Nice. I don't think I recognize anyone from the Greek Town neighborhood. I wounder how many arrests and I observed open fighting we the police on the scene. A total lack of respect for their fellow man and any authority. RESPECT MY AUTHORITY! So much for the movies were the police show up and everyone stops and puts their hands behind their back. That area of Greek Town is such a late night ghetto mess. It's nothing but thugs after about midnight. Don't go anywhere near that area late night and especially on a weekend night. They should really restrict the hours those restaurants can operate. They bring down the whole neighborhood and bring in nothing but trouble.

Effective immediately all officers will be given a 5 hour "jump ball" training course. Happens all the time there. Greek town is turning for the worse and attracts a lot of the wrong element due to the late night restaurants in that area. 2 gyro places across the street from each other on Halsted and TBK down Jackson all open 24 hrs and I have seen at least 2-3 incidents identical to this within a year.
Same people all the time. The usual suspects. It never fails. No regard for the police our the public.
And the media wonders why taser use is up...be careful out there protect yourself and your partner.

I get to often visit Chicago. There are places in downtown Chicago that I would like to visit but don't for fear that the natives might screw with me. Not out of fear mind you, but out of caution.
After TSA called the cops at Midway on me for walking away from a TSA employee who accosted me (mind you I was on the non sterile side of the checkpoint at the time)my opinion of the airport cops dropped even lower than it was before. Figured I was lucky that they didn't just shoot me.
Just judging from the general demeanor/physical appearance that airport duty is reserved for those who are approaching retirement or are on light duty.
Officer Thomas you were very unprofessional that day. I wish that I could have followed up on the complaints I had against you.

I live a couple blocks from where this occurred. Whoever's knocking cops from 12th, you're wrong. I've lived in 12th for past 10 years-the police presence/response here has been exceptional. Maybe you should focus on bankrolling Supes who come here from out of state to whore themselves to mayor. Or greedy Greektown biz owners inviting crime. We get one nightclub closed after a couple murders/brain matter spattered on our sidewalks (Lake St.)and look where it got us. Animals know the 12th is moving/CPD's undermanned and they're in midst of reclaiming this area as their hood. After dark, it feels a lot like the crappy West side it once was.
For this reason I'm moving out of WL. But as I've recently searched for safer neighborhood to move to, I can't seem to find an area that hasn't had the same ghetto trash ruining it. Where is it safe anymore in Chicago?

You're right, for officer safety sake it would have been better to keep all those fools fighting INSIDE the enclosed space.
What's needed is a LEADER like you to rally the troops. Your inspired words will make up for the fact the CPD is outnumbered and losing 500+ to retirement every year.
Same shit happens on Clark St in 023 every weekend from the 2 ghetto bars. Yet, 023 has 3 or 4 unmanned beats per night on midnights.
This kind of incident isn't new. What is new is the small number of police officers available to handle it.
A few years back at least one wagon and several cars would have been able to respond. Several brawlers would have been abruptly cuffed and thrown into a wagon. Peace would have been restored in 3 minutes and the rest of the citizens would have been safe to enjoy their night.
Now we have no wagons. There were only a few lone coppers out there worried about the mob turning on them and the rest of the good citizens were put in harms way.
But we can all sleep well at night knowing that we are politically correct. That's worth the cost of our freedom to live safely isn't it?

Seemed to me that the guy filming was afraid of being locked up for filming the police, not that he's trying to specifically catch the police doing something wrong. He probably figured, and rightly so, that he risked arrest or an officer "accidentally" dropping his phone if they saw him filming, that's why he kept asking his buddy to keep an eye out.

Hey 012 Sgts and Lts - it is on you guys to end this for your troops. Every one of these incidents should have paper dropped on them. Unknown victim(s), unknown offender(s) and a business license investigation. Make sure to include the name, address, and business license information of the restaurant and bars/clubs where the incident(s) occurred or where it stemmed from. After several documented incidents the establishment can be hit by the City and will be forced into court/administrative licensing hearing. You’re giving the businesses a break when they are contributing to the problem. Yes, it is the savages who cannot conduct themselves according to our acceptable social standards but the business are, as typical just shrugging their shoulders and trying to reap the rewards, while just using the police as their private security force. The cops will get rid of the trouble makers after the business get all of the money. Well, if they want to stay open they will have to hire security. This is both the clubs and the restaurants. Name them both and then set the action into motion to get their licenses revoked. It's a process, but it will start with them having to get some control over their patrons or be shut down. Stop being lazy and blowing it off as an every weekend ordeal that you just need to get through! Step up and do the right thing. Get these places in line and the savages won't have as much of an opportunity. I know doing the paper is a pain in the ass, it’s all bullshit, these savages don’t deserve it, the business aren’t the problem the savages are… there are a dozen or more excuses. I won't Monday morning quarterback because I don't know what else was going on in the district that there weren't enough police to handle this situation. We need more police period. It appears those coppers on the scene couldn't handle all of those people alone.
So sad to see this many young professionals act out of character... right, mary mitchell? I bet, probably, just maybe, if the police weren't there to escalate this particular incident and abuse their powers against the 1's at every chance they allegedly get, things would have remained calm and these young professionals would have remained in their seats, chewing on their gyros, with their mouths closed. Work in 012, yes this happens all the time. It's no big deal anymore. Just fighting amongst friends. Big fights happen since it's open all night long, and after a night of clubbing, why not get a gyro and fight your friends. In that area, it's simple. If you don't want to get hurt, don't go down there late at night to get some food. Just stay home.

From What The Video Shows, The Police Really Dropped The Ball On This One. Some of those inside the restaurant, should have been arrested, and cuffed. The rest dispersed, with the threat of arrest.
Once they got outside, it was a free for all.

i truly believe since Rodney King and how the media ran with the story of the so called police brutality and NOT how mr. I have 15 years with the department and have lost sight of the mission and am no longer dedicated to the effort. Our so called command staff no longer lead. Can't wait to retire.

I live a couple blocks from where this occurred. Whoever's knocking cops from 12th, you're wrong. I've lived in 12th for past 10 years-the police presence/response here has been exceptional. Maybe you should focus on bankrolling Supes who come here from out of state to whore themselves to mayor. Or greedy Greektown biz owners inviting crime. We get one nightclub closed after a couple murders/brain matter spattered on our sidewalks (Lake St.)and look where it got us. Animals know the 12th is moving/CPD's undermanned and they're in midst of reclaiming this area as their hood. After dark, it feels a lot like the crappy West side it once was. For this reason I'm moving out of WL. But as I've recently searched for safer neighborhood to move to, I can't seem to find an area that hasn't had the same ghetto trash ruining it. Where is it safe anymore in Chicago?

The video cut off, we don't know if anyone went to jail or not. This does happen all the time down there on the weekend. Unfortunately one of the Greek restaurants (Parthenon) rents their place out on the weekends after 10 pm for "thug life parties" they've been written up numerous times, all of which is pending. There is also Plush on Madison, same clientele, same problem, a homicide occurred outside last winter; the Victor Hotel at Fulton and Sangamon, same clientele, 5 shot 2 dead last week; Dragonfly restaurant at Randolph-Green, rents their place out on the weekend after 10 pm, same clientele, same problems. There is alot of problems down there on the weekends and a skeleton midnight crew to handle it. If you try to lock eveyone up all the cars would be down.. let them kill each other and don;t rush in to large fights! wait for help!

Up on the Northside the off duties are never off duty. Always carrying and not afraid to challenge anything that doesn't look right.
