doing his best to make this a 7500 member department. We had about 14500 when I got hired. We are closing in on 9000 right now. That is a lot of money not going into the pension. That is a lot of money that the city does not have to pay. Where are those savings being used?

These things only happen because we the people allow it. We could send a message from Washington to Chicago by voting all these useless corrupt scum out of office. Fact is we are weary and tired trying to make ends meet and take care of our families. Politicians count on us keeping busy with survival.

Hey, don't lots of retired Chicago cops live down there? Perhaps they could form a Neighborhood watch program for their neighborhood?

Hey numbnuts can you buy gas without money? The answer is no. Thats why we dont hire officers here either. The middle class tax base is leaving. Take the tens of thousands that have left chicago, since 2000. Better get to licking obama's boots. Remember when we got an influx of officers in the late 90's from clinton? Obama is from chicago better start buttering him for some money before he leaves, like all the other citizens did. Cta does it all the time.
