Most Miserable - Again
- It just wouldn’t be February without Forbes Magazine yet again slapping Chicago with the distinction of a place on the Most Miserable Cities list.
This year, Chicago is coming in at No. 6 on the list, for essentially the same reasons as Forbes places the city on the list year after year after year.
“The Windy City is a cultural and financial center, but its residents must endure gridlock traffic, high property taxes and brutal winters. Commute times to work average 31 minutes, eighth worst in the U.S.,” Forbes says.
Chicago actually climbed a spot up (down?) from number seven last year. The reasoning last year was the massive tax increases at the city, county and state levels, the blizzard and the Cubs. This year it seems to be a continuation on those themes plus the general malaise of being saddled with the most incompetent political leadership imaginable.

How the hell did Miami come in first as the "Most Miserable" city? The Governor of Florida is a Republican, and the Mayor of Miami is a Republican, and Florida is a Concealed Carry state. Miami isn't a miserable city, it's Utopia!
Sincerely,

Off topic, but can anyone from 016 give me the scoop on what's going on near Beaubien school? Tons of back and forth King and Aztecas graffitti in the area. Is this just punks tossing paint around, or has there been some violence occurring? Any info would be appreciated.
wait till those speed cameras come to town. Thanks Rahm/Quinn every person with a ticket should remember that these two chose not cutting govt spending and waste, and once again stuck it to its citizens/voters....
At the poles oust these two in fact oust all incumbents.. SEND A MESSAGE
heh..ya think commute times are bad now just wait till the speed trap money cams take effect.
Next year we'll be #1! We're movin' on up Weesie!
having rahmbo as mayor and mcboozer as head of police department should have catapulted us to the top--- but we do have the bean, 100,000 gangbangers, the highest murder rate in the u.s, good beef sandwiches, and good pizza--- sorry, I still want to get the fuck out of here as soon as I can....
Light at the end of the tunnel. Need one more year and I'm outta here...good luck to the rest of ya.
Speaking of miserable...
are we EVER gonna get to see the J-Fled-commissioned "Morale Survey"?

Let's recall Rahm and run Jane Byrne.....
Chicago college offers class on Occupy movement
Thirty-two undergraduate students are enrolled at Roosevelt University's "Occupy Everywhere" class. It's a three-credit political science course that looks at the movement that started last summer near New York City's Wall Street and spread nationwide.

I don't sleep anymore.
Night after night I wake up after 4 hrs and stare st the ceiling. I think about work. What's changed, what's about to change? Where I will report tomorrow? What exactly are fellow officers and I going to face with G8?
I think about the drive I now have across the City to work in an area that doesn't like me because of the color of my skin, but that's OK with their clergy. So, I guess preaching hate is alright now.
I think about the property tax bill I just got that is triple what it was 7 years ago, the water bill that has tripled, the State plate and City sticker that has skyrocketed as well as the bill for the toll roads I use to see my kids grandparents.
I think about a Mayor and a President who have told me I and my family are the least of their concern, not only as a Police Officer, but as a middle class working stiff.
A Mayor and a President who have told me that people in this Country illegally, and people who have no desire to better themselves will get the lions share of my tax dollars. That crime will come to my neighborhood so we can keep gang bangers from shooting themselves in their neighborhood.
I live in Chicago, Illinois. I work hard, keep my property up and spend time with my kids to make sure they are productive members of society...and I don't sleep at night anymore.
Quinn won't win again. He signed in the speed cameras and I'm sure everyone is already fed up with too much government. Now families will be straddled more after being fined for 6 mph over the limit. ENOUGH. Vote these politicians out.
Will these bs cameras be on timers? How far away from schools and parks will they be? Again the middle class takes the hit for gov. mismanagement.
Is it a lie? Traffic sucks, the cubs suck, the politicians suck, the weather sucks and property taxes are too fucking high. The only good thing this city has to offer is the pizza. Oh yeah the rear wheel chevy tahoes suck too.

Because if the first month of 2012 is any indication, gas prices will be breaking records and motorist piggy banks by the time May rolls around. Chicago gas prices ended the month at $3.60 per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline for Janaury according to ChicagoGasPrices.com. That's 27 cents higher than January 2011 and an all time high for the month according Patrick DeHaan, petroleum analyst for the gas price tracking website's parent site, GasBuddy.com. Nationally, gas prices are 32 cents per gallon higher than last year.
Expert expects gas prices in Chicago to hit $4.60 by May
BY GARY STRAUSS
Updated: February 7, 2012 8:39AM
Get ready for another round of pain at the pump: gas at $4 (or higher) a gallon. After rising 19 cents a gallon in the past four weeks, regular unleaded gasoline now averages $3.48 a gallon, vs. $3.12 a year ago and $2.67 in February 2010. And prices could spike another 60 cents or more by May.
“I think it’s going to be a chaotic spring, with huge price increases in some places,” says Tom Kloza of the Oil Price Information Service, who expects average prices to peak at $4.05 nationally, although he and other industry trackers say prices could be sharply higher in some places, such as Chicago.
THANK YOU OBAMA

What about the Cubs?

They neglected to mention the disgrace of Chicago-style politics.
they forgot to add the ''out of control'' violence on the south and west sides of the city.
most incompetent political leadership imaginable
------------------
I can imagine worse. Think what could happen if Obama style leadership was the norm everywhere.
At least the Rahmster understands the money bucket is empty and government is going to have to see some cuts, and has even started to make a few cuts around the edges.
Scc, although our politicians, politics, revrends, gangbangers etc suck how about sometime focusing on the good things in Chicago. Kick ass restaurants, bars, architecture, good people, reasonable property taxes verses suburban, universities and cutting edge hospitals and medicine. I believe that my parents who had near fatal medical emergcys are alive today due to the mirical of modern Medican afforded to us in this city. If we lived elsewhere I'm convinced that they might not have made it.
keep raising taxes!
Has anyone ever wondered why the governor or mayor aren't embarrassed about the fact that Chicago Illinois continually has the highest gas prices in America?
I was not aware nor have I seen the statistics that we have a sudden and drastic increase in the number of children being struck by motor vehicles in and around schools and parks. It seems interesting that schools and parks are the one common factor if one wanted to place speed cameras all over the city and use a ruse in order to justify it. The claim is that this drastic measure is to counter the conditions that threaten "the children". Maybe they could validate the argument with any statistics. Yeah, I guess it is co incidental that an ancillary effect will be the financial windfall i.e. "money grab" to the city for the alledged yet unsupported "protection of the children". A recent poll suggested that 90 percent of the people surveyed are against the speed cameras. Is this the will of the people being done.
I think not. Tyranny defined as "oppressive power exerted by government" seems to be alive and well and living in Chicago..
An observation from a no time on the job Sgt.
In every case from Blago to quinn, daley to rahm, bush to obama and weiss to mccarthy I think we have taken a huge step backward.

Does Mike Madigan's brother in law own a traffic camera company?
That's the only reason I can think of to allow this debacle.
And now we all know why Illinois doesn't have a recall law.

The little sh....ads are riding bikes in front of oncoming cars around the school and park and making them stop and then yelling gang slogans.
16 is so short of PO's they don't even have a Commander!
The entire city is just a haven for gangs, illegal aliens and racist reverends.
I think that I retired just in time, the house is for sale, I'm outta here!
Maybe I'm missing something. What's the problem. People shouldn't be driving fast by a school or park.

The best part of election, ALL the votes for gubernatorial election (from the whole state)were counted at Shitty hall. So, now 'ya know.
"How far away from schools and parks will they be?"
I guarantee that the circles drawn around schools etc will be big enough so that there will be damned little of this city where they WON'T be putting them.
We live very close to several schools, so I am guessing that we will be reamed real quick.
10 most miserable U.S. cities of 2012
No. 6: Chicago
The Windy City is a cultural and financial center, but its residents must endure gridlocked traffic, high property taxes and brutal winters. Commute times to work average 31 minutes, eighth worst in the U.S.
*Now add all these silly Nazi-style camaras. Just stealing money out of peoples pockets with no due process!
**They also forgot to mention: the worst CORRPUPT City and State in the country! Most Democrats here need to be in JAIL! Starting with the Governor, Mayor and All Chicago Aldermans!
I can't even bring myself to root for the local pro teams anymore! I can't wait to leave this dump for good!
This is a horrible disgrace for the formerly great Windy City.
However, I know for a fact that 9.5Fingers, McClueless, the storefront Revs, and all the rest of the great Democratic Party stalwarts are working 24/7 to make sure we hit that #1 slot.
To: 4:48AM,
Sorry this stuff bothers you, I was a 21 year old policeman going into the Democratic Con. not married, no kids living with parents so I had no responsibility's and didn't care. Besides we were just coming off the King Riots so we were looking for more adventures, life was good for 42 years of vaudeville.
I would say at G8 or anywhere watch your back, we had guys that would go to jail before giving up their partner or any other policemen. In today's day and age I would doubt everyone from sgt. to super. and all prosecutors both state and federal, remember their lawyers first just like whores and stool pigeons. Learn your rules and regs. and know the law and you can get yourself out of most problems. If you go head to head with a supervisor or prosecutor and know your shit you should be OK. Hope those days are few and far between or don't happen at all. Go home to your wife and kids, cut the lawn and stay out of the gin mills cause there aren't any decent ones left in this city or burbs that have any ashtrays. GOOD LUCK
Hey, we exported that incompetent leadership to Washington DC; now everybody's got it.
OT: I am one of the limited duty cops. I took the new order to my Dr. and he sees it and says "who is the idiot that came up with this? How can i say you can do full duty stuff when your condition does not allow it?".
Bless him and may he write a letter that confuses the fuck out of HR. Yep it is not the medical section that is denying limited duty, it is human resources. You know, the place with no Drs. or medical staff.
Miserable?
Quick, everyone pop over to Shaved's site and have a look at the new city sticker. Boy, is our worst enemy trying to play up to the first responders -- new city sticker with police and fire hats and EMT logo.
Emanuel makes me puke.
Was this sticker actually designed by a Maniac Latin Disciple, and are those the gang's hand signs on the sticker?

Northlake blowing up now -- I noticed s__t being thrown up in the parks there this summer. I heard mention of "automatic weapons being used" on TV for this story...
Northlake man, 18, dies after being shot while sitting in living room
7:33 a.m. CST, February 7, 2012
"An 18-year-old Northlake man was fatally wounded this morning when shots were fired through his living room window, officials said.
"Police responded shortly after midnight to a call reporting gunfire on the 200 block of South 45th Avenue in the western suburb.
"The victim, identified as James Romero, was taken to Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park where he was pronounced dead, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office..."

Northlake man receives 18-year sentencing for Lombard home invasion
By Sarah Small, ssmall@mysuburbanlife.com
Lombard Spectator
Posted Feb 01, 2012 @ 04:46 PM
"Jesus Hernandez, 36, 233 E. Dewey Ave. was sentenced to 18 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for breaking into a Lombard home in 2010, according to DuPage County States Attorney, Robert B. Berlin.
"On Oct. 30 at 1:30 p.m., Hernandez broke into a home in Lombard, armed with a BB gun and wearing a ski mask. The owner of the home and his teenage daughter were both home.
"Hernandez handcuffed the man’s hands behind his back and ordered him to lie on the floor. He also duct taped the daughter’s hands.
"During the break in, the daughter was able to escape and call 911, and Hernandez was arrested later that day by the Lombard Police Department..."
Like SCC says, the "superpredators" are just getting started...
"They forgot to add the ''out of control'' violence on the south and west sides of the city."

Quiet. No one needs to know that at least half the city is a dangerous "no-go" zone, as bad as anywhere on the planet. They'll find out when they get on the wrong bus.
What can you say about a place that apparently has gang symbols on its city sticker?
I hear some say, I have a year, others say two years to get out of this hell hole. If you look at the pension fund, it is just a matter of a few years when the realization the Fund will be tapped out, will hit like a kick in the guts.
No one seems to see this matter with the urgency that it merits.
If We the FOP don't keep the pressure on the thieving politicians we're just allowing ourselves to be casualties of the woeful ways this, state, county, city have been run.
To Alderman Matt O'Shea. Thanks for supporting one of the biggest speed traps, which will be in your ward.Between the Ag High School and mt.Greenwood Park, which abut each other on 111th St,there will be a 20m.p.h speed limit between 6 oclock in the morning until 11 oclock a night btween Pulaski and Central Park.Good thinking ahead numbnuts.

Good restaurants with no parking and huge crowds. Then walking to entertainment places avoid the flash mobs and purse snatchers. There are also great hospitals just outside the city. Nothing you wrote makes this city liveable. How to see you on the front lines in may.

2/07/2012 11:26:00 AM
Cuts around the edges? Do you mean cutting the pay of police personnel, closing stations that will save no money but cost in the move and reorganization, cutting CPS, CHA and CTA salaries, and fighting to cut pension benefits for all city workers while raising the pay of special employees, raising the pay, stipends or expense accounts of aldermen who serve a part time job with a 80% pension after just a handful of years? Is this the edge you are talking about? Or are you talking about the astronomical increase in property taxes for homes Chicagoans have lost over 50% value on? Or the increase in fines and licenses for average Chicagoans? What edge are you talking about? The little people are the edge and we are hammered while the waste continues.

I totally understand how you feel. I hope you are exaggerating about not being able to sleep however. I am pretty sad about this City as well. It is too expensive to go to Navy Pier or to the Museum because I can't afford the parking. I can't even enjoy the city I was raised in. That's sad. All my money goes to taxes. Unlike you, I go to sleep because I dream of one day living somewhere I can enjoy my life. Here I can't. If you are serious, please get some help. We want you to sleep well. One day you and your family can leave to a better State.

boys and girls keep working hard so rahm and mccarthy can move up the latter on ur blood and sweat. the children are finally gonna be safe now that we have speeding camera's.
comstat is also the answer for policing once you buy in to it..lol
lets face its...welfare rats and phony reverends..ruin the city..you cant give them enough..quit most of welfare programs and let mutts move to another city.
Oh man, now they're just rubbing it it!
Miserable alright. Sad and true.
Didn't need to pull the EAP alarm.
I do cut the lawn and hang w/ the family. Kids negated the need for the ash tray these days. Thanks for the concern.
I spend most of the time staring at the ceiling thinking about ways to get someone else on the fifth floor, in Springfield and in my alderman's office. These guys gotta go.
Coppers are good guys. I like my co-workers.
Not the Chicago of the hardworking, but the Chicago of the suckers. We can't live where we choose. We are indentured to live within the city limits.
Our money is disappearing to taxes and mortgages. The ones who can enjoy the architecture and great restaurants are the connected weasels and alderfools.
Little business and restaurants come and go because they can't afford rents, taxes and their customers can't park to pick up a pizza.
The charm and hardworking grit is all but gone.
I too will have to accept this and leave.
Chicago Nevermore
