Part Time Job Pays Well

  • The salaries of Chicago’s aldermen rise — or even fall — with the city’s cost of living under a 2006 ordinance. But City Council members can forgo the raises and opt out of the cuts in any given year. As a result of those individual choices, aldermanic salaries now vary by as much as $11,000.

How this played out: 19 aldermen who took all the increases on the table and also decided against taking a pay cut in 2010 are being paid $114,913 this year. The three aldermen who declined all the raises have a salary of $104,101. The rest fall somewhere between.

And there's a pension at the end, too.

It's a part-time job. It should be just that. No benifits, no pensions, no raises. In fact, they should get drastic pay cuts. 50 thieves. I hate every one of them .

Seems to me that the first place for the city to trim the proverbial fat, would be cutting the number of aldermen, and cutting their salaries. WHY do they make 6 figures and carry a gun for a PART TIME job? WHY? They're the first to bitch about the police and the first to put their hands out for a raise at taxpayers' expense. So in this current economic climate of looking for ways to save the city money, hows about cutting down to about 10 alderman and knocking their salaries back to say maybe $50K per year? After all, it IS only a part time job.

The forgot to post what we the citizens pay their staffs.
And that they get an annual 6% cost of living increase as well as 5% annually for their staffs!

Do my eyes deceive me or did I just see Anthony Beale's name on the list of aldermen who accepted a raise? This cock sucker wants to take our uniform and duty availability checks away , because the city is broke, but he accepts a raise. If we lose those checks or any other raises I hope the rank and file lay down and let this garbage city self implode.

A good start is culling the herd by half. The rest will be indicted and disappear on their own...

As Alderman Paddy Bauler said many many many years ago..."Chicago ain't ready for reform". How true those words are today.

One alderman has decided to only accept 60K in his first year. That should almost be up, so it remains to be seen what he will do next year.

No kidding, atleast 5.2 Million being spent on Alderman. Does this include the stipends they are entitled too?

But it doesn't.

Yes, and a pension and retirement benefits far better then the police.

Aldermanic supporters will argue that their job is NO LONGER a part time job and that most of them put in well over a 40 week.

The problem with that argument is that most of that time is spent politicing and making appearances and simply schmoozing and glad-handing the constituents so they can continue getting elected and stay on the gravy train with BIG government checks!

Another non-story, if everyone is so disgruntled they shouldve voted most of the dumbasses out. Now everyone is getting what they deserve. Hell a couple of alderman are running the city anyway. I know one thing i am taking my pension south of the border. My prediction is there will be about 200,000 more people leaving due to the politics, crime and patronage, this decade. The tax base is going, going, gone!!!!!!! Oh except for us poor city workers.
