Fuzzy Math

Ten more shot?
  • Four teens – two 13-year-olds and two 16-year-olds – were shot within a half hour in the city's Englewood and Gresham neighborhoods on the South Side, according to police.

The four were among at least 10 people shot overnight in attacks on the city's South and West Sides.

This set of numbers appears to include the ones we cited in the "Parents of the Year" post and a few extras. We're wondering if the Department has started issuing the same numbers on multiple occasions so they can cite a decrease at some point? Or is this just lazy reporters contacting News Affairs at different points and not citing times of occurrence accurately.

Regardless, this weekend had some of the higher totals for July.

Rahm & the city council KNOW that they are powerless to stop any of this gang violence, so the only way that they can make it appear that they're "doing something about the problem" is by forcing more anti-gun legislation down our throats, e.g. "Chicago aldermen rework city’s gun law to satisfy federal judge."

Illinois' new motto: "A State Full of Victims-Come Get One Today!"

Please let the number shot be over 50 and we get some more national coverage!!!

Please let steam blow out of 9.5's ears and let us see McStrategy bumbling through another series of news interviews! That would make my Monday!!!

All of these shootings on the west and southsides, think of them as "culling the herd", as is done when the deer population gets to overwhelming.

Hey! Whatever happened to curfew enforcement? Not so long ago there were upwards of 40,000 curfews issued and several hundred parents issued citations requiring a court appearance. Fewer kids were shot too. Is the The New Yorker aware of any of this?

Things will improve, violence-wise, once that new $250 million Malcolm X College gets built and the underprivileged victims of those Pilgrims get an education and make it to the Supreme Court and shit. You know?

What was the old saw about the beast, if you can't smoke it, eat it or fuck it, you destroy it. But that was another time completely, before we knew that arrests didn't matter and white cops and Pilgrims were the source of all that is wrong in the ghetto.

shooting dont matter, it's homicides that count.

Not too many marksmen have been hitting a bullseye this weekend

55 homicides July 2011.

Will be continue to show a homicide increase?

we have about 33 so far

Here's a thought......How about taking up a collection to rent a billboard or two for the message "For factual un-spun news, go to Second City Cop blog" or something like that?

Here's some more fuzzy math:

What does the word tourist mean to you all?

More specifically if someone starts talking about Illinois tourism I don't know about you but the first thing that comes to my mind is visitors from overseas.

Next. I think that maybe we're talking about visitors from another state.

But like...do we count a native Illinoisan from Naperville traveling to Chicago a tourist... or from any other local inside Illinois?

Apparently the tourist board here does and the Tribune is boasting about how Illinois tourism (not Chicago tourism) is back baby.

YES it's back to pre recession levels..woo-woo! eh?

Look at all that money rolling in. The story claims tourism tax related revenue is up 20%, $1.64 billion dollars.

HOWEVER...

"Even though the economy is getting better, people are still looking for value," said Jan Kostner, deputy director of the tourism office."

***

"Chicagoans are motoring to an array of destinations, from the historic homes and storefronts in Galena, to a water park, museums and Japanese garden in Rockford and Lincoln-related attractions in Springfield, she said."

==============

So wait... how much of this tourism money is new money from outside Illinois? They don't break out the dollars on that.

People are so broke that they can not afford to travel outside the state for a little R&R and so when they go up to Great American for the day and we count them as tourist ??

Pardon me but isn't this just taking money out of one pocket and putting it into another pocket for the state of Illinois? You know that there has to be a flip side right?

If Chicagoans are "motoring" here and there within Illinois on vacation then there money is not being spent in Chicago so let's look over there at the money being lost to the city as they try to direct our attention to over here at the tourist tax related revenue gains.

I'm not buying it.

The alder-holes awarded a settlement of $7 mil for that police torture stuff. I guess that's so Daley is protected and doesn't get sued personally.

Then, what was it another $3~4 million to that zoo lawsuit..

There goes $10 million dollars! Take it out of the police pension fund until we can use the children as tools to raise more taxes to pay for this negligence.

Sickening.

I'm not so sure.

You know that all that matters to the ruling party in this town is the money. So which is more damaging financially -- the over 1,200 shootings since the first of the year or the 270 homicides?

Audit of Illinois FOID System Uncovers Waste, Incompetence, Abuse

The Illinois Office of the Auditor General just released a report on the status of that state’s FOID card system. The results show that the system is effectively useless, wasteful, and insanely expensive. This should come as no surprise to Illinois residents, but the numbers are still worth looking at. It is difficult to image how the audit could have turned out any worse for those involved with the FOID system.
