Another Take on Shaved
We hadn't considered this:
- The Better Government Association (BGA) of Chicago does not know the difference between public employees and people who are on disability leave. Those on disability leave are not public employees. They are not on the city payroll or time clock. They are paid out of pension funds. They are civilians just like retirees.
That isn't a city check they are drawing, so the BGA's entire premise of "city time" or "city paycheck" is invalid? Does this hold water?

Great point! Andy Shaw is a joke. All of the north side police and detectives use to call him dirty collar Andy. His shirt collars were always dirt black. My gut tells me the BGA stepped on their dick bigtime with this. Hopefully Shaver has already retained capable counsel who will unearth every last person that orchestrated and participated in this violation of his Constitutional right. Hopefully the chain leads right back to Tiny Dancer.

Officers on disability still come under the Department's rules and regulations.
There is a form that you must sign when going on diability. It does state you must obey all rules and regulations of the police department just as if you were still on duty.
It is ridiculous and doesn't make sense, because you are allowed to move out of the city on disability, and that is a rule and regulation of the department.
Maybe someone with more knowledge of this form can embellish.

They can get complaints, be investigated etc. I knew one guy who did some stupid shit and got convicted of a felony and lost the disability as well as the regular pension. He got a refund check as he finished his prison time.

Being a retired guy, and spending time with the G on a terrorism task force a few years back, how does a private citizen get the info on a PO Box regarding the box holders info?????? The form is called a PS1583 and you need not only a postal employee but a Postal Inspector (read federal criminal investigator) to obtain the info listed on one. And a subpoena won't cover it alone. Just wondering... Anyway you all stay safe and Shaver you need to make'em pay!!

You do NOT need a doctors note. All you have to do is put in a to from to the pension board requesting to move out of the city limits and the reason why.
You must notify the pension board and department everytime you move after your request is approved. No DD officer has ever been denied a request to live outside the city limits.
This was changed sometime around 2007.

A officer on disability can get a CR#. If the CR is not closed when you retire you will not receive your retirement star. This includes any open CR's when you retire.

A friend of mine on Disability Had an allegation made by a relative and a C.R # was issued and investigation by then OPS was conducted ,so I guess you are still considered "on the Job".

The duty disabled are NOT bound by the rules and regulations of full duty sworn members. Any duty disabled former member of the department has been issued a retired star, just ask one to show it to you. Duty disabled officers are not subject to IPRA or IAD investigations, if suspected of committing a crime they are investigated as a civilian. Check on it yourself!!! Ask any detective who has worked one of these cases.
DD Officers are on LOA. They have to fill out a par form every year.
So for 25 bucks Anyone can join the BGA and hang around with Andy Shaw. If they want to get to know him better they can stay at the B&B that Andy and his wife own. Andy will wake you up and butter your biscuits!

well, i know who i'm not going to hire to rehab my two flat.
If they're paid from the pension or not,if they're scamming the system their wrong.
