Homicide Numbers Climb?

Just as July is drawing to a close and everyone is thinking we might see the first reduction in the number of killings as compared month-to-month since something like October of last year, the wounded start dying and throwing the whole thing into jeopardy:
  • A South Side man shot and critically wounded over the weekend died at a Chicago hospital, authorities said today.

The 26-year-old victim was shot in the face by two gunmen as he sat on his front porch in the 5700 block of South Sangamon Street in the Englewood neighborhood about 12:35 a.m. Saturday, police said.

  • A mother of three young children became the second person to die from a gang-related shooting at a Southeast Side park that also left a 17-year-old boy dead, authorities said this morning.

The woman, Janeen Hancock, 34, was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, nearly an entire day after two males sprayed gunfire across Merrill Park near 96th Place and Merrill Avenue in the Jeffery Manor neighborhood on the Southeast Side.

This means a whole lot of press conferences scheduled to brag about the "decrease in the increase" have now been put on hold until such time as the actual totals are tallied up.

One time on the Amos & Andy show, Kingfish Stevens stole a rare valuable nickle from his friend Andy Brown.

Kingfish then inadvertently put the nickle in a pay phone when he was calling a coin dealer to learn its numismatic value and make an appointment to sell it.

When Andy found out about the theft, Kingfish made up some BS and the two of them decided to open the coinbox and get the nickle back.

Upon arrival at the phone Kingfish handed Andy the tools and told that Andy had "prior rights" to the nickle, which meant that Andy had to do the pryin'. And Kingfish was going to watch out for de poe leeses.

The term "decrease in the increase" sounds like something that George Kingfish Stevens would tell Andy as he was preparing to bamboozle him.

Those electronic signs on the expressway have the "traffic related deaths" tally on them, and they keep updating the totals. Maybe we can get the homicide totals on there too. It's kinda like the McDonalds signs that used to say "xxx million served".

Uh-oh...

via Chicago Tribune..

"President Barack Obama said "AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of children." (Larry Downing, Reuters)

President Barack Obama, speaking to the National Urban League, called for reasonable restrictions on gun ownership, saying that every day and a half, the same number of people killed in the Aurora massacre are "gunned down on the streets of Chicago" and other cities"

----------------------------------

I'll bet that the FBI background check line is really ringing off the hook now.

All good. I just typed up a memo about a great new strategy. We're gonna issue a book of pictures of gang leaders. Also, Garry is gonna start talking again. Oh.....oh, shit! Garry, NOOOOOOO!

This is great - Chicago is turning into a shithole and the mayor doesn't want a chicken place because the owner doesn't believe in gay marriage. Great strategy - get people to look away from real problems by making a big issue out of nothing!

One word, "good". I personally like gang on gang violence, it's modern day darwinism.

Calm down SCC. The "decrease" bragging will still go on. They just won't count the new numbers, telling the public that they were already counted as shootings for the month. And you well know, the public and press will accept it. It riles me that no one, civilian, politician, press, etc is calling for anyone's head on this issue.

Let's not get crazy here. There still is a decrease in the increase, because you forgot the spin.

We'll call this one a dramatic pause in the increase.

If we can just keep them alive a little longer, it works as a separate category and doesn't count against the daily totals.

Totally agree with another Anonymous who has referenced Obama and gun control. Think about it. Rahm has gone out of his way to avoid the gang killings for weeks now, and eventually the national news arrived. Coincidence? Of course not. Chicago has become the new Fast and Furious. Believe it. They are throwing the black children to the wolves to make a political gain.

I thought we still had a Constitution and freedom of speech?
I don't agree with the man's philosophy, but he is not forcing his philosophy - or his chicken -on anyone.

Let the market determine the business' success or failure. I like their food, I live nearby. I support Chick Fil A because they will bring INCOME to the city and good food to the area. I don't have to fall in love with Chick Fil A's owner.

And, Ald. Moreno, I won't be voting for you. This is America and the law allows everyone their opinion. Denying a company the right to do business because you don't agree with someone's opinion is NOT in the best interests of this economically depressed city.

The knife cuts both ways. Everybody forgets that. The chicken guy has the same rights everyone else does. Whether I agree with him or not, I will fight for his right to say it. God Bless America.

The best part of all of this is 9.5, at a press conference, saying these the owner's personal views are "not Chicago values". Gee Rahmbo, what, exactly, are "Chicago values"?? Corruption??! Back door deals?? Gang shootings?? Serial gov't mismanagement? Democratic machine patronage?? Street violence?? You should be glad that any business would want to set up here...but, as is the liberal left's usual m.o., if you don't agree with them, you are wrong. What do you expect from a place that has produced gems such as Proco Joe, Shortshanks, Obama, Cullerton, Quinn, Madigan, Jesse (JJJ too), Farrakhan, Ike and Papa Carothers, Fast Eddie, Ed Burke, etc etc etc.... A 40% increase in homicides, a woefully shortstaffed police dept., shootings at an alarming rate, a dangerously low funded pension, but we're worried about the what the CEO of a restaurant thinks about gay marriage. Glad to see there are priorities. Keep voting democratic, it's working so well ,thus far.

for rahm a certain group has to be protected. the reason for this is people in high places are of the same persuasion. the folks in englewood have to deal with neglect on the part of rahm and potus. different strokes for different folks. makes you wonder why they are so concerned about only this special group.
