Revenge Maybe?
- A man shot to death on a Rogers Park street this week was on parole in the 2009 shooting of a 9-year-old boy less than a block away from the man’s slaying, according to records and police.
James Brown, 22, of the 3200 block of North Central Park Avenue, was fatally shot in the 6800 block of North Ashland Avenue about 2:05 p.m. on Thursday, authorities said.
Brown pleaded guilty Jan. 5, 2011, to aggravated battery in the shooting of the boy, who was walking with his family June 26, 2009, in the 6700 block of North Ashland when Brown rode up on a bicycle about 11 p.m., prosecutors said at the time.
Brown fired twice, shooting at the boy's two 15-year-old siblings, whom he missed, prosecutors said at the time.
He then pointed the gun at the younger boy and fired, striking him in the upper left thigh.
Brown was sentenced to 5 years in prison in the attack, and was released on parole on Oct. 28, 2011, less than a year after pleading guilty, according to court and prison records.
Again, this would be a perfect case to push for a "truth in sentencing law." Probably arrested right after the shooting, sits awaiting trial, pleas out and with time already in custody, he's out in under a year for a possible grand total of 2.5 years after trying to shoot three people, but only hitting the last one. The gun charge alone should have netted him a decade behind bars, right? And a few counts of attempt murder?
Anita's minions go for the quick conviction and he's out to contribute to the homicide rate - wait a minute....this might be a good thing. Disregard.

Now we have some white guy in Tulsa driving around in a white pickup and shooting black people. Five victims so far.
Revenge? Maybe. Justice? Definitely!
yup.... ....street law is more effective than our court system.
the streets dealt out a death sentence
was probably judge Linn or one of the other nitwits that gave him the sentence
Sounds like he got a death sentence to me!!!!
Seriously, what deterrent is there to committing violent crime in this shithole city & county???
Super freak?
No biggie, let's not spend to much time investigating
What goes around comes around. Amen.
Was anyone involved wearing a hoody?
Who is going to run James Brown Celebrity Hot Tub now?
Hot tub! do-dee-do-dee Hot Tub!
Should I get in the water?
Is it going to make me wet?
Should I get in the water?
Is it going to make me sweat?
Well, well, well
Street justice...sometimes it the last resort some say since the justice system is a joke.
This is effin' horrible! He was sentenced to five years for shooting at three people?????? What the hell is wrong with these judges??????? This is disgusting!
This "parolee" had just got out of jail for possession of Marijuana, paid a fine and was released.
WTF!
No violation of parole?
Possession of "drugs" not a parole violation anymore?
Something is wrong when we have judges who lack the ability to see what their actions do to the community. I recall a judge in Dallas who let a seriously deranged person out of a hospital. The deranged person killed a newspaper delivery man and held the judge's family hostage. No cookie for him.
Stop pleading everything down for the easy conviction. If you begin to loose a lot of "heater" cases, the public (and the jury pool) will hear about it and act, AND VOTE accordingly.
The bad guys are getting out anyway. The homicide offender that killed three last week is a shining example. This guy should have been locked up for the rest of his life. He was a murderer! There is nothing worse.
Chicago is "The Most Corrupt City in the Country". This 'slap on the wrist' judicial system is a big reason why.
The rest of the Country just marvels at this City, this County and this State. When will we fix it?
I seem to remember one of those cameras at that location. O WELL.
Well, I guess that's one way to negate Quinn's early releases & clemency.
I can not understand how this crime only amounted to a 5yr. sentence.
Why is not the media, all over this ?
Mary, what about this ?
Karma's a bitch, eh?
If someone shot my little boy they better expect a bullet from me and more.
Don't look to hard for the offender.
Chakie Says " Love the early releases". Chakie says " It will keep me busy".Chakie says " Got to get more chalk". Gotta love the city that makes early releases so fun.

Check your dictionary. Vigilante? Not so much.
Sick individual? Yeah, big time.
James Brown was shot to death? To quote the legendary Bernhard Goetz, "A NATION MOURNS..."
...or did I say that?
BERNIE?
Chalkie was going to get him eventually.

If the court system here will not to live up to their oaths to protect the citizenry by separating the violent wolves from the sheep, who dare questions it when some sheep put their own bounty on select wolves? I for one, wonder how it is that this type of thing happens so seldom in Crook County.
If I were into conspiracy theories, I would think they purposely let him out, to be judged by the streets. No money spent on feeding, medical, housing, lawyers or appeals. Seems like a win win.

There were NO LEADS in that case yesterday except for that ONE CLAIM from ONE PERSON in the whole city -- yet everyone was instantly certain of what was going on.
"Vigilantism."
I understand that two white men were arrested today on an anonymous tip.
Two black men shot six black men in a store right by St. Sabina's the other night.
Etc, etc. etc.
I like this system. Caged them for a short period of time to thinks about their stupid ways. Then come out and really pay for your crime. justice was served.
Since this state is not providing proper justice for victims, poeople will take justice by their own hands.
I hope the Dicks do not waste time investigating this act of retributional justice.
Today's victims are tomorrows offenders!!!!!

Thank you Mr Obama for ADDING to such Civil Unrest thanks to your STUPID uninformed public comment...you sir are a disgrace and no different from Al Sharpton.
Hooray for karma
024 has had shootings almost everyday for the last 2 weeks, and no manpower. It is nice to see that a stone cold shithead is one of them.
lake Forest College Glee club on the case
I don't dead guy will be missed...pass the gravy please.
If this goof Quinn hyad his way, he'd let 'em all out.
A few more of these and maybe my taxes will go down!
From a troll-WTF? This dirt bag, James Brown kills one, injures others and gets five years. If that were not criminal conduct by the Judge, then he does no where near the time he is sentenced to. You see folks, this is the problem: the SA and Courts simply do not put people who belong in prison in prison where they belong. On top of that, you have crooked policians in Cook County elected to and appointed to prosecuting offenders, Judges who take money from the crooked lawyers to throw cases (Frank Wilson for Harry Aleman) and everyone wonders why it is a blood bath on the streets. I remember how disgusted I was when I read Cooleys (a real POS himself) book. His own father, CPD is killed LOD and obviously, the case was bought and his fathers killer gets a pass. This corruption has been going on for decades and we all sit around scratching our asses looking for reasons. I think a prior poster put it best; lets not spend a lot of time looking for justice for James Brown.
now this is a cause i can donate to!
Let's see, this oxygen thief kills a child in 2009, is convicted and sentenced to FIVE years, and is out in... Nevermind. And the morons running this circus called Shitcago and ILLinIllinois blame the problem on guns?
Is there anyone - other than PhuckingPhleger and the Rev's who believe this crap?
Here's a "crime" that could have been prevented by the proper application of law under our criminal justice system. Guess we need to ban judges and prosecutors.
I thought someone told me that Illinois is one of the only, if not the only, state where felons can vote on local politics. Can someone tell me if this is true? Sure it would make for an interesting story/study.

He could've been caught selling rocks in front of a school, with kids playing at recess, and they wouldn't have violated him.
Homicides and agg. batts have certainly risen in 024 over the past 6 months. Maybe the commander is due
for replacement, as McNutty did with Carothers?

Anyone in Illinois not currently serving a sentence in PRISON can vote. Felon or not. They can vote on probation or parole.
I have no problem with it. What do you expect former governors to do after they get out of prison?
Seriously, the average felon I've encountered is extremely unlikely to bother voting. Anything that can be done to encourage a lawful life should be encouraged. Voting would be one of those things.
For that matter before you start slamming letting felons vote ask your fellow cops how often they vote.
I seem to recall SCC posting some very disappointing stats.
To the person that suggested 024 Cmdr might be held accountable, I can tell you that he is certainly NOT to blame in any way. His dedication and awareness of the gang conflicts and crime patterns blows out of the water the previous succession of placeholder Commanders' inaction.
