New York Nanny State

  • New York City plans to enact a far-reaching ban on the sale of large sodas and other sugary drinks at restaurants, movie theaters and street carts, in the most ambitious effort yet by the Bloomberg administration to combat rising obesity.

The proposed ban would affect virtually the entire menu of popular sugary drinks found in delis, fast-food franchises and even sports arenas, from energy drinks to pre-sweetened iced teas. The sale of any cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 fluid ounces — about the size of a medium coffee, and smaller than a common soda bottle — would be prohibited under the first-in-the-nation plan, which could take effect as soon as next March.

The measure would not apply to diet sodas, fruit juices, dairy-based drinks like milkshakes, or alcoholic beverages; it would not extend to beverages sold in grocery or convenience stores.
When did New York lose its balls?

Well they exempted alcoholic beverages so instead of a lemonade you can have a fishbowl sized frozen margarita.

our politicians have no "cures" for the real problems plaguing our cities so they come up with stupid shit like this so it appears that they are doing something.

Bloomberg must be hanging out with Chicago alderthieves who are the "masters of nonsensical bullshit".

When you're as wealthy as mike is, you don't care if people laugh at you !!

If these politicians want to combat rising obesity rates in children, they can start by bringing back the gym classes in grammar schools.

And Chicago will be right behind NYC. Can't think of the name of the Alderfool who brought this same bullshit up not long ago. Our political "leaders" have to show they are doing something for all of the money we give them. When they are not sleeping in their offices or playing Saduko they come up with these stupid ideas. Instead of finding legit ways of stopping shootings and killings they come up with bullshit like soda drinks.

Well there's always free soft drink refills with the 16 oz cup right?

Unless you're gonna have the soft drink police division.

And where do you draw the line. If sugary soft drinks are going to be regulated because of their health impacts and weight issues then what about beer and alcohol? Those too are high in calories and have negative side effects. Then we can expand to rationing red meat, pork, fish, etc.

The Evil Racoon wants a Super Bowl in Soldier Field. Forget about the carnage on our streets, our pension funds going bankrupt, and all of the other ills from the Great Recession. Now this out of touch whore mayor wants to bring a big time football game to the city. He is still basking in the glory of his NATO circus. In the meantime he is pissing and shitting all over our Firefighters. And we are next on his list. What a really great guy he is. For any of those officers who shook hands with this little pathetic creep I hope you still had your wallet when you walked away from him.

Drug Cartel Barbecues U.S.-Owned Potato Chip Company

By RANDY KREIDER
May 30, 2012

Mexican authorities arrested four alleged members of the Knights Templar drug cartel after a series of firebomb attacks on a potato-chip company owned by the U.S. food company PepsiCo, the first attack on an American multinational firm in Mexico's ongoing drug war.

Five warehouses and parking lots owned by the popular Sabritas brand were attacked over the weekend in the states of Michoacan and Guanajuato. Witnesses said masked men had thrown firebombs and incinerated warehouses and dozens of delivery trucks. No one was injured in the bombings, according to authorities.

This is communism at work. Communists will tell you what to do, when to do it, how to do it. You, as citizens, will FOLLOW their command, or be "punished."

This is America...no stinkin' commies for us. Vote these stinkin' commies/marxists/socialists/maoists/revolutionaries OUT of the White House and out from every crack and crevice in OUR government. Land of the free and home of the brave, that's us, and we're damn proud of it. Take oboma and his hacks down. If we do not remove oboma in November, he will further unleash his commie/socialist/marxist/maoist agenda, and we as a country will resemble England, Cuba, China, to name a few.

For all brave soldiers who gave their full measure in wars past, for ourselves and our families, stand up, speak out and pound these commies into dust in November.

May God bless us all in the fight OF our lives, for OUR lives. Get out the vote, and beat these vermin back into the stone age.

Gang attacks Mexico PepsiCo subsidiary again

Mexican gang burns another delivery truck of PepsiCo subsidiary

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Police in southern Mexico say assailants have burned another delivery truck of a PepsiCo-owned Mexican snack company, hours after a drug cartel claimed responsibility for last week's arson attacks against the company.

A crime report by police in Michoacan state says a truck belonging to the Sabritas snack company was torched with gasoline bombs on a rural highway late Thursday. The attackers fled the scene.

Earlier Thursday, the cult-like Knights Templar drug cartel hung banners in one Michoacan city claiming credit for firebombing five Sabritas distribution centers last week. Dozens of trucks were burned in those attacks.

The banners accused Sabritas of allowing law-enforcement agents to use its trucks for transport and surveillance.

Wow. Talk about picking and choosing. Alcohol kills 50,000 people a year. Tobacco? I have no idea, but I'll bet it's over 25,000. If they want to have a positive impact on kids, ban booze and cigarettes. Oh, wait....too much tax revenue there.

I don't advocate that at all, just giving an example. Once again, the government, no matter who-city, state, federal whatever needs to butt the fuck out of peoples lives.

Next thing you know they will put up speed cameras and place the need on stopping the vehicle driven carnage around the schools. Kids are getting knocked over like tenpins. Oh wait, nevermind.

Potato chips are one of the biggest contributors to obesity in this country. I think we should make all the potato farmers pay a tax on each potato they grow--

Come to think of it, every politician in this country is a potato-head, so never mind.

"When did New York lose its balls?"

Haven't you noticed this trend?

Various city governments doing the same type of thing. The use of tobacco (smoking AND chewing) prohibited on City College campuses. A $1 tax increase per pack of cigarettes.

It's an attempt to curb obesity, cancer, diabetes, etc. to save money for when Obamacare goes live.

They "care" about you.

And "the children."

since the grand exalted leader is in town, maybe rahm can get some dough from his stash. we could hire more pos and replenish our pension fund. but the way the pols operate, they would spend the money on pet projects. would it be possible to find out whose children are in asm. you can bet they are connected to a pol or rev. you know its so wonderful, all the talent. how many live in englewood, maybe a few. life is not fair, no police protection, there is other people more important to protect. close the liquor stores but push h on the corner. remember in november.
