The Connected Ones

  • An Oregon company that once hired Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s transportation commissioner as a consultant got the go-ahead Friday to offer 4,000 bikes for rental at 400 stations for the next fifteen years, providing the “missing link” in Chicago mass transit.

[...] The City Council’s Committee on Traffic and Pedestrian Safety gave Alta Bicycle Share the go-ahead to operate the bike-sharing system until 2027, despite a rival bidder’s claim that the path was greased, in part, because of Transportation Commissioner Gabe Klein’s past ties to the company.
Nice to see nothing has changed under Rahm.

Also nice to see Rahm was able to award that contract to a LOCAL company so that Illinois was able to benefit by keeping the profits in-state!

So much for hiring local companies!

While we are stuck living this stupid city with dumb and outdated residency rules to live by!

Seems like all city work is being outsourced to connected companies and to far away companies at the expense of city employees!

But hey go work harder for this asshole mayor and Supt. Mcstoopid! NOT!

De-Police is the only solution in contract time!

Be very very quiet about this. I heard that they are going to bid their bikes to replace our squads. Big savings on Gas.

so when the tax revenue from gasolene goes down,we can think up another tax. a sticker that allows people that ride their own bike on city streets, inspectors, many new patronge jobs.

This is where someone like the reporters out there should ask for a FOIA request for this guys Ethics training like all of us have to do. (Unless he never took the training. Like someone else doing it for them)

If I recall it correctly there are several points in this Ethics training that prohibits the connection of any contracts regarding current city employees past and prior work history.

In simpler terms, The city cannot use his prior employer on any contracts......

But this is Chicago and it has its own laws...

Gabe also has his greasy little finger prints all over the Redflex Speed Camera deal. The Racoon will only have one term here as mayor and he wants to steal as much as he can from a declining city. How much can you still squeeze out of a shrinking tax base in Chicago? They will get every last cent.

Alta's been picked in a lot of other cities as well that didn't have Klein making the decision. This story was planted by a local company with no experience who *thought* they'd appropriately greased the wheels but didn't get the deal. Buncha sour grapes.

I KNOW! Wrong state! It's Oregon, but the point remains the same!

Then, just when I hit "Publish" I realized it, and now, no matter how much White-Out I use, I can't fix it. I need a razor blade to get all this crap off my computer screen. OH SNAP!

Has anyone here taken a look how Rahm and this Kaplan are going to screw up traffic even further with their "PROTECTED BIKE LANES" ??

rush hour traffic, emergency vehicle access and right of way, and for whom? I hardly see any volume of bike use on the existing lane to warrent this !

It's not easy to get a look at the porposed plan either

4,000 new bikes for "community transportation" on the South and West sides; it'll be a one-way outbound trip from Oak St. Beach, Lincoln Park, etc.

Unbelievable.

No money to hire police, though. Officers being killed while changing clothes on the street because they have no locker, being killed because they are left by themselves in a dangerous neighborhood to dust for prints down some alley...

I suppose there are no local companies that could run this thing because the dickhead egomanic had to go all the way to Utah to give an out of state company a 15 year contract. Nice job 9.5 just like when your play uncle shortshanks gave the CTA rain shelter contract to a company from France. Nice job Dick head.

Emanuel's plan today, in The City With No Money -- rebuild Wrigley Field! Expanded everything!

EVERY DAY WITH THIS SHIT.

What's this character jacked up on? Doesn't he ever sleep?

Whle this goes on -- TV reporting that some woman was shot 20 TIMES on Arthington last night, gang ties.

Incest is clean and straightforward compared to watching these people operate.

...and I said that under Daley II.

Emanuel is WORSE. All this has ACCELERATED until it's become a DAILY trumpet-blaring.

City Hall is FREAKED.

Some woman took TWENTY ROUNDS in a gang shooting last night, and Supt. McWhiskey is fresh out of his Compstat tablets, has the blinds drawn, and is not accepting calls; they HAVE to keep a distraction going.

Closing mental health clinics and making policemen stick helmets together with stuff from the hardware store -- while giving free use of city facilities (Petrillo Bandshell) to observably violent domestic terror groups like Occupy, and providing public bicycles.

All this is with "no money, no money, no money."

A lot of people are frantically trying to put the brakes on Emanuel's "Infrastructure Trust," but it is a $7.3 billion done deal, with a Council vote coming Wednesday like a steam roller.

Look up the "Delphi Technique" -- a means of steering things ot a preordained conclusion while providing the illusion of public "input" and participation.

"Meeting for public comment" and then they cut the bus off your street anyway.

That kind of thing.

Ah, but these aren't hard times if you're Connected.

Channel 9 News at noon, smartphone gals who all "friend" each other doing a big sitdown about all of these expensive "green" ceiling tiles and organic running shoes and "environmentally safe, sustainable" $300 hairdos...Channel 7 side channels too, all daytime TV now a gusher of this material.

These are the ones who wanted that Olympics. These are the ones who looked at G8/NATO as just a big thrill for restaurant operators.

Yabble, yabble, yabble.

Have/have not.

Oh, yeah, we so-called liberals and "greens" are actually full of shit when we talk all that trendy "Buy Local" talk.

We just mean the "Farmer's Market" for show, on alternate Sundays during nice weather.

The observable everyday reality is that we prefer that illegal aliens from thousands of miles away cut our grass and wash our floors. That's who we hire -- go watch the landscapers work in Ravenswood Manor. They live right across the alley from the congressmen now.

That's who we build and maintain a "Sanctuary City" for. It's a voter bloc, and a labor pool for cheap domestic and retail help -- dishwashers at our amusing new "bistros" and so forth.

We pay minimum wage or below, cash, and let the suckers provide free food, education, medical care, and so forth for our help and their many, many children.

We don't want anything manufactured here. That would provide incomes for Americans and perpetuate a "middle class." We tear down factories, or convert them into "loft condos" for ourselves.

We'll stick together in a tight little one-hand-washes-the-other cabal and buy Canadian-made goods from our very own plant -- with the taxpayers' money.

You gotta love us.

Oh -- have they finished replacing the defective Chinese parts on all those Canadian-made CTA cars yet?

I used to see the shifts change here at Electro-Motive Division, at Pullman Car, at U.S. Steel. It was like a whole Army division coming out that gate.

Yeah, it's all just "sour grapes." Any reasonable person would be happy to watch their job go to Bangladesh.

Speculators. Thieves. Liars. Manipulators.

There is always a reckoning, you know.
