"Vigilantes" Stalk Detroit
- The people of Detroit are taking no prisoners.
Justifiable homicide in the city shot up 79 percent in 2011 from the previous year, as citizens in the long-suffering city armed themselves and took matters into their own hands. The local rate of self-defense killings now stands 2,200 percent above the national average. Residents, unable to rely on a dwindling police force to keep them safe, are fighting back against the criminal scourge on their own. And they’re offering no apologies.
“We got to have a little Old West up here in Detroit. That’s what it’s gonna take,” Detroit resident Julia Brown told The Daily.
The last time Brown, 73, called the Detroit police, they didn’t show up until the next day. So she applied for a permit to carry a handgun and says she’s prepared to use it against the young thugs who have taken over her neighborhood, burglarizing entire blocks, opening fire at will and terrorizing the elderly with impunity.
When government fails, it is an obligation for the citizens to take matters into their own hands. Detroit failed a long time ago. It could be argued that Chicago has already failed Englewood.

I wouldn't say vigilantes, I would say innocent citizens are protecting themselves, possibly for the first time in their lives. God bless them, and hopefully God will bless the ordinary citizens of Illinois with the ability to protect ourselves without the fear of being convicted of exercising the right He, God, has given each of us.
Thankfully I can carry a weapon (IROCC) being retired. So many of us are at the mercy of these fucking Thugs roaming our streets. How sad our elderly must cringe in fear in their own homes and depend on a gutted and over worked police force. Let citizens arm themselves and be able to protect their homes. Fuck these out of control rat bastards that prey on us all.

You have that wrong SCC its not when goverment fails that the citizens have the right to defend them self. Citizens have the constitutional right to defend them self and when some are unable or unwilling to defend them self then the government should have the authority to step in and help protect these poeple. the goverment is given the power to enforce the laws that the majority of the people want enforced, not what some politician and thier special intrest group want.
I work in englewood, and what is currently going on should have happened long ago. The amount of police that are in the area right now targeting specific things is making a difference (it's up for the courts to determine how long that difference lasts). The officers who are there now have resources to make things happen that beat officers do not. Please continue the good work. I can only speak for myself, but I am happy to have you guys and girls here.

The arty crowd hasn't had much luck with painting murals and hanging colorful banners on the walls of abandoned factories -- and there are only so many "galleries" and "performance spaces" you can build where once hundreds of thousands of people worked for a living.

Chicago's South & West sides are worse than Detroit right now. We have lost the war out there. Our Mayor must take notice and stop all the political BS and hire more police. Our force is not only dwindling but also aging rapidly. We need help out there to take back our streets. There will be another mass exodus of police officers on 15 April and again on 15 May. We are going to lose an estimated 600 more officers this year alone. We are going to dip below 6000 very soon.
Raccoon eyes still doesn't believe in the 2nd Amendment even though Chicago recently paid out nearly $400,000 in a 2nd Amendment case. Give it a rest Raccoon. Your city will be better off.

This is part of the problem with citizens defending themselves. Assuming that it is a good shoot and determined that the shooter was an intended target for some thug(s), why would the investigating coppers call the ASA office? The cops may not think that charges are needed but we all know that gun hater Anita Alvarez office will always try to screw an innocent civilian who uses a gun to protect themselves. Don't give the ASA anything unless you have to.
I don't believe that vigilance committees are operating in Detroit. If they were, the gangbangers would be fleeing like rats leaving a sinking ship. In the Old West vigilance committees organized and targeted specific criminal groups and activities for elimination...one way or another. The problem being that the committees sometimes used their own activities to settle scores.
What is happening in Detroit isn't "vigilanteism." It's plain folks fighting back.
