Hey Look! Truth in Reporting
- Two teenagers were charged with the murder of a 6-year-old girl in Little Village who was likely caught in the middle of a gang shooting, police said Sunday.
Juan Barraza, 18, and a 16-year-old boy charged as an adult who police would not name, have been charged with murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm in the slaying of Aliyah Shell. Both teens are said to be affiliated with the Latin Kings street gang, police said.
But look what else they wrote:
- Police described members of the family as gang affiliated. Police are investigating whether the suspects were gunning for members of a rival gang, the Two-Sixers.
And this is just shocking - not shocking that it occurred, shocking that the Tribune reported it:
- As relatives and friends passed through the Springfield Avenue home, they walked past a lone pink stuffed bunny on the steps to the home. The Two Six gang uses a bunny with a bent ear as its symbol.

We assume the Tribune will be taking that portion of the report down shortly - they always have in the past. We also assume that Becky Schlikerman and Jeremy Gorner will be lectured by editors about reporting the actual truth - it's a big "no-no" in Chicago.

The report I got was the male that was on the porch was a known 26 gang member. The father of the child is also a known 26 gang member. It they want to hang around with, associate with, reproduce with, etc known gang members then I don't feel one bit sorry for their loses. Sorry to say but I just feel that way. The original story had an unidentified male on the porch with the girl, he was the target. So, we could handle a demonstration during G8 and Nato, but now we CAN'T handle it when it's only Nato.
Methinks a bit of reality has finally set in at City Hall.
Heard today (3/19/12) ON WGN RADIO 720 NEWS.
An Occupy type protestor was quoted as saying they were planning on several police officers dying during the upcoming NATO Summit. When pressed by the reporter he did the tap dance and abada abada routine.

That copper got too involved in what was happening outside the hospital.
Ordering those reporters off of hospital property should have been done by hospital security. That is what they get paid for.
Copper got too involved and then ordered reporters out of the street.
Who cares if they are in the street or not. Had he left them alone, we might be looking at a injured or dead reported that got run over.
If they are impeding traffic order them onto the side walk.
I know that that area has two different medians but who cares if they get run over.
Too bad the copper didn't just stick with "I am giving you a lawful order." Then cited the traffic issue instead of making himself look like a fool.

True until the reporter brought even more attention to the incident on his show on a radio station Sunday for two hours and yesterday as a guest on another show. Today there is a link on a national news website. This reporter made the horrible incident about him.

Coppers are people too; they get upset, angry at scenes like shootings, bad accidents, etc. -- often angry that some poor guy's dead and they can't help him. Try to be calm and go along. Just don't want someone else getting hurt in a turbulent situation. You will always get your story OK in the end.
