The infighting that might have killed efforts to re-start the South Side Irish Parade appears to be over, after parade organizers Friday hammered out a safety plan acceptable to both sides.
“Everything was positive,” said James “Skinny” Sheahan, the man leading the pro-parade push. “It was a great meeting. We’re all set to go.”
Ald. Matt O’Shea (19th), who refused to support the parade until he was sure it wouldn’t be overrun with drunken ruffians, agreed.
Politics as usual by the usual suspects. 11 March is the tentative parade date.

Hey SCC, 019 "closing", around the same time as 021, around Mar 4th. Going to building at Addison/Halsted, which will be new "019 Town Hall". Already been told no lockers, not enough parking spaces in their parking structure, no one from 019 is to go to 023 and try to find out what's going on with cars, start times, etc...,and told that people will not be guaranteed that you will even work with your current partner(s). Bad enough that they are closing districts and screwing people over that way, but to find out that you can't even work with your partner really boosts the old morale. Rahm, I hope you die.

Another fine example of tax and fee those you know will pay. How come the gay pride parade or bud billiken does not have to pay for city services, or hire private security, have a security plan, all the hurdles SSI parade was made to jump through. All the naysayers and O'Shea did was play into the city's hands and line the pockets and coffers more from those they know will pay. But if you are black you can have a parade that lasts all weekend and ends in violence at washington park or if you are gay have a parade that lasts all day and is 10 times worse than SSI parade for stupidity and not pay a dime or have a problem.

What a mistake. It's all about the self interest of the committee. Making business connections, prancing politicians, and putting money into the pockets of liquor establishments.
There are many people in this neighborhood who don't want this thing to happen. Despite their bullshit "we held public meetings" stance they never publicized any meetings nor asked for input from the community. Any opposition is ignored or glossed over. It's all about a bunch of 4th generation pretend Irish wanting to walk around in their green sport coats and act important. There are people inside of that committee who think that the "plan" sucks, but they are so afraid of Skinny Sheahan and his connections that they won't stand up.
Why don't they just stay in the bar at Beverly Woods and tell everyone who comes in how important they used to be.
Keep your fingers crossed boys, but remember this: if anyone gets hurt, or it turns into the cluster fuck that it will become the fault will lie with you and your group of self centered, limited interest faux big shots.
This is a good thing. The Irish are hiring private security, now it can be brought up, why dont all parades do this. Think of the bud biliken parade and all the others

What does bother me is the media attention this has received by documenting poor behavior of some past participants--most of whom were shown to be suburban, and decidedly non-Irish. Why isn't the same "investigative reporting" conducted for the Bud Billiken parade or the Puerto Rican parade-week. Those events are atrocious wastes of tax money. Racism lives and it's directed at whites.

All parades fall under 1st Amendment, and shouldn't have to pay for anything other than the cost of the permit. But to charge one group and not others? That's horrible. This is going to get interesting.
Any off duty copper who works this or any PUBLIC event should be considered a scab. Any post manned by a civilian or off duty officer at a PUBLIC is a post that should be staffed with a member of the local police department. It's no different than a non union electrician working a job because there are no union guys available. Scabs, plain and simple.
I'll bet that if all goes well, Skinny and his syncopants will ba all over saying "see we told you it would go well". If it goes to shit or someone gets hurt, which I hope does not happen, will they shoulder the blame? I think not.

Everyone can thank Alderman Tunney for the lack of parking. Tunney insisted on reserving some of the parking spots in a police facility for "the community."

Thank you!!! I'm grateful that we live far enough from the parade route that we don't get people peeing and/or vomiting on our lawn before the parade even starts, unlike some unfortunate friends who live within a few blocks of Western. That's what THEY have to look forward to on parade day.
We'll just have our street parked up for a few hours. But taking Metra to get away won't really be a workable option, because the trains will be loaded with many of the same morons who were brawling, then peeing and vomiting on lawns, houses and garages closer to Western. Really classy.

Do the persons sponsoring Puerto rican fest or Mexican independence day events have to secure $200,000. for their events which needs massive police presence. Not to mention the stabbings, gang fights and shootings I've witnessed at p,r. Fest Or is it the same old song , the same people always being tapped by the politicains to pay up just because they have it, while others get a free ride
Let the parade go on, glad they are bringing it back. Yeah they drink and get drunk, so what. Go to 019 or 018 on any given weekend and deal with all the drunks and fights . Go to a cubs game when all the drunks take over Clark st. and cause massive trouble, fights etc. Help go to taste of chgo. and drag your family thru a gang fight and shots fired, or any wk end on the west side when the illegal parties empty out and the fights are going and the whole dist. manpower is being used, etc etc there is so much more. Fuck the haters, let the parade begin!!!!!!!!

Get your facts straight. The Bud Biliken parade is really, really fucked up. Followed by the Peurto Rican fest in Humboldt Park that is a magnet for all types of gang bangers. The South Side Irish parade isn't even in the same league as those two.

I worked all three and none of the two you bitch about have open alcohol, people walking around with cups of alcohol or public displays of drunkeness like ssi. We are even told to ignore it. I cant park on my block, I cant even get to my home if I leave if I was lucky enough to leave. The ssi is tolerated simply because its ssi. Fact - we the people who live in that community dont want it there because of what I stated above. Keep your blinded racial bullshit to yourself. All parades have issues but shit, the ssi couldnt get it together, we advocated to get rid of it, we did but a bunch of no nothing asshats who dont even live there whined about it to placate the minority of business owners who want to make that cash.

Gay pride has now easily become the worst event. Just as much drinking if not more than SSI parade, but a lot more (hard)drugs and a lot more people. It's a party of the politicians voting block so they allow it. SSI parade doesn't have the voters so they fuck with it.

Did YOU "ignore" it while you were at BB or PR or Gay Pride. You have to be blind then, or not paying attention. The FACTS douche bag, look at arrests, look at calls, look at the seriousness of the calls.
SSI parade is a pain in the ass, but so is New Years, 4th of July, or any other Holiday you work. NOTHING compares to the BB or PR parades. Cinco De Mayo had their problems, but not like the BB or PR.
Pray for rain... And I'm Irish. Cancel all parades. Save money.

I am Southside Irish and I agree with you.
At first I thought there was going to be a Social Security Disability parade. Then I realized South Side Irish. But then, I'd guess there's a lot of crossover between the two lists - people falsely claiming injury in order to get paid for not working and southwest siders.
SSI parade! I thought for a minute this was something else....Never mind
Skinny Sheahan has a financial interest in a liquor store on the parade route on Western Avenue? Could that be why he wants so badly to see the return of the parade?
Sheahan couldn't find Ireland on a map, or name how many counties it has, or how many are occupied by the British still today.
But he sure knows how to make money off of the sentimental Irish descendants here.
To all those calling the residents near the parade "babies" - I chose to NOT live in the ghetto so that I wouldn't have to be affected by ghetto issues like crime and public drunkenness and disrespectful members of the community. Why should the residents be FORCED to put up with this behavior? Do YOU like having to keep YOUR kids inside so they don't get pissed on, thrown up on, have a bottle tossed at their head, or watch completely rude and indecent behavior that wouldn't even be shown on MTV?
