Two More Shootings
Chicago police shot and wounded two people in separate overnight incidents on the city's South Side, officials said this morning.
In the latest incident, officers wounded a gunman in the 7400 block of South Wabash Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood at about 3:40 a.m., police said, citing early reports.
No officers were hurt, but the gunman was wounded and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in unknown condition, police said.
Several hours earlier, officers wounded a teenager they exchanged gunshots with in an alley in the 8900 block of South Union Avenue in the Gresham neighborhood at about 11:30 p.m. Monday, according to IPRA and the Fraternal Order of Police.
The plainclothes officers with the Area South Gun Team were patrolling West 90th Street between Union and Lowe avenues when they called out to a young male they spotted walking in the area, said FOP spokesman Pat Camden.
The young male, believed to be about 17, turned and ran away from the officers down an alley, according to Camden. The cop in the passenger seat got out of the squad car and chased the male, while his partner raced to the other end of the alley, Camden said.
During the foot chase, the pursuing officer saw the male pull a silver handgun from a back pocket and soon saw that pistol aimed at him, Camden said.
The officer identified himself and fired, wounding the teen when the young man refused to drop the weapon, Camden added.
After being wounded, the gunman began firing on the officer before the cop's partner returned fire, striking the teen several more times.

The real questions idiots like you SHOULD be asking should be ones similar to these: Why is a 15 year old in possession of a handgun (which by itself is a crime)? Why is this armed criminal not obeying a police officer's instructions? etc, etc. The question you should NOT be asking is why the officer felt he had to shoot first. Hey dummy, think of it like this: If you are the officer, and you saw someone with a gun in an alley, then he points it at you, how many times should he be allowed to shoot at you before you can shoot back?
