Murder #20 for March
A 6-year-old girl was fatally wounded in a shooting in the Little Village neighborhood this afternoon, one of four people injured in separate shootings throughout the city in less than an hour today.
Just before 4 p.m., a victim was reported shot in the Little Village neighborhood and taken in serious-to-critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, according to fire media information.
The girl, age 6, was shot in the abdomen and hospitalized in critical condition following the attack in the 3100 block of South Springfield Avenue, according to Police News Affairs. Details were not immediately available, but the Cook County medical examiner's office said the girl shot on Springfield Avenue had died at Mount Sinai.
We assume that we'll be "declaring war" on the latin kings in short order, completely disregarding the fact that we're engaged in at least two other wars of "obliteration" and haven't a snowball's chance in hell of making an impact on any of the three ongoing conflicts while Englewood racks up 4 shootings a night, Austin pitches in with two or more and Fillmore contributes a steady diet of mayhem to the cause.
The other shootings were in Gage Park.
And again, it's only March? Holy crap.

1 shot in Da Deuce this afternoon and at least 3 other bona fide calls of shots fired. Couple of guns recovered. According to multiple police dispatch reports, a full blown riot erupted in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood.
Around 12:30 a.m., 911 received a deluge of phone calls reporting a huge brawl at the intersection of Belmont and Clark.
One emergency call indicated a male victim was bleeding from the head.
Another 911 caller said someone was stabbed during the North Side melee.
As of 12:44 a.m., the stabbing was not confirmed.
At 12:38 a.m., authorities were informed that a man was allegedly thrown through a window at Bamboo Gardens at 3203 North Clark Street.

Meanwhile in NYC.
Occupy protestors held a little six month anniversary party in Zuccotti park last night. It grew to about 500 people and then got ugly as the batons and pepper spray hit the proverbial fan. Ambulances were seen transporting several protestors away and a couple bus loads of protestors were arrested. No counts yet
One woman was seen convulsing from here injuries on citizen videos and the rumor was she has broken ribs.
Anyways, the violence no matter who started it is likely to create motivation for a retaliatory march and other actions bringing new life into things.
As of 02:00 EST groups of several hundred are marching to time sq and to other areas in NYC.

Yeah, but it's hardly broken 80. Hell, there were many nights when it was 35-40 and we had ten shootings. It's just getting worse. "Steaming streets of Hell's Kitchen" s__t is a good Hull House-kind of story, but doesn't even apply right now.

I seem to remember that crime actually drops off some when it gets REALLY hot, like in killer 1995 -- 105 deg. and 100% humidity.
