Casino? What Casino?

  • Gov. Pat Quinn all but slammed the door Monday on signing gambling-expansion legislation that passed last week, saying it “contained a lot of loopholes that are not good for the people.”

“I wouldn’t hold your breath on getting that bill signed,” the governor told reporters Monday morning during an appearance in Northbrook.

The measure that passed before a legislative deadline last Thursday would authorize a Chicago casino, along with four others in Lake County, the south suburbs and Downstate.

It also would permit slot machines at racetracks and expand the number of gambling positions at existing casinos.

Anyone have any idea what Quinn is hoping to accomplish by playing "bad cop" to Rahm's "fuck the unions, I'm going to D.C" stance?

Governor Quinn is no angel. On the other hand, he is standing up to Rahm Emanuel, for whatever reasons will probably be locked up in his heart. Although a "Chicago Casino" would probably be good for the City of Chicago financially, it would water-down the benefits to other, existing casinos in the State of Illinois.

Politics makes strange bedfellows. It is obvious that Quinn and Emanuel are not in the same bed together. It might be confusing, but it is GOOD for US.

yeah, he's holding the MILLION DOLLAR INFLUX OF NEW REVENUE out as bait so he can con the legislature into getting together over the summer to try finishing off fucking over state employees.

Quinn's not gonna put new money into the state and city until AFTER he buddies in the legislature fuck over all union employees, THEN he'll turn on the cash spigot so his buddies can get richer off the backs of employees.

There are only so many folks who gamble at these casinos. Illinois already has casinos and building more will just take away from them.

The Gov should require 25% of all profits to go into the city persions to make up what Daley&Madigan have taken.

Quinn must be getting either HUGE pressure or HUGE cash, probably both, to deny a Chicago Casino.

Personally, I wish to God he'd do it just so I can go to one of the other local casino's without being surrounded by gangbangers at the Craps tables. Let them throw all that dope money into the Chicago casino and shore up our pensions while they're at it.

Wouldn't that be ironic?

Oh, easy to explain. Rahm wants this. He doesn't want new revenue sources on the table with pending labor negotiations. Nope.

Get the contracts done, then watch Paddy Q fall into line.

Let's review. The last Illinois governor to mess with a Chicago mayor was Rod. And, how did his career fare? Not too good, as I recall.

Old chimpanzee-face Quinn best learn and know his place. Most likely, he hasn't done anything worthy of prison, but they will "do" him in some manner if he doesn't fall-in line.

Could it be to show who's got more power? Quinn obviously thinks he runs the state, and maybe he does.

some people don't get the game rules yet so here it is:

CASINO AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN ANYWHERE TILL THE FUCK EMPLOYEES DOWN TO POVERTY LEVEL!!

THEY WANNA MAKE SURE EMPLOYEES CAN'T USE THE NEW REVENUE AGAINST THEM IN COURT.

When the state and local government employee austerity moves are over and done with, THEN the legislation will pass, thereby fucking over every employee and giving away the revenue to private company cronies for votes.

The Casino bill as it is written would allow untold theft. There are zero checks and balances. That is why Quinn wants to veto it. You will see the same players get the affirmative action contracts (women fronted by their husbands) and of course the mob.

On the subject of gambling, earlier today, former CPSA President Pallohusky was sentenced to 12 years in prison for absconding with 12M taken from the CPSA and using it for gambling, etcetera.

Who cares? The entire rest of the state is corrupt. Why do we need a legit casino? As long as enough dough comes in to pay pensions etc. I don't give a shit if the usual assholes steal. Get the money spigot flowing so Madigan and the rest don't get the notion to cut my COLA or pension. If necessary, invade Indiana and Wisconsin, just let the dough flow.

We don't need any more casinos in IL. Let alone in Lake County.

We NEED concealed carry, NOW.

If Madigan wants a Chicago casino, Quinn will support it. If he doesn't, Quinn will veto it.

When you're trying to figure out what Quinn will do, it's quite simple: what does Madigan want him to do?

There is a reason the largest cities that need the revenue the most do not have casinos. New York, Los Angeles, Chicago,Miami,Dallas etc. The small group of people who control the industry in Vegas knew they would just be cannabalizing themselves and adding to their overhead expenses. The Indian casinos are largely managed for large fees by this same small group of people. Those same people have access to more cash than just about any business. Even banks operate largely with electronic debits and credits not cash. Did anyone ever think maybe people were being given cases of cash NOT to allow casinos.

However, with the economy increasingly detoriating and gas prices therefore airfares continuously increasing, things will change soon.
