Apple Picking Tactics

  • A 16-year-old boy is accused of snatching an iPhone as a woman held it in her mouth while searching her purse for a cigarette, police say.

The boy had approached the woman in her early 20s around 7:30 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of North State Street and asked her if she had a cigarette, police said.

She said she did and placed her iPhone in her mouth so she could use both hands to search her purse, police said. The teen then shoved her in the face and grabbed the iPhone, then ran south on State Street and east on Randolph Street, police said.

Responding officers saw the woman and a witness chasing the boy south on Garland Court and were able to catch him and recover the phone, which the woman said was worth $800. The teen was charged as a juvenile with robbery, according to police.

Someone ought to educate the public - someone comes up and asks for a light or a smoke, maybe you ought to think twice about stopping to engage in the transaction.

Nice job by the officers though.

Cell phone jammers carried by an average citizen/protesters that are used carry a felony, but cellphone jammers used by the police are totally legal and have been used in the past to disrupt command and control between protesters.

On the other hand, most of the professional protesters have their own countermeasures, for instance, with a $250 device called the Delorme InReach which is a satellite phone product with Bluetooth, coupled with an Android phone, will allow you to send out Twitter updates.

Now the service isn't cheap, but I wouldn't put it past some of these protesters that are hellbent on mayhem on using something like this to keep their lines of communication open.

OT: I have a bit of a radical idea here, so hear me out.

Since there is no more opening anywhere pretty much in the city, what about the idea of two P.O.'s being able to swap districts?

I work in a slow north side district and it's pretty far from home. I would love to try out a different district, like 008, or 009. I'm sure there are guys in those districts that would kill to be where i'm at. Why couldn't we voluntarily swap districts? There's a guy i work with that would love to get into 010. Again, no openings. Why couldn't he switch with a guy from 010 that wants to work up north?

Is this a decent idea? Or am i a stooge? Would the FOP ever consider this? At least it would be a way for some of us to move around again if you're unhappy where you're at.

Dumbasses, but deserved outcome. The predators can spot an 'idealist' from 100 yards off.

Approach them, ask them for something, they will immediately stop what they're doing and present themselves as 'friendly' as possible (lest they be tagged 'racist'), assuming the position for a mugging.

It's been this way forever.
Go to someplace like Hegewisch or East Side and ask the steel mill guy for a light, he'll laugh and smash the little turds face in. DO it in Lakeview? They'll actually stand there and do it.

I hope the predators and thugs die, but I have little sympathy for people whose deluded idealism makes them a victim.

It seems young male blacks are the ones grabbing iPhones. No race bating here. But can someone out there teach these guys that robbery and such crimes don't make you cool. Maybe they do it to get a young ladies attention. I don't know. Older M/1's need to school these kids on how to get some. I mean, is it cool to show up with 4 to 5 iPhones?! Just trying to be funny. I am retired CPD who spent over 10 years as a robbery detective. Almost always, the sometimes smiling "friendly" street offender will attempt to get his victim's guard down so he can close in on the vic. (a cigarette, a light, directions, etc.). I always tell them in the future, to reply in the negative and say "God bless you" and get out of there.

Also, do not underestimate the debilitating effect of "white guilt" by naive victims.

Savages victimizing people all over the city and suburbs due to section 8. Exactly how long can a parasite on society get welfare? Should there not be time limits? As part of my job I get drug tested, if I fail I lose my job. Now if you are receiving money from the government why should you not be held to the same standard. Also if I commit a felony, I lose my job. The same should apply to those receiving welfare, felony, you lose your check/link card. Can anyone tell me how long someone can get welfare benefits? Because I have seen generations of parasites on welfare, with not a single one ever having a job. And how do you draw SSI if you have never contributed to SS? Is there a country that doesn't suck up to parasites? Because if there is I am moving there.

I had to go through Chicago on a train and had to wait for five hours in Union Station. There were bums asking for money all over. I ignored them and walked away; I didn't want to have to get into a physical situation where the bum was down and bleeding and asking for the police to arrest me, but I would have knocked them down and made them bleed if necessary.

The vendors in the station agreed with me. They said that if you reach for a wallet, you will be missing a wallet. I just told the bums to get lost or get hurt. They left. Was that an actionable threat? I don't care.

My favorite response to the old "got any spare change???" question was always to say, "nah, I've got some, but thanks anyways". Great looks from the one's who got it and even better looks of puzzlement by the one's didn't get it. No, no, no, man, I,I,I meant, I meant for me!!!

I think it's a GREAT idea. Can't firemen even swap shifts?

I believe this is in fact true. A fireman works a 24 hr shift. He is then given 48 hours to recover from this horrendous schedule. Unless, of course, the fireman elects to "trade" with another fireman. Then the fireman can work up to three shifts or 72 hours in a row. Wow, they really are a special group of people that can work 72 hours in a row. I wonder when they sleep???
