Ride to Remember

Took place on a beautiful Sunday:
  • Motorcyclists and bicyclists are both participating in rides today to honor and remember Chicago police officers who died in the line of duty.

This morning, the Ride to Remember kicks off at 10 a.m. at the Harrison District Police Headquarters, 3151 W. Harrison St., and heads to the Gold Star Families Memorial across from Soldier Field. The ride was started as an annual event in 2005 by detectives from what was then Area 4, the Harrison Police Area, as a fundraiser for the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, according to organizers.

This year, about 1,000 motorcycle riders were expected to participate.

And the associated bike event:

  • This afternoon at 1:30 p.m., the Pedal for the Police ride, also benefiting the foundation, starts at from Chicago Police Headquarters, in conjunction with a long-distance bike ride sponsored by the Illinois Concerns of Police Survivors, the Cycle Across Illinois. The bike event also will end at the memorial.
Couldn't have asked for a better day for it.

I couldn't make the bicycle ride but did make it to the Ride to Remember and just wanted to say thanks to those who organized and volunteered to help for what was a spectacular ride. I know we're often quick too point out the flaws in people, especially in some of the neighborhoods the ride goes through, but there were hundreds of people waving and cheering as we roared past, so remember there are still those who appreciate the police.

You a want a ride to remember... Take a tour on the cta redline. Let the family roam near the Chicago stop. You will count your blessings if you make it back home alive and with your personal property. The inmates have taken over!

It was a great ride, still would have been nice if they would have scheduled the two events on different dates, I would have enjoyed doing both. I tend to do the motorcycle rides alot but to do the bicycle portion would have been great for members of my family who do not own motorcycles. Either way great turn out for a great organization.

Hey SCC,

It is great to see some separate postings for police charity related events. Here's another to support our own; The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation. We need to (re)build the camaraderie within the CPD.

This is one simple way to get us back where it use to and needs to be!

Saturday August 4th vs. Los Angeles Angels, 6:10 game. Tailgate party begins at 4:10 catered by Cork and Kerry on the Park.
$25 for game only, $40 for food and beverages at tailgate. Families are welcome.
Reserve tickets via Paypal at www.cpdmemorial.org/teamcpd

Prepaid tickets may be picked up at the Credit Union on Aug 1st 9am-130pm or on game day at the tailgate. Tailgate will take place at the lot at 35th and Wentworth specific row/location will be posted at above website on Aug 1.

Email teamcpd1@gmail.com with questions.

There is A LOT of tickets left so any help is sincerely appreciated!
