Another Bright Idea

  • A super-maximum security prison in Downstate Tamms that human-rights groups contend is inhumane and a women’s maximum-security prison in Dwight face closure under a proposed spending plan that Gov. Pat Quinn’s administration described as “the toughest budget we’ve faced.”

The governor’s intended mothballing of those two facilities comes on top of his planned closures of two youth-detention centers and six secure halfway houses, the latter of which could result in the early release of as many as 1,000 inmates into the general public, the state government’s largest employee union predicted Tuesday.

That "crime is down" bullshit won't survive a month - just like last time Quinn released a few thousand inmates early. That spike left a trail of bodies across all of Cook County.

Close down all the fucking jails. Let these criminal assholes roam the streets until we can kill them off. Quinn doesn't give two shits. All of these self serving politicians have plenty of body guards. Why should they worry.

Great!!! W T F?? This means more violent convicted parolees on the streets causing havoc, and crimes against police officers. Simply a bad decision. How about closing a few other prisons besides Tamms and send prisoners to Tamms. But that make sense. Tamms is a state of art detention facility a real Prison. Illinois is soft on crime period!

I used to work at one of the DJJ detention centers and morale was already extremely low. I can't imagine how unsafe of a working environment it will be now that they will have to take even more kids now that Joliet is closing. All the other centers were already near or over capacity.

Why not rent those prisons to the FEDS to house all (a few) of the ILLEGALS in the sanctuary state.

Rent them to the FEDS and BLOGO wouldn't have to go to COLO.

I'm a citizen who is pro police. I guess I just want to say we need you. The system is bending you over and I get that, but while the corrupt politics aren't going to change overnight, and those of us trying to make a difference always get the short end of the stick, we the citizens need you. Here's a dumb question is there anything a citizen can do to help make whats so wrong right? Many of us are on your side and appreciate you risking your lives to keep us safe. Stay blessed stay safe and may God watch over all of you.

For the record, I voted for Brady, as did my wife and son. I take no responsibility for anything that Governor Jello comes up with. Good Luck, all you Quinn voters.

Rather than eliminate SSI for the high school dropouts that don't work or special needs thugs that don't even go to school, Quinn will close the prisons where his constituency eventually wind up.
What a way to save money.
And Quinn still won't fix the pension deficit problem and really believes a high speed train to St Louis & Detroit is going to save the Land of LINKon.

What a pathetic creature this governor has proven himself to be. Illinois spending in 2012 will exceed 2011 according to the official budget proposals. This Quinn guy is flushing Illinois right down the toilet with his altruistic, empathetic ethos b.s. this guy is a real monster.

This piece of crap Quinn continues to rip and run all over the best interests of the State of Illinois.
Now there is no Death Penalty, so he closes the most secure super-max prison in the state, as well as the main Women's Prison in the State. How many Jobs will that eliminate?
The Budget is no excuse--how about cutting off some of the handouts to bustouts? One of the legitimate purposes of Government is to implement the Criminal Law. More criminals out on the street is what we get from this guy.
What these Democrats are doing is criminal.
Thanks you idiot Democrats for continuing to give us these criminals.
Un-fucking-believable!

Someone is going to get seriously injured or worse at one of the IYC's sooner rather than later.

These thugs are handled with kid gloves as it is. Bed space is already hard to come by and during the day the classrooms are well over capacity. The shrinks they pay to monitor the kids are taking them off their meds so the state won't have to pay for them.

You've got kids who are bipolar and off their meds crammed in classrooms they have no interest in being in all day. What could go wrong in that situation?

Stop paying for link cards. Get people that don't deserve public aid off it. Kick out people that test positive for hard drugs(junkies) or are convicted felons(Dealers/Bangers)out of free public housing. There will never be any incentive to get off welfare and get a job if u can sit on your ass and make babies for free cash, housing , food & beverage. until these things happen.

Ya, well when the budget deficit goes from over $5 billion to well over $8 billion you have to come up with more stupid s&#t. And big business is fleeing the state. Of course you could always blame it on the Police pensions, you know, those awful things that neither you or shortshanks made the required contributions to for YEARS.

i think that quinn is really slow you are going to let out inmates that have killed probly more then once. you should be trying to let the ones that got non violent crimes go and house the killers in their space. my husband is in jail for robbrey but has not hurt any one. and they are not even trying to let him go. LET THE NON VILONET INMATES OUT KEEP THE FUCKING KILLERS IN.
