Shots Fired at Police Again
And once again, Englewood:
Two people were taken into police custody after shots were fired at officers this evening on the South Side in the city’s Englewood neighborhood.
About 6 p.m., shots were fired at police near the 5900 block of South Laflin Street, authorities said.
There were no injuries reported but two people were taken into police custody. Two weapons also were recovered from the scene, authorities said.Police did not return fire, authorities said.

NEW AREA NORTH PROTOCOL FOR FILLING DISTRICT MANPOWER SHORTAGES - PO'S, DSS & FIELD SERGEANTS
Manpower shortage seems to be an issue that is affecting all districts and we appreciate each district's cooperation with accommodating other district/area requests.
Having the area responsible for filling manpower shortages for all 9 districts within Area North has become extremely time-consuming, especially when cooperation falls short.
Making districts responsible for their own manpower shortages will alleviate any confusion on their resources and hopefully improve any re-occurring issues.
Effective immediately:
• Each district will assess their needs for filling shortages and first utilize their own CAPS Sergeant, School Sergeant and Tact Sergeants. Tact Lieutenants can be utilized as the DSS on 2nd and 3rd watches to provide an additional field sergeant.
• District Commanders and XO's will monitor comp time within their districts before looking to another district. They must also assess manpower on each watch and make necessary adjustments to balance each watch. For example, certain districts are calling the area to fill POs on 1st watch every weekend. This shows a need to pull officers from 2nd and 3rd watch to balance 1st watch and/or limit comp time.
• If it is determined the district needs to look to another district for manpower, they will email their request to deputychiefnorth@chicagopolice.org for notification and approval. Once the Deputy Chief gives approval the districts will be responsible for finding their own coverage. When filling vacancies for police officers, districts may utilize officers from any district within Area North and citywide if necessary. When filling vacancies for sergeants, districts will go to their contiguous districts first. Listed below are the Area North Districts and their contiguous districts based on the boundaries prior to the district consolidations:
011 – 010, 012, 013
014 – 017, 025
015 – 025
016 – 017, 025
017 – 014, 016, 025
019 – 020
020 – 019, 024
024 – 020
025 – 014, 015, 016, 017
• If the manpower requirements have not been met, districts will utilize the remaining Area North districts. After all resources have been exhausted within Area North, districts may request out of area.

OT, I was recently at a retirement party and overheard two coppers talking about a Charity event for the Chicago Police Chaplains. Without hesitation one of the coppers said he was unable to attend he would be out of town and immediately took out his check book and wrote a check to go toward the event. It made me feel that there is hope for our department with stand up guys like that. You sir are a class act.

Good guy ... was dumped by Weis before for sticking up for his guys. Has his own crew he takes with him so he'll clean out the front office with his team. Good head on his shoulders though. Sgt. AH will probably be his new CPO sgt or a tact sgt.

I suppose expecting Mr Tomato Head to hire police officers is out of the question. He is too busy making declarations of how violating the law and signed agreements to destroy a working airport in the dark of night was the right thing to do.

People are missing the point about the Area 1 det caught playing softball on the medical. The MIU is trying to get a PO who was present to flip on the medical abuser. They haven't even stripped the detective in the mean time and questioned and threatened a guy playing on another team.

no sworn officer should be assigned to clerical work , hire civilians , officers of pension disability , let's make police officers do the job they were hired to do

Can they do that? Yes they can, even if the contract says they have to use reverse seniority. The reason why the city can shit on our contract is because when the city pushes us/officers, we don't push back. So what would you expect? Expect the city to fuck with us even more.
