More Casualties
- A mother and a 1-year-old were grazed by bullets Sunday afternoon in the South Side Chatman [sic] neighborhood.
The shooting took place at 3:22 p.m. near the intersection of 79th Street and South Maryland Avenue, police said.
Police and fire officials did not know the condition of the 1-year-old or the mother. The child was taken to University of Chicago Comer’s Children’s Hospital, and the mother was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center...
Well, it is Chatham after all.
Anyone have the grand totals for the bloodbath that was this weekend? Middle of March, technically, still winter, and we're hitting our mid-season form already.

I had to retire very early 12 years ago because of an injury that ended my 20+ year police job. I still miss the circus, but don't miss the clowns.
As soon as I had the chance, I moved from the city and now live just over the border in WI. Nice and peaceful, no political problems to speak of, took me 10 days to get my CC license (got it because I can!), can buy ammo and guns at Wal-Mart, no taxes on food, etc., etc.
There is another world out there besides Chicago!

I was reading a piece that claimed in Jan 2011 Chicago had something like a total of 141 shootings for the month.
This weekends figures, since there are usually four weekends in a month would push that number to what...160+ shootings per month should they continue.
All the mayor AND the city council are concerned about is how to monetize and use this crisis. I don't think they want it stopped. They want to use it to create yet another money grab. Let's create a gun registration database and punish all the law abiding legally licensed and registered gun owners and take their money. March out the bloody children and use them as tools again to win the hearts and minds and sympathy of the voters.

Even if this assertion was true, and I am not saying it is or is not, just what would you have him do about it? He does not set the department budget that ultimately is what determines staffing levels.
Given the poor financial condition of the city, it is likely that there will not be any hiring sprees as some have suggested is necessary. The city just plain has no money to pay for it.
And consider this. Suppose the city found the money to hire 1000 new cops. Just getting them all hired, thru the academy, and then thru field training would likely take at least 2 to 3 years. Are there even that many on the current list? If not, how long would it take to get that many qualified people even available to go to the academy?
There just are not significant numbers of new bodies in sight.

TODAY, Sunday, March 18, 2012, as I was driving home I OBSERVED a very distinct looking GANGBANGER who was outside the house located at 5211 S. NORMANDY. I do not know his name YET, but this is what I have so far.....
He is a male/hispanic in his 30's, bald with the exception of a portion of hair at the back of his neck called a "shag" with tatoos up and down his arms. He lives there with another male/hispanic (mexicans) who is younger with the same hair style.
THEY ARE LATIN SAINTS with connections to 45th and Wood AND Summit. They drive a FORD FLEX, dark blue or black in color and a older model Nissan Maxima, beige 4 door.
THEY ARE CONVICTED BURGLARS! We've had a recent spike in home burglaries but have nothing to go on. These burglaries have occurred early in the morning after people have left for work.
THERE HAS BEEN SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITIES AFTER 10PM, with auto traffic coming and going from that house. THE ARE RENTING and have been there no more than 2 months.
BT. 811 and other police know about them already....I just don't have their names yet but I heard the younger one is nicknamed "FERBIE" and they are dealing weed (marijuana) from that house.
PLEASE BE AWARE OF ANY ACTIVITY FROM THAT HOUSE AND CALL THE POLICE! CALL THE POLICE IF THEY ARE ON THEIR PORCH, RUNNING IN AND OUT OF CARS AND THE HOUSE, ANYTHING!!!!!!
I'm going to continue telling everyone I know and will be working on contacting the landlord. WE MUST GET THESE GUYS OUT OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD. With this kind of activity, it will only create a dangerous problems for our children and property.

At least 10 people were killed, including a 6-year-old girl, in shootings over the weekend in Chicago.
The slain were among at least 49 people wounded in shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday, according to information compiled by the Chicago Tribune.

McCarthy did tell Wysinger at a recent compstat meeting that the department needed more sergeants and lieutenants, and his staff was probably doing the homework for that, but don't get your hopes up
the city is beyond broke and promoting 30 lieutenants-unheard of, and 50 sergeants isn't going to happen any time soon. Most lieutenant classes in good times were 20 or so, and a slightly higher number of sergeants.
Quit buying into rumors. Why would they promote lieutenants when they took all of the watch commander pay and responsibilities from them and gave it to sergeants?
They are talking about getting rid of area and tact lieutenants.Don't expect any promotions until the fall or next year.
The plan is to promote meritoriously. No more million dollar promotional exams.

McCarthy did tell Wysinger at a recent compstat meeting that the department needed more sergeants and lieutenants, and his staff was probably doing the homework for that, but don't get your hopes up
the city is beyond broke and promoting 30 lieutenants-unheard of, and 50 sergeants isn't going to happen any time soon. Most lieutenant classes in good times were 20 or so, and a slightly higher number of sergeants.
The last Lt 's class was 30. Unheard of???

It isn't 'sad' that we ask them where they stay. It's survival. Your brain can go numb trying to get the address of where they sleep.
Once you've asked 'where do you live', six times, and heard 'whatchoo mean, you wants to know where I live, or where I stays?' a few times, you learn not to waste your time.
It's much easier to ask 'where do you stay' if you want to know where they put their head on a pillow. If you want to know what their legal home address is, you ask 'where you get your check'?

And what YOU need to know is, those three little letters were not in the post when it went up, though they did appear sometime overnight.
Not only did the post say Chatman, for some reason WBBM newsradio and Channel 7 said 'Chatman' earlier yesterday.
So, it sounds like the original source misspelled it and everyone else ran with it. Carry on.
