We Only Read the Articles (SOS Again)
The April Playboy magazine has a lot of articles in it. There's a guide to 2012 music, a "Walking Dead" feature for the zombie fans, a visit with Mick Fleetwood for the old timers, an interview with Bruno Mars for the youngsters.
Oh yeah, there's also a rather large interview with imprisoned ex-cop Jerry Finnigan. We don't see the point in linking to a paysite you can't access without a password, but here's a few paragraphs to pique your interest:

- There was once a time when the image of the SOS was anything but threatening. Back then, Special Operations referred to the CPD equivalent of kiddie rides: horses for mounted cops, bicycles to patrol running paths or boats to monitor the waterfront. Because these were cushy assignments, they tended to attract children of the brass - hence the nickname Sons of Supervisors.
- As Finnigan started his second stint at the SOS, his cop friends were not so much concerned about the supervisors above him as they were about the cops alongside him. "Suddenly he became the old guy," one says. "Everyone around him looked him looked half his age. He didn't have a peer to calm him down. And sometimes Jerry needed to be calmed down."
The article describes a cop gone rogue in the worst way. Finnigan also spreads the blame around, with Herrera and Hurley (deceased) taking a lot of the blame, along with indicted co-conspirators Maka and Pratscher. Unindicted, but left hold a bag of shit, include Officer Burzinski, Sgt. Eldridge and ADS Tobias & Kirby. The article ends up being almost seven full pages and cleared up a few questions we always had about the scandal. Of course, you have to remember, Finnigan is doing 12 years and anything he says has to be viewed through a veil of suspicion anyway.
Oh, and there might have been a picture or two of some naked people in there, but we only read the article.

The crazy thing about this is that there are Animals on the streets that actually felt safer when these units were around. Sometimes I get hey office when SOS, MSF , or forty #$@4boys coming back. People were actually afraid of causing chaos in the hood. Now no one gives a fuck cause they know not enough police out there!
In two interviews with PLAYBOY and nearly 100 pages of letters sent from federal lockup--where he was held in solitary confinement--Finnigan has revealed much more SOS illegal activity than was previously reported. He names 19 SOS officers whom he saw steal cash and personal possessions during searches, and he alleges that many more members of the unit routinely committed civil rights violations.
He further charges that commanding officers knew about the stealing and that the civil rights violations were condoned at the highest levels of the Chicago Police Department.

Finnigan has pled guilty and is serving his time so he really has nothing to gain at this point by lying. He has the same release date no matter what. Its nice to see that all the gold stars that had anything to do with it have been two or three times promoted since.
Theres Jerrys money when he gets out of the joint.
Herrera's interviewed was chopped up after a judge order, so we got to see some of it, but not all of it. To this day and there's nothing to convince me otherwise given how supervisors get protect (example Johanas - one of the many), Tobias should of been indicted and sharing a cell with Burge. People especially a police officer does not go rogue on their own. Happens but not by itself.

Tobias and Kirby do not look good and we all know Kirby only did what Cline demanded.

A boss would've made an even bigger splash and the feds are all about splash. Jerry's just trying to make a little $ for his family. I was there in the early 90's and I will tell you one thing.. The motherfuckers on the street had fear and respect for us.. When the 4300 & 4400 units were in the hood shit got quiet because the shitheads knew we were there and if they fucked up..... Well..... THEY fucked up.

well, the statute of limitations is just about up if its anything after 2005. anything before 2005 has run its time if it has to do with extortion, theft or official misconduct. Civil rights violations would still be good but alot of time has passed and it would be a tough sell for the feds to pull a police related civil rights beef now. The only thing left the feds could go on is RICO which this case is not. For the feds to do a RICO case would be next to impossible at this point. pretty much, this is finnigans "last laugh" fu*k you cpd and everyone else. Jerry, just go away. How could all the bosses know nothing? They always pride themselves on "being in the know" and having "their fingers on the pulse." How could this be? When great things happen they tell the world how they "spearheaded the operation" and "directed their officers."
Yes, he was right on by saying that tact/gang teams hated it when they were in the districts, because the majority of the time they would start something then leave, so then the district tact/gang teams had to deal with the tensions that they left behind.

I was prior SOS and there was some great Police officers there. We avoided JF and his nonsense and did good police work!!! Say what you want but when someone fought the police or let alone shoot the police, we hit that area hard, Nonstop, so they would understand we won't tolerate that bullshit!! Now these animals don't give a fuck, they spit and laugh at us because everyone is scared of these bosses and cameras. Gonna be a long bloody summer ladies and gents, man your guns and hold down the fort.

Here is his reason to lie:
He is a narcissist. It's what got him in trouble in the first place. He loves the spotlight. It's his last FU to the Department and the people that put him in jail. He flames a bunch of bosses he feels should have been beholding to him and all he did for them (hah). The whole narcissism thing again.
He points the finger at the Department and the men and women he always thought he was better than. Of course he was smarter than all of us! He is a career criminal and now he is where he belongs, in prison.
He never barely covers his 'crew' of thieves and how HE stole money from dope dealers. He just points the finger at the rest as if to say: 'It's not my fault. I was just one of the guys caught up in this thing that was bigger than me'.

your right, the bosses did like to know when a bunch of guns and dope were recovered due to police work. Do you think that jerry walked into the commanders office and said, hey boss.. we got a uuw, a kilo of coke and stole 50 grand in cash and only inventoried 10 thousand of it. all in all boss, a good day... I dont think so. Jerry did his deeds under the guise of police work. He would hit a house and lock the dude up and inventory a thousand and skim the rest for himself. Nobody was the wiser as to what happened. The money beef world come down the pipe and they would look and see that money was inventoried and the dope dealer couldnt prove anything. Jerry didnt go around telling people he was stealing money. There were beefs that were coming in and they kept getting unfounded because they were exactly that..unfounded. Yes, we now now they are true and then im sure people had a little clue that it most likely was true but you couldnt prove it. The only way you were going to actually catch him is if you set him up like the feds did. States attorney charged him without doing any of that and the states case fell apart.. the feds picked up and had to kick a field goal and get him on the lesser charges. If the investigation was handed to the feds from the get go jerry would be doing 25 to life easily. so would hererra, suchocki and the other idiots. The bosses did know that jerry was doing police work but i highly doubt they openly knew he was robbing people of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Many of us who were plank members of SOS came from the Gang Unit. Our first day in gangs the Specialists told us, "No one gets a play. He has a gun, he goes. He has dope, he goes." Let the prosecutors cut the mutt a deal if they want.
The day he took the first dime is the day he became the enemy and quit being the police.

Thats only if a judge applies it in his sentencing.

It's an age-old practice; get out there and "do whatever you need to do", but when you get caught, the bosses "disavow any knowledge of your existence" and jump right on the "acting beyond the scope of his duties" bandwagon.
Anybody who's been on tact, gangs, SOS, MSF, TRU or any alphabet-unit should know this.

You really do have to take a step back and read between the lines. Maybe Finnigan is full of shit. Maybe not. But I've been on a long time and have seen corruption scandals from the Marquette 10, PacMan, 002 Tact and so on. Almost always tact or specialized units are involved and I'm sure that bosses "suspect" what is really happening and just look the other way. I don't think Finnigan is as full of shit as most think.
You all know Jerry talked ! He only got 12 years... Sgt Billy Patterson from PHS got 35 years.... I wonder if Jerry learned the Rabbit ears trick from Billy.
Lots off coppers believe what Jerry Is saying, the only ones who do not are in denial or yet to be in cuffs.
