- Police officers and firefighters rescued several people, including a critically injured 3-year-old girl and a man using a wheelchair, from a North Side apartment building Friday, officials said.
Four adults, including a police officer, also were injured in the fire in the 2300 block of North Clybourn Avenue that began in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment about 8:30 p.m., authorities said.

Will Summits be the Political Equivalent of Woodstock?
The Occupy Chicago group has announced that they have rented a warehouse within “sight and sound” of McCormick Place, the main venue for the G8 and NATO Summits. Another group has called on its members to come to Chicago for the entire month of May to protest.
Plans to reasonably accommodate groups of law abiding protestors will be necessary for a successful event and may serve to calm the masses. After all, the international reputation of the city is on the line. And protestors are a part of the story and will be closely covered by the media.
The Chicago Police have a challenge on their hands, but the 13,000 strong force is more than capable, despite local media coverage citing the police as largely untrained to handle violent or mass protest.
Chicago has many events in its past where crowds of more than a million have been successfully managed. In terms of sheer numbers of people, the Summits will be nowhere close.
As what might be the political equivalent of Woodstock bears down on Chicago, the following comment was taken off a popular activist website:
…people from all over the world will flock to Chicago, set up tents, kitchens and peaceful barricades …we’ll pull off the biggest multinational occupation of a summit meeting the world has ever seen. And if they don’t listen … if they ignore us like they’ve done so many times before …we’ll flash-mob the streets, shut down stock exchanges, campuses, corporate headquarters and cities across the globe … we’ll make the price of doing business as usual too much to bear.

Can't find any video or link. It was on CLTV and Randi Belisomo was the reporter. They did not like having a WHITE commander OR so many WHITE officers. Guess they don't realize that black officers don't want to work there either.

Why not try this as a crime reduction strategy. Black officers in black areas, white officers in white areas, hispanic officers in hispanic areas etc etc. Chinatown might be hurting a bit, but they tend to take care of their own jagoffs anyways. Please allow me to jump in and congratulate these fine officers.
People who read, some of these posts, may get the impression the Police, are heartless. When the chips are down, and people need REAL HELP, most officers will be tripping over one another to get there.
Fear not! Field Marshal Kirby, with ZERO street experience will control the situation! The 19th Ward Merit Hack has already embarrassed herself and the CPD with the suburban Chiefs meeting where they all agreed, there is NO plan and that she is clueless.

The reason there are so few Black Coppers in 007 is for a couple of reasons. One is the academy does not assign Officers to a district where they live in. Another reason is that when they get the chance they bid out and go places like 022, 018,019,001 and so on. They get sick and tired of dealing with the B.S. their "Brothers" cause. They would rather go elsewhere and deal with the White Man instead of the play reverends.
And I cant say I blame them.

My in-law dispatches school buses and said that they were hired by various Hispanic groups to transport bus loads of illegals to Malcolm X College this weekend for organizing, and protester training in support of the Dream Act during G8/NATO. They COULD accumulate the same number of protesters that they had here a few years ago that clogged Lake Shore & Michigan Ave.
These summits are going to be a lightning rod for every group of people in this country with an ax to grind or to voice their dissatisfaction on every cause and topic that exists on earth.
Chicago will be a flashpoint of political anarchy that will burn for the whole summer and NOT just May 15-22.
Strap yourselves in boys and girls... it's gonna be a hell of a ride!

Finally a commander with some brains and common sense. Carothers is nothing more than meritorious political hack! Who disrespected every officer in 7 leading them to a 30 percent increase in crime! This is what afrimative action gets you. If you arenot qualified or plainly can't do the job yOu should NOT get the job or promotion just because your black!

A black cop should be allowed to work in any district he qualifies for based on seniority or clout. For example let's say his brother is a former alderman serving time in the federal crossbar hotel. Just sayin'.
Seriously, many veteran black officers pick the more middle class districts that contain or border parts of Hyde Park and Chatham. A quick commute makes up for some of the hassles.

With all the problems in Englewood community, I can not believe that the reverends chose to focus on the race of a commander. In Martin Luther King jr. "I had a dream speech" he clearly stated that a man should not be judged by the color of his skin but the content of his character". I guess these reverends have turned there backs on their leader in an effort to keep chaos and confusion within the already dispearing community of Englewood. These reverends need to shut up and let Commander Schmitz do his job.
Protestors oppose appointment of police commander in Englewood
Protestors gathered outside the Englewood District police station Saturday angry over the appointment of a new police commander.
First off, there were about 7 "protesters." If this was reversed, there would be a civil rights investigation launched already by the "G" and the liberal white people would be at the station supporting the new commander. This piece of crap city and its South and West side residents make me want to puke.
Stand your ground Superintendent and show these Fake Ass reverends that the time of them running this department is over.

Did you ever think with all the new retirees and soon to retire maybe a front page about retirement? With questions like where is the best place to retire for coppers? How do the retired coppers feel about retirement? How many feel they retired to early? to Late? Do the pension checks come on time? Do you think the pension checks will be enough to support you until the grim reaper visits? Has the union been responsive to retiree issues? Any problems with the 55 and out health plan? Are you "happily retired?" Do you feel you need a part time job to keep your spirits up? how is the spouse reacting to your retirement? More arguing? Is the pension funded enough to keep paying? Does Mike Shields respond to your phone calls and pension questions?
Sorry to ask this SCC, but many coppers I have spoken to after retirement seminar would like questions like these answered from the retired coppers,not from some suit telling us "all is well"?
