Media Misses Connections

  • When police arrived at a dangerously overcrowded club in Garfield Park early Friday, they found utter pandemonium that included a fight, two car crashes and a man shooting wildly into the air.

Police were called about 1 a.m. to Brick’s Sports Bar and Grill, 4422 W. Madison St., after a patron called to complain of dangerous overcrowding, [...]. When officers arrived they were not allowed inside and the doors were locked, trapping all the patrons inside.

Someone eventually got the doors open and patrons streamed out, [...]. Police counted 273 people leaving the 99-person-capacity club, but had to stop their count because a man was firing shots in a parking lot across the street.

  • At the same time, two women were fighting and one got in her car and tried to leave, [...]. Several patrons tried to stop her, resulting in her crashing into several parked cars and hitting one patron, who was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

Pretty cut and dried - out of control club, drunks and guns. Then we opened our e-mail:

  • SCC,

This "club" has been a big problem for a while now. It's been opened under a bunch of different names and has never had a club license. 011 shut it down a few weeks ago with another few hundred people and no licenses.

The trouble is 28th Ward Alderman Jason Ervin is connected to the club - you remember Ervin? The son of retired commander Claudell. The owner keeps dropping his name. Last time she got locked up, Ervin was on the phone with the Watch Commander within the hour. Ervin even had his inauguration party at this club. The patrons love to threaten the police, too. When 011 shut it down a month ago, the fine citizens told the officers that "This is why you burying your own, you fucking with the wrong people."

How long until there is an E2 type disaster at this club? They keep opening and flouting the licensing board because Ervin is their clout.
Bulldoze the building? Or bring the heat on Ervin.

A lot of "rev'runs" and alderfools owe ol' Claudell a solid for constantly running interference whenever their bad-assed little bastards got lagged by The Police for UUW, PCS, PSMV or dammit, the ghetto trifecta...

Who can forget the sight of Coppers typing up GOCRs with bandages while family members of the offender(s) were having coffee and yukking it up in his office?

That might explain why Coppers weren't given shit for recognition on his watch when A LOT of dynamite Policing was (and still is) being done in 011.

There are a ton of nightclubs and businesses in this city operating with some type of criminal activity that continue to remain open - all thanks to city hall.

The police are always hitting these type of places and making arrests/ANOVS, whether it be for drugs, alcohol, prositution, gangs, etc - or some type of license violation.

We all know of locations with repeat violations and arrests, every week or every month. And how many of these places are ever closed down permanently - none. Why? City hall keeps these places open for the revenue. A slap on the wrist and a fine = thats all that happens. But who gets blamed when shit hits the fan - we do.

If Chicago had true investigative medias, they would pull the records of many of these repeat violator locations and find a "straw" owner, who is always the connection to why this corrupt city lets the place remain open.

Hard to believe one of our upstanding Ghetto Alderfools might be on the "take". This place could be another E2 in the making. Rev. Jesse Jackson had his greasy greedy prints all over that one. Cops Shut Down West Side Club

Chicago Police shut down a party early Saturday morning after getting a report of a person with a gun and arriving to find an unlicensed “social club” called Cash Money on Deck.

The group – also known as CMOD – was described by police as a motorcycle and car club.

The club occupied the first floor of a building on the 3400 block of West Lake Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. Upstairs was a church.

The ET lounge was owned anc controlled by gangs and the commander knew it and refused to take enforcement action against the club. Theyhad two back rooms where they had parties, all unlicensed. The problem with private clubs in Chicago is the Dept. of Revenue does not want to take enforcement action and no one backs the police officers on the street. These private clubs are nothing but unlicensed and untaxed taverns who think they can operate 24/7. The state charter is just the start of what they need to do to become a true private club. Selling alcohol is only a small part of this. Yes, clout reins supreme. In west side precints where alcohol was banned by voters, the private clubs were everywhere and most protected by tact Lts., district commanders or alderman.

You newbies have no clue.

You want to cry to the alderman for help? You want to bring "heat" on him? How? From where shall this heat come? The media?

For all the TV news you guys watch, here's something you have yet to realize. No one gives a shit. No one cares if the ghetto alderman panders to the ghetto voters. No one cares if he hangs at da club, or fucks da bitches, or smokes da rock. No one outside his ward cares and everyone inside loves it.

The club causes you problems and you want to cause them problems. Here's how.

Make it clear to every piece of shit dealer and robber within four miles that it is open season on the club. When a club member is shot, chase away all witnesses, write a vague or otherwise completely incorrect case report, and never again ask anyone what happened. When a club member is robbed, write in your report that the victim was so intoxicated he could not provide a description of the offender. Stop all dealers within a block of the club, but never stop them as long as they deal directly in front of the club. DUI every patron who leaves.

Think outside the media box. Just because something is on TV or in the paper doesn't mean you got even. If you are going to get even, then get serious and really get even.

The city and police department could care less if there is over-crowding anymore. Sure, they pretended to care after the E2 incident but now, nobody does. The safe limit for people in any club is usually a couple hundred people. Most clubs are packed to the gills and when the police are called, it's a quick 19-P.

Most club owners either know the commander or alderman or someone who knows someone. Another tragedy waiting to happen.

The city since Daley II has made it impossible to have a LEGIT club.
People are going to go somewhere.

Where are the places now that years ago produced entertainers like the Cotton Club, or the Club Alabam which produced Jazz Greats such as Louis Armstrong and Cab Calloway.

These places had rules, they paid taxes and they kept the peace because they had an investment to protect. They attracted the gang element of that day, but a popular highline club was neutral territory so best behavior. And back in the day, they took care of the police, if you know what I mean.

Send in the Dept. of Revenue investigators, these guys don't need warrants or consent to search. I remember about 3 yrs ago on a summer night they were having some type of party next door at the motorcycle club and I was a Sgt. in MSF, we went there at the request for help and wound up at this bar, We went in, had a few problems but locked up a whole bunch, towed and ticketed cars parked up on the sidewalk, etc. You see the problem arises when certain ethnic group members think that because they may know the Alderman or reverend that the police have to fear them, they further think that because they have a job, any job that this along with heavily starched pants and shirts and a car with armour alled tires and just been washed look, entitles them to Fuck with the Police, threaten with the loss of our jobs, law suits and other bashings that they should be allowed to act like animals in the wild. I say to this, let these people cram all the bodies they want into this club, let them shoot each other and fornicate in the parking lots and reak havoc onto their own kind. I hope I don'T sound prejudiced but I have had enough bashing of the police by ignorant people of all races other then white, Sorry that's the way I feel and this is in no way the feelings of my fellow officers.

The licensing unit has as much expertise on license violations as any officer. The licensing unit in CPD today consists of 7 officers total.

Seek out Revenue investigators at least two days prior to your team planning on hitting a joint. They will write all the violations and video tape the place and put a cease and desist on the owner that night.

The revenue that city hall generates comes from the repeated fines that these unruly places must pay. And that is why the city never officially closes these joints - they create revenue.

You don't need a search warrant or consent to search on a business establishment. You can do a license check at any time..Duh

Did the media miss something?

Or did police officers who choose not to mention anything to the reporter?

The reporter clearly asked about previous incidents.

An anonymous email or better, a signed email which you ask to be off-the-record, can do wonders. But it has to happen quick, since they're unlikely to revisit the story a day later.

your syntax is perfect for meeting the current standards the msm is holding their 'reporters' to.

as is your mindset.

Where the hell do you work? A license premise check means verifying business licenses. It doesn't give you the lawful authority to search the premises. You do need a search warrant or consent to search.

I thought about telling the good old "Sgt" the same thing. But I have gotten multiple arguments with retards over this and the "probable cause" they need to write contact cards.

sometimes former retired show up at community meetings to act like they still have power over the current commanders
this would help them in the business community where they once controlled what place was closed down , ticketed etc
if you get my drift

Claudell Ervin was the area one commander and he had a connection to the Bulls. A detective went out and purchased a professional ball for his child which Ervin said he would get Jordan to sign. Guess what....Ervin got no signature and kept the ball. Real class ass.

Yes, because you can only walk into a tavern check the license and walk out. Nevermind if there is prostitution, gambling, narcotic sales, minors, etc.
Because the police cannot do anything but walk into a tavern to "verify a business license"

4-60-141 Illegal conduct on licensed premises – Cooperation with police.

(a) No licensee shall permit or allow any illegal activity on the licensed premises.

(b) It is the affirmative duty of a licensee to report promptly to the police department all illegal activity reported to or observed by the licensee on or within sight of the licensed premises; to answer fully and truthfully all questions of an identified police officer who inquires or investigates concerning persons or events in or around the licensed business; to cooperate with the police in any such inquiry or investigation, including the giving of oral or written statements to the police at reasonable times and locations in the course of investigations; and to sign a complaint against any person whom the licensee observes in any illegal conduct or activity on or within sight of the licensed premises.

(c) For purposes of this section, “licensee” includes an employee or agent of a licensee.

Blah blah blah. This is exactly the point. You do not build an investigation based on what you call plain view. Not to be offensive, but your response is exactly what the problem is with todays police. Uneducated/inexperienced on how to build a solid case. This department is way too young and led by even younger.

"Build a solid case"?!? You are watching way to many episodes of Law and Order. This is Chicago/Cook county. You could present the CCSA office with a "rock solid" case and they would plead it out to a municipal ordinance violation. You are an asshat and not the police, so GFY.
