DEA Screws Up

Evidently, it's not enough that the ATF is "walking" over 2,000 guns over the border into Mexico, now the DEA is getting civilians killed. And that's not all (linked article is a long read, but worth your time):
  • The phone rang before sunrise. It woke Craig Patty, owner of a tiny North Texas trucking company, to vexing news about Truck 793 - a big red semi supposedly getting repairs in Houston.

"Your driver was shot in your truck," said the caller, a business colleague. "Your truck was loaded with marijuana. He was shot eight times while sitting in the cab. Do you know anything about your driver hauling marijuana?"

"What did you say?" Patty recalled asking. "Could you please repeat that?"

The truck, it turned out, had been everywhere but in the repair shop.

Commandeered by one of his drivers, who was secretly working with federal agents, the truck had been hauling marijuana from the border as part of an undercover operation. And without Patty's knowledge, the Drug Enforcement Administration was paying his driver, Lawrence Chapa, to use the truck to bust traffickers.

At least 17 hours before that early morning phone call, Chapa was shot dead in front of more than a dozen law enforcement officers - all of them taken by surprise by hijackers trying to steal the red Kenworth T600 truck and its load of pot.

In the confusion of the attack in northwest Harris County, compounded by officers in the operation not all knowing each other, a Houston policeman shot and wounded a Harris County sheriff's deputy.

Thanks to the DEA screw up, an informant ends up getting blasted and cops end up shooting cops. Nothing like a half-assed operation to instill the public with confidence in the federal 3-letter-agencies.

Let's flood the south and west sides with guns and then see if we can find some of them again.

We don't have anything better to do...

Since we know that the Chicago media sometimes slants the news in order to promote their agenda, why would we expect an accurate and truthful story from the Houston Chronicle. Sometimes the "innocent" trucking firm owner may not be as "innocent" and un-involved as their lawyers are promoting in order to win a settlement. Be careful what you believe.

This is the Second Major Multi-Million dollar Screw-Up and those are YOUR dollars for DEA this year! Remember when they left the suspect in a cage over the weekend and he had to resort to drinking his own urine, that multi-million dollar fiasco was a few months ago. DEA as we know it was formed under Nixon in the 70's; maybe it is time to absorb it into a more adult agency, perhaps FBI? Remember, Homland Security absorbed Border Patrol & Coast Guard.

The inquiry into Fast and Furious notes 2 US agents were killed by this "effort", but also estimate that upwards of 300 Mexican nationals , including a relative of their Attorney General, were also killed as a result.

....and where is the outrage and press coverage?

WOW, that's a major screw up. MAJOR. If it happened in Chicago, they'd make the person responsible an XO. Maybe give them a Command spot in 015.

Photo in the report was for a drug arrest. Who wants to bet the DEA promised this unfortunate guy a pass if he "played ball" their way. If so, it got him killed.

How many innocent people are in jail today for "drug crimes" because the DA promised a lighter sentence if the accused can come up with more targets?

In Chicago you'd better not allow any passengers any more. Heck, you'd better hope your car isn't STOLEN by a clown carrying drugs, because the city can keep your car under yet another Orwellian money-grab by city officials.

The drug war is Big Business for criminals, both in and out of government.

typical DEA.. bring others to help out but keep them in the dark so they can take all the credit for the pinch. Well dea, as usual you screw up again and again and again now you got a copper shot and a guy killed. Why is it that almost every dea agent I have ever worked with on this job while in narcotics and gangs has been a complete arrogant a**hole. Not all have been, but of the two dozen plus that I have known over the years I have only really like 3 of them. They are arrogant and think their shit dont stink.. but when you need to get into a house and get stuff done they look like a deer in the headlights and tell the cpd sgt.. umm, can you guys go get this guy and get into the house yada yada yada.. ill come along. but then indictment time comes along and the G swoops in and DEA is sitting infront of the camera circle jerking eachother. The only guys from a federal agency I have liked are the guys from ATF. Good guys, down with the program and usually work well with us... DEA and FBI, a bunch of know it all jokes who couldn't do a damn thing in this city without CPD.

Ahhhhhhh!

Ahhhh-Hahahahahaaaa!

Eric Holder has GOT to be screaming and shitting on himself!

First a gun-walking scandal?

Now a weed-walking scandal?

A federal LEO killed as a result of incompetence at the top?

A civilian (but likely not an innocent) killed and the usual Fed witholding of pertinent and possibly life saving information from the "supporting cast" local LEOs who likely dropped shots at each other in the confusion?

Egads! Gadzooks and WTF? Who's in charge of the fucked-up one car clown funeral that is feeb law enforcement?

A flaming Cadillac "station-wagon" gone over a cliff Thelma & Louise style with everybody hanging out the windows screaming and crying... Even the guy in the box in the back is having his doubts now...

And this is the "new model" of Policing that we "out of control" locals are being forced to adhere to?

Aye... A tip of the Sillitoe Tartan to Mr. Henry Bowman for being the voice of common sense, reason and self preservation...

Never. Never Ever. Never Never Ever... Trust a FED!

Same holds true for shameless, pandering, no character having know it all boss-holes from New Yuck...

Jayzus! Why didn't these succession of over-comped goofs pick another place to show how they're going to re-invent (fuck-up beyond salvaging) Policing besides Chicago?

We have ENOUGH home-grown crazy to contend with as it is...

Air Marshals ,who don't do shit, but make a shit-load of money This is the best job for young people who want to carry Gun, Handcuffs and other Police tools ,but in 12 yrs at the Airport(CPD) have never saw them make an arrest.

Dea is a great at what they do!!! Unformately every now and then shit goes wrong like in this case. I was CPD for a long time and since went to DEA. I must say that of you want to be the police, but want to be a federal agent the DEA is the way to go. For the airport cop that stated that the feds don't do shit you should look at yourself. As I can recall the airport detail was for the lazy dog ass cops, who don't wanna be the police. I must say that I do enjoy my job I still miss being CPD. When its all said and done regardless of where the dept is today you are on the front lines of Chicago. I envy the great job that Chicago Police do day in and day out. When I come into town to visit I love to see the marked units race to the scene of a crime. One thing that I learned about when I was aith CPD is that people always talk and those who talk are the ones that don't do any work. Stay safe boys and girls.

are you seriously faulting the DEA because some perps shot at them? getting ripped during a reverse is always a very real, and very dangerous possibility, and there is no way to truly ensure it does not happen ... if the buyer wants to come armed, he's not getting frisked or walking through a metal detector, so you're not going to be able to stop him. That is why cops carry guns. Last time I checked though, if some jackass tries starts shooting, it's on him.

btw, NO one running a CI is ever going to tell that guy's boss that he is working with the cops; if they did, there would be NO way to EVER be sure that the boss wouldn't turn around and sell you out, open his mouth, etc. Even if the boss was working with them also, they'd never tell him the driver was a CI; CIs should not ever know the true identity of other CIs.
