Off-Duty Firefighter Rescue

  • An off-duty firefighter rescued a fisherman from the water near the docks of Diversey Harbor this afternoon while paramedics responded to the scene, according to fire media information.

Shortly before 4 p.m., firefighters were alerted about a person in the water at Diversey Parkway, according to a spokesman.

An off-duty Chicago firefighter, Bill Miller, also was fishing on the dock when he saw the victim fall into the water.

Miller, a 6-year veteran of the department, held the victim up until paramedics arrived at the scene, according to Fire Department spokesman...
Well done.

Speaking of firemen. Whatever happened to the captain?

Taxpayers are still paying that mans wage to enable him to pull rank and clout while busting up CPD officers eh?

...and the mayor wants us to buy the propaganda about having respect for the laws.?!?!!

I don't read our rags so, did they take one of those comical pictures with the guy held up side down from a fishing pole? Because that would be cool.

Your story leaves out important details. Yes an off duty fireman was involved, but he was assisted by M-9 CPD Marine Unit Bt 2333, and Bt 2322 in pulling the disabled man out of the water. The Fire department always likes to leave out the CPD when they have a news conference. The real story is on AIRA.
Just sayin...

Hope they both had their fishing licenses and are in-season or Tiny Dancer and his communist administration will fine them and suspend em' and extract every possible dollar from their pockets that they can find!

Who cares about that jag off CFD captain. He's an asshole. No charges, no suspension, no problem. Revenge comes in many forms. It would be a shame if some neighborhood kids or other undesireables cost him a couple new tires or a window. Watch those baseballs come springtime.

Absolutely! Why worry about a man's life when you can fret over some pencil lines on paper?

Great job, FF Miller! Glad you went fishing when you did!

Not surprised.
Chicago Fire and Police do great and valiant acts on a daily basis.
The 'real' story here is that the media finally recognized and published it.

The victim just thanked PO Storey from the Marine Unit on channel 2 wbbm for helping pull him out with the off duty fireman. Why was he left out of the fire department news conference?

Dear sir, I'm horrified that you would think I care less of a human life, or much less the sacrifice FF Miller has made. I was merely drawing attention to the fact that the common policeman doesn't need to reread the published article of a fireman doing what he does best, on a police blog. Trust me we all know how "great" you guys are. Simply put those lines on paper also mean lives. It's more time away from our families, more injuries that will go unreported, more cops getting spit on and fighting with thousands of ignorant fucks. All under the closely watching eyes of the forever judgmental public. So please sir go back to your card game and wait patiently, the pot roast in the oven is almost done, you've only got one more nap until your next two days off!
