Cop Shot - Will be OK

  • A police officer was shot in the hand during a scuffle this afternoon on the city's South Side, officials said.

The was taken by police to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in good condition, said Larry Langford, a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department.

Citing preliminary information, authorities said three Calumet Area gang enforcement officers were on patrol in their squad car when they responded to a call of "shots fired" near East 67th Street and South East End Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood.

The officers saw three males run by their car, prompting two of the officers to get out and chase them on foot. The two officers were able to catch up to one of the three males, authorities said.

As the officers struggled to detain him, they noticed he was carrying a gun in his clothing, authorities said. That individual was able to grab his gun and shoot one of the two officers in the hand.

Meanwhile, the second officer pulled out his gun and opened fire on the shooter, wounding him three times, authorities said.

The officer who was shot suffered a "through-and-through" wound to his hand.

Get well soon Officer. Good shooting by the partner.

From a troll: Good piece until the last sentence. "Good shooting?" The offender was shot three times and wounded. I am sorry, wrestling with an armed offender who pulls a gun from his "clothing" and shoots and officer deserves three in the ten ring of his forehead. I am sick and tired of the human gang banging street thug garbage that permeates the shitty of Chicago. And tonight at 10 I will watch the news and a buch of dirt bags will be on Channel 7 trying to put two coherent sentences together explaining Jermain didn't hang with no gangs. He was just out getting his momma some chips and was hurrying home because he heard shots and was scared. But hey, I guess being shot three times and wounded is better than nothing. I hope the wound does not end the career but on second thought, maybe it could be a good thing and will allow the officer to get out of that shit hole.

We reckon The Police WILL continue to take care of business when it comes to going home to their families at the end of the tour in spite of the implied consent given by the "smart set" at City Hall & 35th Street that it's OK for attacks on Policemen to continue both in the media and on the streets...

As long as there's no attention paid to the epic theft of the tax-payer treasury and the endemic criminality & culture of elected officialdom and local media protecting, providing cover and running interference for the perpetrators...

The Great War Against The Police and all their concerns continues.

Glad The Police are ok.

Take your time to recover Office...

The circus will be in town for a long time yet. You won't miss a damned thing.

Protect yourselves and protect each other. Police like you have no friends. Everything else will take care of itself whether for good or bad... The Policeman didn't break it and it's way beyond The Policeman to fix.

Not sure why mama/grandma was in the area to witness this, but she needed to work on her acting ability, no crying, screaming, etc., just matter of the fact.

He saw two cars drive by and never stop to assist, took action and let everyone know that would not be tolerated. Your life may depend on another officer some day and would want them to just drive by. We need lots more like him and from what I understand the po's on first watch no longer are going to be able to do nothing, there was a changing of the guard. Hold on boys and girls the real bosses are coming back. If your unhappy im sure 005, or, 007 would love to have you. Umm, we can't just do what we want anymore. Down 2 cars, the wagon is a beat car and wonder boy gets busy and makes sure 2 more cars are down on his arrests and then wonders why he can't get backup on a Friday or Saturday night? While I applaud his initiative, I condemn his timing. He routinely gets busy when we have downed beats and then we get really short because he finds people to arrest. I'm not whining here, I do the work as it comes, but citizens calling for service have to wait because no one is available to answer calls and I mean WAIT for an hour.

He could clown like he does if we had enough officers on the watch, but we DON'T. The only thing we have enough of is Sgts. We got those, we just don't have cops in all the beat cars.

OT: Any truth to the rumor that the city is contemplating 20 and out regardless of age? Is that even possible without changing state law?

The city has no right to change anything in the pension code nor can they. It has to be done via Legislation in Springfield and that will never happen... You will still have to work.

"...has to be done via Legislation in Springfield..."

Remember what Rahm tried to do recently via that dickhead rep from Oswego. That was because the money in the Pension Fund was mostly from taxpayers and Rahm needed to have the total majority on the board to watch out for taxpayers interests.

I asked public meetings of professional people "Would you want Rahm to have total control of your pension?

Response: HELL NO!

We need to keep a close eye on these thieves and make them FEAR US!

P.S. Good job and get well officers.

In defense of 1720r and all officers out there.....,He took action.... we need lots more like him .....there was a changing of the guard.... Most of them have never been anywhere but 017,
----------------------------------------------------------------
1720R RN was ordered to take action and do the write up by Lt Serb. Otherwised he would have ignored it like so many F ups under his supervision! We have plenty like him on this job that blame blue shirts for all their own failings and never have a promising word for anyone but themselves! What change asshat Serb was here before as a Sgt. No change here just a return but unlike Capt Dumbpuck he took a stand and ordered (the 13th district PO made Sgt been in 017 since) RN do his job for once!

"Through an through"? More TV garbage. They make it seem like nothing. "Just a flesh wound'.

Think about a hole in your hand good citizens. Think that hand will be much good for the rest of your life?

This is what we go to work looking at. The possibility some thug will kill us over nothing and a Mayor that thinks of us as a problem."

AMEN Office! People and the media take way too much for granted the abuse and injury that POs are subject to on a regular basis.
Thank you and Thank God for all the men and women in Blue!
