That's More Like It
A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed in a dispute over a bicycle Saturday afternoon on the South Side, authorities said, and another man was killed in West Humboldt Park late Saturday night.
Fifteen others were shot and survived Saturday night and Sunday morning, police said.
Over a bicycle. That's just great.
And the spate of shootings led to a march being held. You know it's a good weekend when there's a march:
- After a violent weekend in which three people were gunned down, the anti-violence group CeaseFire held a rally on the West Side Sunday.
The rally was planned to kick off a week of events called CeaseFire Week but came on the heels of another violent weekend that also saw 21 others wounded by gunfire.
Evelyn Holmes from Channel 7 had the above linked piece on the news Sunday. The gist of the piece was the unholy toll being reaped on the youth of the west and south sides. And while she was doing her report live from the scene, this played out in the background:
They're certainly going to be either (A) the subject of one of Evelyn's pieces in the next 5 years or (B) raising the next generation of subjects within the next 20 years. An endless circle.

I say this newscast as it was being broadcast. That little girl on the left side of the screen in the pink top was being coached by some asshole offscreen to throw that sign. There isn't a doubt it my mind that she knew what she was doing, only she needed to be reminded of when to represent.

Re: the football game
As usual, for a 3rd straight year it was a great game that was decided in the final 2 minutes or less. CFD won 19-13, with the go-ahead touchdown coming with 30 seconds left. CPD played their hearts out, but barely fell short. Thanks to all who came out and enjoyed a great game, on a beautiful day, for a good cause!

I grew up in the projects, family of six. All of us graduated from college, thanks to loving parents who disciplined us and teachers who also were allowed to teach. In my gramar school teachers were allowed to paddle your ass if you got out of line. Now parents get thrown in jail for it. The numbers are scary, but the graduation rates are sickening and it will not get better. I read where CPS is paying some lady 21K a month. What exactly is she doing that will turn around the graduation rate? Nothing that good parenting cannot solve. Personal responsibility is the key people. Today's parents have none of it. Nothing will change unless you make it happen. I have total respect for the police but they are not officer friendly, arrest these beasts and hope the judges have zero sympathy.
A liability on responsible society from cradle to grave. Think of the money aspect. This group brings no hope of contributing any thing worthwhile except more of the same.

There is no "we."

Since I lost CPD's 'Miss Merit' pageant last year because of my weak performance in the 'talent' segment, I have stepped up my game. I have been twirling my baton and can now catch it after flipping it into six figure-eights 50' into the air.
I figure it'll come in handy if I'm ever asked to be the marshall of one of these marches. Oooh, wait, baton-twirling is for parades, not marches, right?
Must've been my stupid answers to stupid questions that made me lose last year's pageant--HEY! Doesn't that mean I should automatically get 'Miss Merit 2012'?

Doesn't Wisconsin tax your pension? And, if you lose your COLA, you are taking a double-hit.
As a detective, I've noticed a trend in interviews with arrestees lately--telling me felony charges would be lowered to misdemeanors--one actually told me, "this ain't no burglary, this is a criminal damage to property"--telling me nothing is going to happen in court anyway--telling me charges will be dropped, that being arrested and locked up is an inconvenience at most. And these aren't master criminals, these are your run of the mill shitheads.
We are so close to anarchy. No consequences to deter criminal behavior, no societal norms to conform to. I truly believe within my lifetime there will be a race war as someone already stated.
rahm is just buying votes by giving our tax dollars to Open Fire. As always there will be bloody weekends and not-so bloody weekends. The only difference now, is that Open Fire will claim credit for the not-so bloody weekends.
I belong to a church that does volunteer work in the ghetto. They are always trying to pressure its memebers into giving their time. I've reluctantly given in a few times. I've worked in the ghetto as the police and am familiar with the mentality. These volunters feel good about themselves because they think they're making a difference, but I believe in helping those willing to help themselves. Church volunteers should only give their time when parents in the community equally give their time. Only then will the kids learn by example. Afterall, all they have is time, most are unemployed. Drug tests and volunteer work should be required of ANYONE recieving any form of government assistance...from financial aid for school, welfare,link cards, to ssi checks, etc. Just saying.

I'm a retiree and I'm going to be relaxing at my cottage in Wisconsin the next couple weeks. And next month, I'm going to be relaxing in Switzerland. I'm not too worried about them taxing my pension, either, since I'll be there for nine days.

Channel 7 News reporting that in Pitt County, North Carolina, parents had to sign a pledge not to shout at the top of their lungs, fall down and roll in the aisles, etc. before they could get tickets to attend their children's graduation.
They showed similar stories from Ohio and other parts of the country.

Yes sir. You are absolutely correct. When offenders spend a large part of their time in the jailhouse, in court, etc., and the rest of their time associating with other criminals and engaging in criminal activity, they learn the system. How could they not?
