Rahm Reopens Libraries

  • Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced a plan today to keep the city's branch libraries open six days a week by rehiring union workers and relocating employees from the Harold Washington Library to the neighborhood outposts.

And how did he do it?

  • Emanuel made the move without the cooperation of the library employees union, which has engaged in contentious negotiations with the mayor over the plan.

And guess what else?

  • Because the union workers being rehired are part-time employees, not librarians, Emanuel can change their work schedules without union agreement.
So he's busting out the union anyway. Way to go Rahm! If a signed legal document isn't worth the paper it's printed on, well then, who really gives a rat's ass any more?

Well I'm sure there is one person in every city department who voted for him.

The majority of the city must like this crappy mayor. If I can't win in the polls I'll just move out upon retirement.

We are the ones holding the city together, by paying taxes, not using city services and being good people.
They say one vote counts, I say they can't afford to lose one more good citizen. I recommended everyone leave for a better government.

This is a classic example of Rahm busting a Union and the Teachers are next, with us and Fire not far behind.Yet that union like so many others give millions of dollars to the Democrat Party. When are the workers in this state going to face the reality that the Democrats ARE NOT THE PARTY OF THE WORKING MAN! That FDR post Depression era mindset has got to change. If we fail to realize this, we will lose our freedom in more than just the workplace. Mark my words, the Librarians will endorse Obama and Rahm for second terms.

Rahm just moves into the city and raised money. The money just buys votes with stupid no substance commercials. The public just buys into thing politicians care about them. There is only one way for the 40% to win. Move out!

I agree with u that democrats are no longer "the party of working man", but you are dillusional if you think Republicans are also, look at what just happened in Wisconsin, And look at what Daniels wants to do in Indiana ... Stop it with your ignorance... this countries debacle went into a freefall under a Republican president... they all suck, But I will agree with you, that the Democrats currently running this state have to go...

AFSCME is playing this stupidly. They know people are pissed off about the libraries closing, so they're trying to use that as leverage to cover other workers too. This will simply piss Rahm off even more and will cause them 200 times the pain in the long run.

Union contract agreements in this town are not worth the paper they are written on any more. The Racoon is the new sheriff in town and you better not forget it. This little fuck has no sense of honor and will do anything to fuck you to a stand still. You can't insult this little prick no matter what you do. He just sneers at you and dares you to fight him. Fact is the unions have the power to bring this asshole down. WALK OUT. What difference does it make. He doesn't obey the law or contract agreements. What do we have to lose. Fuck Him!

Also, he made it official that he is after "Tuition Reimbursement' It was announced on the news that Rahm found the money for the libraries by deferring tuition reimbursement!

I believe "Tuition reimbursement" will be gone in the next contract for all city employees or should I say city servants!

So, bow to thy Master Rahm!

DEMOCRATS OR REPUBLICANS ARE NOT THE PARTY OF THE WORKING CLASS. Democrats used to be. Republicans never were. Now they are all on the same page...the $$$$ page. Thus all the middle class of this city and country are screwed. We must vote them all out and somehow develop a new party that is FOR THE PEOPLE.

A reminder to those of you who insist on GROUPING the demo-socialist/marxist/communist/muslim sympathizer oboma and his czars, and other assorted leftist cronies WITH the conservative/Republican candidates running in the race for the Primary choice.....oboma IS a demo-socialist/marxist/communist/muslim sympathizer. Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, running for the conservative/Republican presidential nomination ARE NOT socialists/marxists/communists/muslim sympathizers. Go to www.freerepublic.com, also to the websites of the candidates (check google for the links) and LEARN what they stand for, what they plan to do if they win the nomination. Remember conservatives WILL uphold the Constitution, our freedom and liberty....and we plan on making sure that they do.

It IS either a vote for the United States of America OR a vote for commie oboma and the full wrath of his dictoral, tyrannical hate for America's citizens and what WE stand for.

So, who are you with? This election will be the last time you will have the freedom to vote, IF commie oboma has his way.

Vote for the conservative/Republican of your choice in the Primary first. THEN, vote for the winner of the Primary and make sure that oboma IS NOT re-elected. Repeat: support the conservative/Republican and vote for him in November, 2012 election. Remove commie oboma and all the rest of these vermin from OUR White House, from our government. oboma MUST NOT be re-elected. Take back the Constitution, our freedoms and our liberties. No one and nothing is perfect, but socialism, communism, fascism, marxism, islam/sharia law IS DEADLY to our Constitution, our culture, our religious beliefs, to our very lives.

Hey, 07:33, Just what was so bad about the oucome in Wisconsin? The workers can now decide for themselves whether they want to belong to the Unions. The union members actially now have to pay a portion into their own health and pensions(Bet you have always had to), they can still negotiate for salaries, but the taxpayers no longer have to foot the entire bill for health and pensions. And the taxpayers actually received a ceu in takes and the defecit has gone down. The unions only really care that the workers aqre now able to think for themselves rather than being forced into joining,(i.e. the union's money may actually be less) or the unions might actually have to work harder for us rather than upping our dues and spending it for their own benefit. Other than that, they don't care about the union workers. Get a clue. And all those taxpayers, they are also "the working man". Stop feeling sorry for the major unions. They are the ones who got us into this mess.

You must be finally waking up to the fact that the Democrats are only out for themselves. Unfortunately, you are still drinking the Democrat kool-aid. I can't say that I agree with ALL of the Republican platform, but 85 percent of it will help all of us (as well as our country) get back to whao and what we want to be. We can think for ourselves rather than having Washington, D.C. do all of our thinking for us and continually deciding want is good for us. I for one, think I am the best person to make hose decisions for me and my family. If I am wrong, then I bear the responsibility. But at least I will have a choice. If only Chicago could be run the same way.

Rahm and Gov. Quinn will be using these moves on all the unions to subvert contracts and union rules.

Rahm has already done it with the teachers union (offering certain schools a bonus or free laptop to the teachers to change the starting hours), Daley did it with the sanitation workers (work a 4 day week or else) and it will begin with the police and fire next as our contracts come into focus.

The Democratic Party is moving to bust the unions and attempt to lower our pensions and funding to save their votes with the general public. Don't be fooled my friends, they are out to smash us!

Folks, face it: city labor costs are out of control. 68% of the city budget, up about 10 points of the last 20+ years. We can't go on forever guaranteeing government employees (1) high pay, (2) high pensions, (3) virtually free medical care, while (4) being virtually unable to fire unproductive workers and (5) assign duties to existing workers.

The old deal in which government jobs were secure, with great benefits but only OK pay has broken down. Recognize that the rest of the working people in this world are starting to feel ripped off by well paid, well benefited, totally secure government employees.

Keep ranting on that we're getting screwed, and we're going to REALLY get screwed. If more gets out about how, say, IOD works for us - stand back, bar the doors, we're done.

But it was okay, when I took this job and made eighteen thousand dollars a year, when comparable private industry jobs were in the mid-twenties.
And, it was okay, when my college classmates were warm, safe and dry in their little cubicles, making twice as much as I was, with great pension contribution matching programs and day care centers in the lobbies of their booming corporations.
And it was just peachy when I was missing all the family events and destroying my sleep patterns and they were moving up the corporate ladder, golfing twice a week, sleeping soundly in their summer homes, with golden parachutes floating happily over them.

But now that the company life has gone sour, now that the bonuses have gone south, now they begrudge me my secure little job and my pension? Really?

It actually appears that this is completely within the bounds of the contract to do it the way it is being done.

It may appear like a sneak attack, but it also appears to be well within the constraints of the contract.

If ever there were a union that needs to be busted, it is AFSCME. These lazy retards would be living under a bridge if it weren't for their union goons. There is no more extra money in the city budget to pay for this.
