Pick on the Taxpayers

Letters, we get letters!
  • Hey SCC,

Anyone remember Revenue targeting St. Juliana's during Mass on Sunday a while back.

Not sure if this is totally by coincidence or what but with the City Council poised to vote on an Ordinance Amendment this week, it seems like someone from Revenue gave the order to target the 41st Ward before they can no longer write a certain parking ticket.

The City Council is scheduled to Vote on an Ordinance change amending the Permits that owners of Pickup Trucks can get from the Alderman's Office allowing them to park 24 hours-a-day on Residential streets. The current Permit is restricted to Trucks/Large SUVs weighing up to 4,500lbs. The proposed Ordinance should lift that restriction to 8,000lbs.

I know a lot of us have trucks for recreational, sporting, business purposes and the necessary 4WD to get to work in the winter. Throughout the 28 years I've lived in the 41st Ward I have rarely seen or heard of this ticket being written without a complainant. With this said, Revenue was out this morning Targeting Pickup Trucks on the West end of the 41st Ward writing tickets citing MCC 9-64-170A (Essentially, parking for expeditious loading/unloading only). Might be wise to spread the word to get your trucks off the side streets till this gets resolved. Trucks with RV plates and and a Cab Top on the bed, Looks like you might be safe.

Oh and watch out for the infamous "It was a Guy on a Bicycle"!
So watch out northsiders. And southsiders, don't be surprised when they hit you next week for the same thing.

They've been really hammering the businesses on NW HWY and surrounding blocks. No mercy at all. Ran into Tony's for some sausage, took less than 3 minutes, they got me. Heard they're killing the valet guys when the cars start stacking up at the restaurants.

I guess since we're the only ones who actually pay these things, they need to hammer our neighborhoods. And thanks for the tax increase too...really makes the neighborhood a real charmer.

The nice 020th district midnight crew were very consistant about hitting my truck with tickets, in spite of it being on a commercial stretch of street. Yes, the police memorial plates, fop sticker and other obvious markings were easily seen. Truck on a residental....and the city stickers are the highest priced of all vehicles too.

i will contact arena about a permit but paying 200 bucks for a sticker and can't park on the street? i can only imagine what a permit will cost.

Also even though I got the sticker and requested a hearing, I got 3 tickets in the course of a week, the same hearing assignment for the 1st 2 and another for the third. The pudgy male Admin. judge at 95th/Jeff on Monday was decent and threw them out, the fat female judge on Tuesday was a bitch and let the fine stand.

I got hit with this last year - if you go to your alderman with your registration they will give you a sticker that allows you to park over night. I own a pickup and went into Mary O'Conner's office asking about this. I was told i needed to park on devon or harlem to avoid being ticketed. this sounds nice in the winter. good thing i paid $200 for a sticker that does not allow me to park in front of my home. However if you belong to a store front church in a less desirable area of the city, on a Sunday you can double park as well as park on the sidewalk... its just your god given right not to have to find a legal spot to park, and don't worry if you get a ticket the rev will make sure the commanda hears about you targeting his congregation.

In a nut shell:

9-64-170 A: Pickup Trucks and Vans Under 4500 pounds in All Ward excluding 38 and 39 and 10 must have a Pickup Truck/Van Residential Parking Permit (available FOR FREE at the Aldermans Office). Penalty for no Permit is a 25.00 daily fine for vehicles under 4500 pounds.
Pickups and Vehicles with a B Truck Plate fall under this ordinance.

For Vehicles Over 4500 pounds that are a Pickup Truck or a Van, they are not legally allowed to display the Truck/Van Parking Permit, the Ward isn't Allowed to issue it. The vehicle can be ticketed for 9-64-170D @ 125.00 per day.

Guys...Read the darn ordinance book and check out the City Clerks website for Pickup Truck Parking. It is spelled out there in plain English. For that matter, Cops are supposed to be issuing this ticket if they have a Slow Beat to show activity and keep your Sgt or Lt or XO off your back.

With all the driveways in the 41st ward, there is no reason for anyone to be parking their Pickup on a Residential Street at all.

Regards
1632

Let me first preface this by saying I love the blog and I read it every day, SCC.
I learn things every time I read SCC blog, and I have much respect and admiration for the shit the Police put up with Daily in this Shitty City.

As such, I hope you choose to post this.

I'm the 'Guy on the Bike"
I Am the Revenue PEA that was
Assigned to work the 41st Ward this week. A Key Word there...Assigned. Didn't volunteer. Ordered.

9-640170A is quite clear on the type of vehicles that require the Truck/Van Permit in that ward. Pickups, Vans and any vehicle with a B truck Plate. 25.00 ticket because you didn't take the time to go get the Free Permit for your vehicle.

Now...If you have a Pickup or Van over 4500, per 9-64-170D; you can't park on a Residential Street At all, unless you are Actively Loading or Unloading. Past that, Meter or Private Property only. And in the 41st Ward you only find meters on Higgins in a small area near Harlem.

For the letter writer with the comment of "28 years and rarely seen or heard of this without a complaint";
we don't show up on a "complaint call" we just show up randomly.

Personally, the original Ordinance should have allowed all pickup trucks/vans with the permit unless they were required to have the D Truck plate.

And once again, Revenue Doesn't work Sundays or Saturdays so St Juliana's was the work of the Ser Co contractors.

There are other tickets that you can issue that won't have the same impact. God knows the city's got ordinances against virtually everything.

"I have a Chevy Avalanche with passenger plates (no B truck plates) issued to my vehicle by the state of Illinois."

Unless the law has changed, vehicles with a truck chassis should have second-division vehicle plates (B Truck).

The truck chassis can be determined by VIN, but the people at SOS are apparently unaware/ignorant/uncaring of this fact.

You see A LOT of pick-up trucks incorrectly licensed as "2 doors."

Apparently it's the owner's responsibility to do SOS' job now, too.

Welcome to Illinois.

Parking Enforcement Aides are part of the Public Safety Unit 2 CBA. They have been part of that unit way before 2000. If they were officer's their title would reflect that. But it doesn't. Just like Aviation Security Officer's like to think they are Aviation Police...Their title and pay does not reflect that. The City has no plans to change either groups job titles or classification.

And you will be at risk in the City if you ever park it in a City Employee lot of course. I got 25 out of state vehicles parked in employee parking at several CFS and CPD lots the week of the 16th. And when they all started protesting based upon vehicle registration...I simply pointed out the vehicles are owned by Chicago Residents and City Employees...you don't get exemption based off of registration Per the City Clerks Orders.

State Senator John Mulroe from Edison Park in Chicago has chosen to support FOP’s bill allowing the Chicago Police Pension Board to continue to pay the retirees’ healthcare insur-ance subsidy. This is SB 450 amendment #1. The current legislation allowing the pension board to pay the subsidy has a sunset provision and will expire on June 30, 2013. It is the Lodge’s position (and Mr. Krislov’s) that benefits can neither be diminished nor impaired, in-cluding the healthcare benefit. The Lodge will continue to update our members regarding this
